  1. Then Toyota switched the Corolla to FWD to save $$$$$$.
  2. I do not foresee another bailout of any company, automaker or not, anytime soon. Unifor needs to recognize that they are no longer needed and they should seek another job. As for Honda, when was the last time their sales (of any ONE vehicle) fell 25-50%? That has never happened. Their factory in Marysville OH is flexible enough so that layoffs are unnecessary. And people keep buying Hondas.
  3. If anyone thought that the high sales would last, they are wrong. Given high median and average transaction prices on new cars, sales this year could be more like 15 million rather than 17 million.
  4. Now THAT would be really SWEET. Funny too, but really sweet.
  5. I would rather build the CT6 here and export it to China.
  6. There are a LOT of KIAs out where I live. The resale value of said KIAs are in the toilet because of that cold harsh fact.
  7. Genesis needs a crossover STAT. Then again, Hyundai itself is not really growing much at all, and in some places has fallen back compared to 2017.
  8. If all the crossovers were built in the same factory, I completely agree. Problem is is that Buick has the Encore built in Korea and the Envision built in China. I get the Encore, but the Envision could be SO MUCH BETTER. The truly sad part is that GM (and Ford and FCA) are essentially justified in ditching sedans for crossovers and SUVs because sedans do not sell well anymore. Even Toyota and Honda and Nissan cannot sell sedans like they were accustomed to 10-15 years ago.
  9. Whoa. I had no idea that the Q5 is essentially carrying the whole brand these days. If there is a car marque that needs to rethink its CAR lineup, it is Audi. I am amazed that none of the other Q crossovers are increasing sales at all.
  10. WOW. Assuming those numbers are accurate, GM sedans are not selling well at all. Fewer than 700,000 sold for 2018? No wonder GM is ditching FWD sedans for FWD crossovers. It is good that the XT4 has found an audience without completely cannibalizing the XT5. Some Cadillac buyers wanted to go smaller I guess. Save the CT6. I do wonder why (given the Buick/GMC dealerships) the Envision AND the Terrain are on sale on the same lot. Same with the Enclave and the Acadia. The Buick/GMC dealerships should just sell the Enclave and the Terrain since both are the better vehicles in their respective segments.
  11. Small problem: nobody wants to listen and everybody thinks they themselves are right 100% of the time.
  12. Save the CT6, even if the flagship is nowadays the Escalade. The FWD sedans can safely die. We need the CT6 badly.
  13. So who's going to rescue that mid-60s Grand Prix out of that garage?
  14. Trading on nostalgia for a 50 y.o. fastback is NOT a sustainable business model. I highly doubt they will succeed.
  15. Which model and year is this Pontiac?
  16. Thanks for the information. I was proven wrong on that subject. That does lead me to one question: if there was no UAW (and no collective bargaining), how fast would those nonunion wages come down from their current levels?
  17. Maybe Bentley is right given current battery power density. In a decade or so, denser batteries will allow them (and all automakers) to build BEVs that are far superior to what is on the market now. Sometimes it is bets to wait for technology to catch up with your ambitions if you are not able to push it along yourself.
  18. Are you sure about that? A lot of countries take this stuff seriously to keep high-flying executives from fleeing their country while under indictment. The USA has not be as diligent when it comes to financial crimes as it has been with violent crimes.
  19. The pricing may well be nuts, but it is what the market will bear. I doubt any non-luxury sedan can get away with that pricing as of now.
  20. ICE is the past and the present. After 2030, I am not sure that ICE will be the future. ICE certainly has another good decade in it, but BEV will take over, even if it is a relatively a slow crawl to get to full BEV mainstream acceptance on the road.
  21. If within the same area as a union plant (say, a Honda plant in Ohio), a non-union plant is usually $3-5/hr cheaper than a typical UAW union plant. If there are no union plants (e.g most of the South), it is often half to two-thirds the wages of a union plant.
  22. It would be better if half the import buyers would buy GM products instead. Last 40 years have been rather painful. While I cannot blame Unifor for this publicity stunt, they would be better off getting their fellow Canadians to stop buying Japanese.
  23. Good for FCA. Now if only GM would build their own inline 6. . . . .
  24. Tata will have a lot of decisions to make in the next year or so. Will either Jaguar or Land Rover be shut down, and if so, how soon?
  25. Given that this is only one set of engines, Hyundai/KIA could simply engineer a new engine without all those issues and start again with a newer models to replace those bad ones. Two questions: who was in charge of quality control that allowed this to happen? Also, who will be held responsible for this mess inside the firm?
