DRIVEN: 2017 Cadillac XT5 Luxury 3.6 AWD (preowned vehicle review)
riviera74 replied to regfootball's topic in Reader Reviews
Essentially, the XT5 (and Cadillac more generally) needs some car guys to radically give Cadillac a real identity. -

Cadillac News: The Move to Electric Marks Cadillac's Last Stand
riviera74 replied to William Maley's topic in Cadillac
Nobody said that Cadillac should drop the V8. Cadillac should build a GREAT V8, better than anything that can be found in a Camaro or even a Corvette. -
Highest property taxes in the nation have plagued NJ for years. No wonder those who can leave the Garden State do.

Tesla laying off a few workers sounds like Great American Capitalism to me. Congrats.

Infiniti News: Infiniti's New President Admits QX30 Is A Flop
riviera74 replied to William Maley's topic in Infiniti
Never understood the appeal of the QX30. I saw one at the local Infiniti dealership and asked myself: why would anyone buy an Infiniti hatchback? Then again, the Mercedes Benz CLA is more popular here than the QX30, which is virtually the exact same hatchback. -
That is no surprise since Florida, Arizona and perhaps Texas are their destination states for retirement. I have seen people move to Florida most of my life, and all of it started back in the 1950s (before I was even born).

Wait a minute. Do we need a good V8 or a GREAT V8? Do we need a good I6 or a GREAT V6? EVs will not be mainstream for at least another 15 years, so GM needs to still make GREAT V8 and V6 engines with Great torque curves period.

I am not a fan of the new CAFE standards put in several years ago. The real issue is keeping up with the Joneses when it comes to everything, not just cars. I cannot blame the president of NADA for lamenting high new car prices. He should blame the automakers for the start of leasing cars 35 years ago in the first place. Without car leases, the race towards higher-priced vehicles slows down. There are also too many 60-72 month car notes out there too. I thought that Hyundai/KIA would actually force prices down. Instead they joined all others in their car pricing too, with slightly lower pricing. Also, cars are not falling apart like they used to 30-45 years back, so new car replacements are less likely. If it wasn't for used car pricing, car sales may end up being half of what they are. Where is the $10,000 small crossover? Where is the $8000 small sedan and/or hatchback?

Cadillac News: Cadillac CT6: I'm Not Dead Yet (For U.S.)
riviera74 replied to William Maley's topic in Cadillac
You should buy the car you like given your budget. Then again, there are a LOT of badge snobs out there who will look down at you for owning a Cadillac since they LOVE German luxury. The effect is not quite as extreme with those who love Japanese luxury cars for some reason.- 95 replies

Cadillac News: Cadillac CT6: I'm Not Dead Yet (For U.S.)
riviera74 replied to William Maley's topic in Cadillac
Our prayers MAY have been answered with respect to the CT6. Now if only GM would use the Omega platform for other vehicles as well. . . . .- 95 replies

Sounds OK. I wonder if Ford will get VW to buy up Ford of Europe so that Ford will no longer have to deal with their wobbly economics and really powerful unions.

Did KIA ever upgrade their interiors on this one? Too Many KIAs have cheap interiors in their cars and vans and crossovers.

The torque curve on the 3.6 is awful compared to the 3800 and 3900. That is the real issue. Why GM insisted on building a V6 based on those four cylinder engines from Germany is still beyond me. HP is nice, but a torque curve as flat as Kansas is what a LOT OF US want.
-
Am I the only one who wonders why the 3.6L V6 has so little torque compared to the 3800 and 3900 v6?
-
VW needs help in NA; Ford really needs help in Europe. As for the rest of the world, I am not sure who can do better with what. Good luck to both on this alliance though.

Cadillac News: Cadillac to be Center of GM's EV Push
riviera74 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Cadillac
That new EV platform is needed on the Escalade and the XT5/XT4 as soon as it is all ready. Then it can go everywhere else. Q: Are they compatible with existing Tesla superchargers, or is GM going to build its own EV infrastructure? -
Now if only GM will take Omega and build a worthy RWD competitor to both this new Explorer and the inevitable Lincoln counterpart.

What was that line: Never mistake malice for incompetence. . . . or something like that. Unfortunately, that applies everywhere, not just in Corporate America. Oldshurst has a point about other countries favoring the home team in terms of buying goods and services, whereas a lot of Americans (since the 70s) essentially said: it's all about ME and not about WE.

Nobody here wants financial companies bailed out. Ford should have paid back all that debt that Alan Mullaly raised in 2007 (or at least a LOT of it). As for allowing companies to go bust, if the Federal government allowed Chrysler to die in 1978, Ford and GM would have treated Japan inc as the invasion force they were and fought back a lot more strenuously. There is nothing inherently wrong with companies going under in a recession. Too bad a lot of government types and interest groups do not see it that way.
