I read about HCCI in Car and Driver over a decade ago. Then I read much more recently that Mazda's SkyActiv engines are all HCCI. So will GM actually DO HCCI or simply switch to full BEV by 2025?

Looks more like a 1970 burgundy Firebird to me.

Industry News: NHTSA Testing Mirrorless Cars
riviera74 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Industry News
The problem with mirrors is that somebody could just act like a vandal and break them. The advantage is that mirror replacement is cheap compared to those cameras if someone vandalizes your car. -
Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM
riviera74 replied to G. David Felt's topic in Electric Vehicles and Alternative Fuels
I had an extended warranty on my Lucerne that lasted three years. Several repairs (including a radiator leak) were fixed and I only had to pay a $100 deductible the three times the Lucerne needed a significant repair. About the GM charges for an extended warranty, good to know for my next GM vehicle. Thanks. -
Toyota News: Toyota and Suzuki Form A New Alliance
riviera74 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Toyota
What does Suzuki have that Toyota does not have in house? Seems unnecessary to me. -
Don't count on ICE dwindling and dying for at least a decade or more. Batteries need to be better and scale a lot better for ICE to no longer being king of the hill.

Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM
riviera74 replied to G. David Felt's topic in Electric Vehicles and Alternative Fuels
Sounds like the challenge should be to make a Chevy Trax EV cheaper than the ICE version. Same with Equinox and Traverse. -
Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM
riviera74 replied to G. David Felt's topic in Electric Vehicles and Alternative Fuels
That small EV plane is not enough. Call me when a Boeing 747/757/767 or its Airbus equivalent no longer needs aviation fuel. -
It also explains why Buick sales are basically geared towards China given that each Chinese Buick outsells the ones here by 4 to 1. Also, the Bolt, while nice at 259 miles, needs to have a range that ideally exceeds 400 miles, not just 300. One more thing, where is my Equinox BEV with a 350-mile range?

After about five years, an BEV school bus will pay for itself in diesel and motor oil and other maintenance savings. I would like to see municipal buses be replaced by BEVs too for the same reasons.

Need more of those chargers between Tampa and Naples for it to work down here. The vast majority of chargers in SWFL are Tesla chargers.

All of GM's new BEVs should be crossovers ONLY. No more BEV cars until further notice (or at least until sales actually improve).

It is unsurprising that truck buyers are quite loyal. The real question is what Nissan needs to do with Infiniti. Also, how does Buick and Cadillac gain Lexus-like loyalty numbers?

In our crossover-obsessed era, how many wagons such as the Volvos and this Audi actually sell these days?

The placement of the plug in the front or near the front is actually a good idea. It reduces confusion for most people, given that most ICE autos have the gas tank filler spot on the rear quarter (either left or right).

Lincoln News: Pair of EVs Spells Death For Continental
riviera74 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Lincoln
Given that Ford only has the RWD Mustang and the F-series pickups, differentiating the Continental from other FWD Fords and Lincolns would have been the right thing to do. As for the electrics in 2023, that is more than enough time to see if the Continental can recover and earn a second generation at a different Ford plant. -

Infiniti News: Infiniti Teases New Crossover Coupe
riviera74 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Infiniti
The better question is why continue Infiniti (and Nissan) in the first place. Both are not doing well.- 12 replies

How often is GM supposed to update its vehicles? Every single year? NOBODY Does that, not even Japan or Korea Inc. Cadillac has become a trim level. . . . . really? If true, then is a Yukon Denali better than an Escalade? What Cadillac does need is some significant distance between itself and GM corporate. Better engines and much better interiors exclusive to Cadillac come to mind. Cadillac does require a unique selling point to draw people away from Lexus and the Germans period.

Fine choice, but not everyone wants a Hemi in their next car. I prefer my car NOT standing out , screaming "look at me; give me a speeding ticket officer". Stealth with Hemi is much better.

Electrics will need to step up in terms of compactness and longevity, preferably sooner than later.

Infiniti News: Infiniti Teases New Crossover Coupe
riviera74 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Infiniti
The return of the Infiniti FX, gone since 2013. I hope that this is the first Infiniti with an infotainment system that belongs in 2020 not 2010. I still do not understand why anyone would want a CUV with a coupe roof.- 12 replies
