@smk4565 It was not that long ago that GM makes DID compete against each other. Prior to the Chevy Vega, GM brands were competing against each other in almost every segment of the US auto market. Then came the 71 Vega and the dreaded homologation that led to the dismantling of different characteristics for each brand. That is the biggest reason that Oldsmobile and Pontiac (as well as Saab and Saturn) have died.

Nissan News: Rumorpile: Nissan Giving Up On Vans
riviera74 replied to William Maley's topic in Nissan
First of all, why would anyone build a VAN based on a pickup truck NOW? This is not 1980 or 1990. I am glad Nissan failed in this market. GM/Ford should build these vans based on a crossover platform, NOT a truck platform. These vans (especially as taxis) should be made for passengers, not concrete and other construction cargo.- 9 replies

Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM
riviera74 replied to G. David Felt's topic in Electric Vehicles and Alternative Fuels
Kinda sad that they are willing to ditch the V8. I Hope that GM/Ford/FCA does not make the same error, especially when it comes to trucks. . . . at least until BEVs can really carry the load of a typical full-size pickup. -

EV vans will work wonders for reducing smog in our cities, especially Los Angeles and the East Coast cities.- 16 replies

Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM

Seriously, it would be better to restore a true classic, like the Invicta project elsewhere in these forums. I doubt any Germans would restore a 40-50 year-old Mercedes Benz. -

Looks interesting. Would rather have a 2030 version of a GM BEV but OK. -
Nissan/Infiniti infotainment looks like it belongs in 2012. I am unsurprised that Nissan would essentially neglect their Frontier when better options abound (especially Colorado/Canyon).

Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM

The Cimarron (1982-88) destroyed Cadillac's image in ways nothing else did. Cadillac needed nothing smaller than the Seville period. Pontiac's problem was FWD generally. How do you build excitement out of a W-body Grand Prix and an A-body Grand Am? and a FWD G-body Bonneville? BORING! As for Porsche, they may have too many CUVs, but the 911 is still being built. Porsche does need to lighten up the Panamera and the CUVs to bring them more in line with their original 911. -

It's either that or go under. Everyone is selling CUVs for that reason. -
This is what concerns me. How is taking care of a turbocharged GAS engine different from a NA GAS engine?
-
If I were to buy a crossover, should I get one with a turbo 4cyl (e.g. Equinox, Terrain) or get a V6 (Cadillac XT5)? I have heard that turbocharged engines have some issues with lasting a long period of time. Maybe I am wrong about this.

Stick with the fuel system cleaner. Much cheaper and more effective. I recommend Lucas fuel system cleaner. https://lucasoil.com/products/fuel-treatments/lucas-fuel-treatment

Gas rose here by about a dime from yesterday down here.

Cadillac hearses and Lincoln limousines. Been that way since at least the 1950s. This might clear up a few things about German cars in general. . . . or not: https://www.insidehook.com/article/vehicles/field-guide-most-popular-yuppie-car

Or they can read it here: https://www.thedetroitbureau.com/2020/05/toyota-goes-all-hybrid-with-new-venza-sienna-models/

What piqued my interest is who is NOT on this list: no FIAT/Chrysler product, no Nissan/Infiniti product, no Mazda or Hyundai/KIA product. Oh, and no German Anything either. Also, mostly BOF SUV/pickup trucks with relatively few cars/minivans and almost NO CUVs.

Genesis News: 2021 Genesis G80 Packs New Styling, Two Turbo Engines

Welcome OCN2. Also, the GV80 I hope will be the first Genesis CUV since they need more than just ONE CUV these days. -

Yes, common and luxury cars are dying off because it seems almost everyone wants a CUV/SUV. As for the Acura RLX, why would anyone buy an somewhat upgraded Accord for $15K extra? At least Acura is wise to focus on the RDX and MDX. Although to be honest the MDX could use a serious upgrade since it dates from 2014. -
Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM
riviera74 replied to G. David Felt's topic in Electric Vehicles and Alternative Fuels
Right now gas is cheap. Not 1998 cheap, but still cheap compared to the last 15 years or so. The reason CA went for hybrids and BEVs faster than anyone is because gas is so expensive there. At $8/gal, CA would go full BEV in less than two years. The rest of the USA, not that quickly. Before COVID-19, gas in CA was around $4/gal, so hybrids and BEVs were already somewhat commonplace. BEVs will make their impact one day, just not right now or anytime soon. -
A relatively CHEAP 4Runner these days. Starting MSRP is just over $36K.

Genesis News: 2021 Genesis G80 Packs New Styling, Two Turbo Engines
riviera74 replied to William Maley's topic in Genesis
Perhaps, but Genesis needs a GV70 to compete in the compact luxury CUV market, where the Lexus RX reigns supreme (for now). I am fairly sure that the MDX will get a necessary upgrade soon. The Lexus GX has a Land Cruiser problem (both have been around for a decade with few updates). The XT6 just came out a year ago. The Infiniti QX80 has a Pathfinder problem in that nobody is buying either of them. -
Esso essentially WAS Standard Oil of New Jersey, which became Exxon in 1972. Not sure when Standard Oil of New York became Mobil though.
