Here’s how the Dodge Ram struggled to compete with Ford and Chevy
riviera74 replied to NINETY EIGHT REGENCY's topic in Ram
Good video as always. Pickup trucks seem to have the most brand loyalty of all passenger vehicles, but for a time the 1994+ Ram was the trendiest pickup around. -
Thank you very much, trinacriabob.

I understand, but for me to avoid those ads, I paid the membership fee so that I do not have to deal with them. $15 a year is quite a bargain.

Why should FORD worry about EV sales if the sales are flat? What if European buyers prefer ICE engines, or would rather buy EVs from VW/MB/BMW/PSA? I fail to see why Dearborn should worry so much about EV sales there.

Poll: Did you pass your driver test the first time?
riviera74 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in The Lounge
Passing the written test was easy. The driving test was somewhat harder, but that was because the monitor insisted that 30mph really should be 25mph because he could not really see the odometer very well. That took a few days, but I did pass that test. -
Fair point about CEO compensation.

Apparently the strikes called by the UAW are over. The UAW got their large pound of flesh from the Detroit Three, given the new leadership that called the series of strikes. Makes you wonder what would happen if there was no UAW getting in the way of almost everything.

Good luck finding that anywhere in NA. You either get mild winters and brutal summers OR you get the reverse.

EV sales are only 2% of all NEW auto sales. They barely exist in the used car market. Here is what I wonder: if EVs are the next big thing, why can't I buy a new one for about $20K? Until that is addressed, then "the EV is the next big thing" is little more than a pipe dream, regardless of government regulations.

Do those credits and/or rebates apply when you lease an EV, buy an EV, or both?

Chevrolet News:Ultium Bolt Announced by Chevrolet
riviera74 replied to G. David Felt's topic in Chevrolet
It will take somewhat lower prices in order to get a lot more people to switch from ICE to EVs. If people are paying the same ATPs on EVs as ICE equivalents, they will stick with ICE. -
GMC News: GMC Upsizes the Acadia for 2024; New 2.5L Turbo-4
riviera74 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in GMC Trucks
The smaller GMC Acadia should be a separate model along with the newer (larger) Acadia AND larger then the current Terrain. New name, of course. I suspect that a lot of people would like the choice of three differently sized crossovers. No need to do that with the Yukon and Yukon XL SUVs.- 29 replies

The problem with full recharge speed is that it will reduce the number of charge cycles on those batteries. Once that happens, eventually battery replacement is required. While it is highly inconvenient for anyone to wait a few minutes longer to charge their EV, said customer should want their EV batteries to last as long as possible rather than having to pay for an expensive replacement.

GMC News: GMC Upsizes the Acadia for 2024; New 2.5L Turbo-4
riviera74 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in GMC Trucks
A 2.5L 4cylinder is the standard engine? Are they taking notes from Mazda? Mazda has been doing that in their SkyActiv engines (virtually all models) for the past several years now.- 29 replies

Are we spoiled in the USA and Canada? yes. When will I see a midsize car at about $25K, anytime soon? never, apparently. Will we ever dump the two-box SUV/crossover for sedans again? hard to tell. right now, I doubt it. ?
-
That's nice. Call me when their EVs are priced below $25K fully equipped. If Henry Ford can make an affordable car into a world beater a century ago, then his namesake company can do the same now.

Toyota News: Century for the Next Century, Toyota Launches Century SUV
riviera74 replied to G. David Felt's topic in Toyota
I am glad the Century sedan has not been replaced. Who misses the V12?! I also did not know that the TNGA platform was FWD and RWD and AWD. -
Still a BOF car. A unibody car would have collapsed under all that weight.

The upload speeds you are getting from Ziply is very impressive. Newer equipment (especially replacing anything older than three years old) always impresses with better speed, lower latency and higher throughput.

1998 Olds Intrigue GL. The LaCrosse was a 2005 base model (i.e. the CX). That LaCrosse had the GM black tie interior, which was miles better than the previous one, which occupied the Intrigue and its Buick cousin, the Regal/Century. I suspect that if Pontiac did survive past 2008, the black tie interior would have been included in the next GP refresh.
-
I have had both the Intrigue and the first-generation LaCrosse. I liked them both, but I do NOT miss the cheap interior of the former.

I respect the last Bonneville. It should have been RWD, like the G8 that Pontiac sold until BK. Personally, I would rather have a first-generation Aurora instead of this one. But I understand why you like this.
