  1. It took the stock market 25 years to recover to 1929 levels. The stock market was at the same level in 1981 that it was in 1966, even though prices had almost tripled.
  2. I would have thought the G8 would be gone by 2011 because of CAFE. I am planning on buying my next car by 2014, so it would be in time to get a G8, if this article is true and GM survives.
  3. Happy Birthday. I remember when you were Uncle Dave.
  4. The Detroit Free Press had an article this morning saying that GM thinks it can manage all of Chrysler brands in case of a merger. If GM keeps all of the divisions and if I were in charge, I would do the following: 1. Immediately drop the Sebring, Avenger, Durango, Aspen, Compass, and Commander. 2. Give Dodge a version of the Cruze and Chrysler a version of the upcoming LaCrosse. 3. Give Dodge the Nissan small car. 4. Give Chevrolet a version of the minivan. 5. Give Buick a version of the 300 to replace the Lucerne. 6. As quickly as possible, replace all Chrysler 4 and V6 engines with GM engines. 7. Drop the Dodge 4.7L V8. It gets no better gas mileage than the Hemi. 8. Keep the Hemi for Dodge Ram, Challenger, Charger, 300C, and Grand Cherokee.
  5. I believe this site started around 2000 or 2001, and GM wasn't "the cool thing" then, although most of us still had some hope.
  6. Can't wait to see the Pontiac rebadge of this.
  7. The new Equinox will be sufficient for those buyers.
  8. But so many on here love him. At least he is always interesting and often correct.
  9. Underestimate Palin at your own risk, former rivals say http://www.latimes.com/news/la-na-palindeb...?track=ntothtml
  10. What technology could raise the fuel economy of a V8 Camaro by roughtly 30 percent? I don't know of any car with a V8 anywhere that gets EPA 20 mpg in the city. It's not enough for the car to get over 30 on the highway; it's got to do much better with city mpg.
  11. The Camaro will need to get substantially over 30 mpg, since trucks will be averaged in the 35 mpg CAFE. I don't see how GM can offer V8's in any cars other than the Corvette and maybe the CTS-V. I don't even see how GM can offer V6's in anything other than Cadillacs to meet 35 mpg CAFE.
  12. Maureen Dowd had a good column a few weeks ago called "My Fair Veep." Sarah Palin even looks a little like Audrey Hepburn did in My Fair Lady.
  13. Just keep the Escalade as it is now, but make all of them have either the hybrid V8 or the 4.5L diesel.
  14. I think the base would still have supported McCain-Ridge, and Ridge is intelligent and experienced. As one co-worker told me a few weeks ago, "There are enough rednecks like me who will vote agains a black man whose middle name is Hussein."
  15. http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_...u-dont-say.html Personally I don't want to see anyone humiliated. But people should know their limitations, and Sarah Palin doesn't. She should have had the sense to accept the nomination for V-P because she doesn't know enough.
  16. I remember the days when GM sold 200,000 Devilles a year. I love the car, but this is a declining niche.
  17. I read on Andrew Sullivan's blog that Palin is doing horribly in the debate preparation and is clueless. McCain should have picked either Tom Ridge or even his friend Joe Lieberman. I don't think Romney or Pawlenty would be much better than Palin.
  18. The downsized 1977 B bodies were a smash hit.
  19. It's too bad people with money don't buy very many of these things anymore.
  20. If Buick is going to have 2 Epsilon II sedans, then I wonder if Pontiac will get one at all. Do BPG dealers need 3 Epsilon sedans? This is why I can see the G3, G5, and Vibe being the only Pontiacs in about 3 years.
  21. That's right.
  22. This will probably be the premium Buick sedan of the future. I would expect the Lucerne will become more of a fleet car like the Grand Marquis until it fades away.

    McCain's trend

I am voting for Obama for the first four reasons.
  24. I read the book and still have it. I also highly recommend reading John Z DeLorean's "On a Clear Day You Can See General Motors." Many of GM's problems date back to decisions made in the 1960's.
  25. I think you fellows need to resign yourself to Pontiac's future being small cars like the G3, G5, and Vibe. Otherwise, you will be constantly frustrated. When the G8 and Solstice run their course, I think Pontiac's peformance history will be dead.
