  1. Cars built in Canada are considered part of the domestic fleet for CAFE purposes, so CAFE won't be a reason whether or not to build the car in Canada. If for some crazy reason the Camaro were to be produced in Australia, then it would be part of the foreign fleet for CAFE purposes.
  2. If the Camaro shares its architecture and many components with a high volume sedan or two and is built at the same plant, then I do not believe that a V6 version will be necessary for volume. The Mustang does not share its platform with any other Ford, and the platform is not flexible enough for a sedan version. Therefore, the V6 Mustang is necessary for volume. But if the Camaro shares its platform with the next generation Impala or a new Caprice (if the Impala goes to the LWB Epsilon II) and a companion Pontiac or Buick sedan, then I don't think that a V6 Camaro would be necessary. It may be desirable, but not necessary. I do think that a V8 Camaro would be priced about the same as a V8 Mustang, not the GTO.
  3. Some knowledgeable people at the Camaro Z28 boards say that there is a good chance that Wilmington will eventually be closed and production of the Kappa could be moved the Bowling Green, KY Corvette plant. This makes sense since some say that the Corvette and Kappa platforms are very similar and both are low volume platforms.
  4. If the same RWD platform used for the Camaro is also used for RWD sedans to replace the W and G bodies, then those sedans could use mostly V6 and some V8 engines and the Camaro could be strictly a V8 competitor for the Mustang GT and upcoming Shelby Mustang SVT. I don't think that GM is going to design a platform just for the Camaro as Ford did for the Mustang.
  5. Even though the fellows at the Camaro Z28 board are interesting and know a lot of things, I trust Evok over any of them. If the Camaro does return, I think it will be part of a program that will also result in some RWD sedans about the size of Chrysler's LX cars. I don't think that GM will design a platform just for a Camaro as Ford did for the Mustang. The Camaro is not the iconic car for Chevrolet that the Mustang is for Ford and probably would not achieve the same amount of sales, in my opinion. When was the last year that the Camaro outsold the Mustang?
  6. If built, I think Ontario. The rear wheel drive platform used for a Camaro would also probably be used for new sedans that will replace some of the W body family.
  7. The Ridgeline is not my cup of tea, but it is probably doing what Honda wants it to do.
  8. Kappa is not flexible enough for a sedan and coupe. GM's financial condition is too weak to develop a brand new small RWD platform.
  9. That's my personal motto.
  10. Some speculate that the new Australian Zeta Commodore may be exported here as a new large Pontiac. Otherwise, maybe the next generation Pontiac Vibe.
  11. I don't have pictures, but I do believe that this mediocre car is one major factor in the death of Oldsmobile. Had the car sold half as well as the previous RWD Cutlass Supreme, Oldsmobile would still be alive today. Last year's engines were 3.1L OHV and 3.4L DOHC V6's.
  12. Or most people are just going to have to plan on working all but the last couple years of their lives.
  13. You keep repeating yourself. What point are you trying to make? GM and Ford can't afford to pay the UAW the wages and benefits agreed in the last contract. Just what do you want GM and Ford to do?
  14. That show definitely must be scripted. I cannot see how that is a reality show.
  15. GM has no money to do most of that.
  16. My main concern with the direction of the American economy is the outrageous federal budget deficit. I want to see government spending slashed, especially entitlement spending. Some taxes should be raised. I am very pleased and thankful for my wages. I pay about 30 percent of my health insurance premium, far more than the UAW workers pay, and I have no complaints. My problems have nothing to do with the UAW, but are mostly related to my own weaknesses.
  17. I just find it interesting to see how young people in California behave compared to the people where I live.
  18. Why should he talk? Most of the union plants are in blue states. These aren't his voters. Many of the transplants are in red states - those are his voters. You fellows in the upper midwest don't understand how much folks in the South - even working class people - hate unions.
  19. I am way too old, but sometimes I enjoy "Date My Mom" and "Room Raiders." Also, I like "Wonder Showzen" and "The Andy Milonakis Show."
  20. I consider Honda to be sportier than Toyota because a higher percentage of Hondas are sold with manual transmissions that with Toyota. Dodge is a macho brand with the Hemi, and I don't consider Mazda to be a competitor with Dodge. I do see VW as a natural competitor for Mazda and Honda.
  21. I don't have any first hand knowledge, but I have read speculation that one division - maybe Pontiac - may import a version of the Australian Zeta and sell it here. This could be the Pontiac G8. The speculation is that a separate North American built Zeta - actually a cheap version of Sigma - will be used for a new Camaro and Chevrolet sedan.

    GMC Envoy?

I hope the XL stays, even though it is almost as large and heavy as a Yukon. I like the looks of the LWB GMT360's.
  23. I have never understood why the Focus wagon does not sell better. It is probably my favorite small car, and I would love it with a turbo diesel.
  24. If I had my way, the Impala would be offered in two models - the 3.5 LS and the 5.3 SS. Nothing else. The Impala with the 3.9 is only .6 seconds faster to 60 than the 3.5 and is only 1 mpg more fuel efficient than the SS. I don't see the point of the 3.9, even though most of you will disagree. People needing a little more luxury than the LS and don't want the performance of an SS can buy a Buick.
  25. Ion - Civic/Mazda3/Jetta or Golf Aura - Accord/Mazda6/lower end Passats (Aura uses Epsilon platform, and if Olds had survived, the Alero replacement would have used Epsilon) Vue - CR-V/Tribute Outlook - Pilot/lower end Touareg Relay - Odyssey Sky - S2000/Miata To my mind, there are many more parallels between Saturn and Honda, Mazda, and VW - especially Honda - than between Saturn and Oldsmobile. The Aura is closer in size to the Alero than the Intrigue. Had Saturn gotten big sedans on the W and G bodies and a SUV on GMT 360, then I would agree that Saturn replaced Oldsmobile.
