  1. Back in the 1970's, I enjoyed Road Test magazine. I still have a few copies around. One thing I liked is that it posted car sales every month. Back then, the only alternative to getting the figures was subscribing to Automotive News.
  2. GM could compete with just Chevrolet (cars, trucks, and SUV's) and Cadillac (cars and SUV's). I don't want this to happen because there have been many great Pontiacs and Buicks in the past and I think that the Solstice and Enclave are impressive (although not my kind of vehicles). All both need are some great Zeta platform cars. But I think that the odds are 50-50 that GM could be down to Chevrolet and Cadillac in 10 or 15 years.
  3. You are consistently too harsh on GM considering its current precarious financial situation. If GM could afford to give Pontiac all unique vehicles, it would do so. If a Cobalt clone helps the Pontiac dealers out a little bit until GM can afford to give Pontiac more unique vehicles, what's the big deal?
  4. Except Toyota hasn't made any big mistakes yet, like GM did in the 80's (X body, V8-6-4, HT4100, diesels, etc.)
  5. Cars produced after 1964 still look modern to me, so I don't mind 1960's retro styling like the Mustang and Challenger. Cars earlier than the mid 1960's look baroque to me, so I don't care for vehicles like the PT Cruiser, SSR, or HHR.
  6. One problem with the monthly magazines is that they all test the same cars every month - usually high priced Japanese and European sports and luxury cars. There's not much reason to pick one over another. They all seem to target readers that own three or more cars and have household incomes over $200,000. The message boards like this and Automotive News are my main sources of information, even though I still subscribe to three of the monthly magazines.
  7. I share Flint's concerns about more pony cars. The 2005 Mustang really does not sell much better than the Mustang did when it was restyled for 1994 and 1999. The Mustang did well for 2005, but sales will probably gradually drop over the next few years, as is normal for sports coupes. I don't think that there is a big market for a new Camaro and Challenger, even though I am the only person here who feels this way. I don't think that this is a growing market. At least the Challenger is about the same size and shares most of its components with the 300. For the Camaro to succeed, it must share many components with high volume sedans. Hopefully the Camaro could sell 150,000 per year, but it needs to be profitable if sales were only 60,000 per year.

  9. The 2.7 is not a Chryslerbishi motor; it is a Chrysler exclusive. The Sebring and Stratus coupes use the Mitsubishi 3.0L V6, while the Sebring sedan and convertible and Stratus sedan use the Chrysler 2.7.

  12. Not really, but even if it were, too many people in this country refuse to go anywhere near a GM dealership. The O.C. has explained why in many of his posts. That is one reason (the legacy costs are the other) why I don't think anyone can solve GM's current problems.
  13. There should be a fifth option in the poll - None of the above. I don't think anyone can solve the current problems of GM (or Ford).

  16. I have only purchased cars with V8's. I was given a car with a 4 cylinder and inherited a car with a V6. I kept neither one over 4 years. I would only buy a 4 cylinder or V6 if I could not afford a car with a V8. I'm not really interested in owning a truck or SUV.

  21. If we took a poll, I would think most people here want the Impala to be a RWD 300/Charger competitor with V8 options.

  23. Wouldn't it be nice to see a Lincoln sedan with that supercharged 5.4L V8 from the Shelby Mustang? I don't think that engine would fit in the MKS, but it would fit in a Chrysler LX/Cadillac Sigma type platform if Ford could afford to develop one. That Volvo 4.4 just doesn't excite me very much. The MKS is OK, but it's just Ford's competitor for the upper level Lucernes.
  24. The fact that GM is spending $24 million per day than it is taking in. If that doesn't start to reverse very soon, it is not a fact that GM will be around in 2009.You are the most argumentative person here at C&G. I wish you would just ignore my posts.
  25. After Lutz's comments against cutting executive compensation, in a way, you can't blame the union for being unwilling to compromise. Some sacrifice by executives could generate goodwill from the union.
