I don't think that there is a large enough market for a small RWD sedan/coupe platform for the prices that could be charged for a Pontiac (probably $20,000 to $28,000), considering the billions it would cost to develop. Such a platform would be more complex than the Kappa. GM would probably not generate the prices nor the worldwide volume that BMW, Mercedes, and Toyota get out of their small RWD platforms, even if shared with Cadillac and/or Holden. I prefer to keep the G6 FWD, keep the Vibe, have the Solstice, and replace the Grand Prix and GTO with a SWB Zeta built in North America. The G6 and its predecessor have been core models for Pontiac for over 20 years, and dropping it would be risky.
  2. I prefer the Impala LS to any of your choices, but I prefer the LaCrosse to the Grand Prix because I think the interior is much nicer.
  3. I just wonder if the 3800 will continue in production until late 2010, when the next generation RWD Lucerne reportedly debuts.

    If the RWD Lucerne debuts in October, 2010, then that means the current FWD version will have had a life of 5 years.
  5. Chevrolet needs nothing more than the Camaro. The Camaro will surely be no more than 12 inches shorter than the Impala sedan will be. Compared to 1970, the big sedans are much smaller, and the ponycars are the same size or slightly bigger. There's no need for both the Camaro and a slightly longer Chevelle and Monte Carlo.

    Believe them both. AH-HA says the article is wrong, and the information Evok provided is contrary to the article. I can't recall the two of them ever contradicting each other.

  9. Absolutely. Cadillac needs a strong entry in the $45,000 to $60,000 sedan market. It isn't ready for the $70,000 to $100,000 market.

    I only check it to read Hudson's posts and to look for links to articles that have not been posted here yet. AH-HA has posted there about two or three times over the last month or two. The posts here at C&G are usually much more intelligent, in my opinion.

    Because some will prefer dealing with Saturn dealers.I don't have a problem if the Malibu is just an Aura with a Chevrolet grill and tail. Prior to the 1988 W bodies, most GM cars did share styling among divisions, with different interiors, grills, rear ends, and engines. Since 1988, GM has worked hard to differentiate the styling of its cars among divisions, but sales decreased, not increase. So why spend the money giving cars substantially different styling?
  16. I'd rather call the vehicle STS and STS-L than DTS and DTS-L, but Cadillac needs this vehicle to be a success before it's ready for a S class/7 series competitor. The reviews of the current STS have all been disappointing.
  17. I seriously doubt that Buick's RWD flagship will debut before 2010 to 2012, and it will probably be the next generation Lucerne.

  20. Did anyone notice that the article stated that Pontiac will not abandon FWD? Isn't the Buick Excelle basically the same thing as the Suzuki Forenza? I wouldn't want that sold in the U.S. But I would like to see the return of the Riviera and (I am sure I am alone here) the return of the Estate Wagon, a traditional station wagon for those who don't want an SUV or crossover.

    Having the 2008 Malibu be an Aura with a Chevy grille and tailend doesn't bother me at all. Ever since the 1988 W body coupes, GM has tried hard to differentiate its vehicles, only to see sales continue to drop. I prefer a good looking Malibu with a lot in common with the Aura to the boring dud they sell now.

  23. The Chi program has long been dead. The Epsilon will be GM's largest FWD car platform within 4 years. I don't think Buick has sold 300,000 of a particular model for over 20 years.

  25. GM badly needs a handful of small cars, besides the Vibe, that get over 30 mpg in the city and over 40 on the highway.
