It was thought for a time that Volvo's first electric vehicle would be a compact hatchback that took some design ideas from the Concept 40.2. Then we heard that the XC40 would be the first electric vehicle. Now we have gotten some clarification. “It’s not a secret any more that the first full electric Volvo is on its way with the XC40 coming. It will arrive very soon after the Polestar 2. That is the first to come that’s not exotic. We’ll start with XC40 and then on it will come step after step into our model range. The next car will be the next-generation XC90," said Volvo design chief Thomas Ingenlath. The Polestar 2, a midsize sedan is expected to go into production in 2019. That puts the launch of the XC40 EV sometime in 2020 or so. Ingenlath said Volvo would only produce electric versions of the current lineup, not build out new models like other automakers. Polestar will handle build electric models that stand out. "To look at new formats, new bodystyles and non-traditional elements, we founded Polestar to take care of that end of the scope. We developed that strategy: full electrification of the Volvo range, making it a natural part of the offer, and at the same time developing new, unconventional elements in the Polestar brand." Bentley tends to build even faster versions of their models which are denoted by the Speed nameplate. The Bentayga SUV is no exception to this. Bentley design boss Stefan Sielaff confirmed to Autocar this week that the luxury automaker is working on a Bentayga Speed. The model will get “typical” styling changes Bentley makes when creating Speed versions - revised front end, wider fenders, rear diffuser, and wheels. Autocar reports that more power is expected for the W12 engine. The current engine produces 600 horsepower, so 650 to 700 horsepower isn't out of the question. No time frame was given as to when the Bentayga Speed would appear. We're guessing 2020 at the earliest. Source: Autocar View full article

Chevrolet News:Chevrolet Brings Back the Blazer As A Crossover
William Maley replied to William Maley's topic in Chevrolet
I think option #3 is the most likely answer. -
Guys, the Blazer is coming back! Hooray! Its going to be a crossover that slots between the Equinox and Traverse. *Blank looks from the crowd* I'm sure there are some that were hoping that the Blazer nameplate would return on something similar to body-on-frame Trailblazer/Blazer sold in various parts of the world. But if you have been keeping a close eye on Cheers & Gears for the past year or so, then you would know Chevrolet has been working on a crossover to fill in the white space between the Equinox and Traverse possibly named Blazer. Tonight in Atlanta, Chevrolet pulled the curtain back on their new midsize crossover. The Blazer looks to be a mashup of Camaro and the Nissan Murano crossover. There is a large grille, slim HID headlights, a rising window line that leads to a blacked-out d-pillar, and a sharply raked tailgate. Like the Traverse, the Blazer will have a RS model complete with blacked-out trim and 20-inch wheels. We find the Blazer RS to be a bit too much. Inside, Chevrolet's designers appeared to have lifted the dash from the Camaro and dropped it in the Blazer. While stylish and driver-centric, it does also introduce some usability issues - see the small and crowded row of buttons for the climate control system as an example. The Blazer will debut Chevrolet's first Cargo Management System that uses rail system and cargo fence to split up the cargo area help secure cargo. All Blazers will get an 8-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, wireless charging, six USB ports, and 4G LTE connectivity. Powertrains mirrors what you'll find on the GMC Acadia. This means a 2.5L four-cylinder with 193 horsepower and 188 pound-feet of torque, and a optional 3.6L V6 offering up 305 hp and 269 pound-feet. Both engines come with a stop-start system and a nine-speed automatic. Standard on all models is Traction Select that allows the driver to make adjustments to the vehicle's driving mode to account for different conditions. On all-wheel drive models, Traction Select can disconnect the rear axle when AWD capability is not needed. RS and Premier get a more sophisticated twin-clutch AWD system. Chevrolet says the Blazer will arrive at dealers in early 2019. Source: Chevrolet Bold Design Defines 2019 Chevrolet Blazer Attention-grabbing midsize SUV offers style and versatility ATLANTA — Chevrolet is raising the bar on crossover design with the introduction of the 2019 Blazer as the newest member of the industry’s broadest, freshest crossover and SUV lineup since 2015. The all-new contemporary midsize SUV is rooted in attention-grabbing design with seamlessly integrated customer-focused technologies and superb functionality. “Chevrolet has been at the forefront of each of the major automotive industry trends by anticipating consumer demand and delivering innovative products like Bolt EV, Colorado and Trax,” said Alan Batey, president of GM North America and head of Global Chevrolet. “The introduction of the all-new Blazer builds on that momentum and further strengthens the most comprehensive lineup of crossovers and SUVs on the market today.” Slotting between the Equinox and Traverse, the 2019 Blazer will offer unique design elements on each model, appealing to customers seeking distinctive styling and outstanding utility. Highlights include: Bold styling that features a strong grille and muscular proportions. Driver-centric interior and distinctive looks on all models. Model range includes sporty RS and up-level Premier models. Five-passenger seating with up to 64.2 cubic feet (1,818 L) of max cargo space with second-row seats folded flat. Adjustable sliding rear seat. Available Chevy-first cargo management system with a rail system and cargo fence. Available panoramic dual-pane power sunroof. Suite of available active safety features. Standard 2.5L I-4 and available 3.6L V-6 engines, each backed by a nine-speed automatic transmission. Advanced twin-clutch AWD system available. 4,500 pounds (2,041 kg) estimated max trailering with the available 3.6L V-61. Available Hitch View feature that helps the driver align the hitch with the trailer. An SUV With Attitude The 2019 Blazer is the boldest, most progressive expression of the Chevrolet crossover design theme. A wide stance, tight proportions, a high beltline and dramatic sculpting give it a toned, athletic appearance from all angles. “The Blazer has attitude,” said John Cafaro, executive director, Global Chevrolet Design. “It looks commanding on the road, while fulfilling the promise of versatility at the heart of every Chevy crossover and SUV.” Each model in the lineup offers a unique look with distinct styling to suit different customers’ tastes, including unique grille appearances, additional bright chrome on the Premier trim and a more sinister-looking, blacked-out appearance for the Blazer RS. A powerful front end featuring a strong grille, athletic hood lines and low-placed HID headlamps distinguishes all models. The design also features a distinctive lighting execution that separates the headlamps and LED daytime running lamps. Long, lean and sculpted body sides lead to a rear end highlighted by LED-illuminated Chevy-signature dual-element taillamps, dual exhaust outlets and an integrated tailgate spoiler. The Blazer also offers a range of stylish wheels, starting with standard 18-inch aluminum rims and expanding to available 21-inch wheels on the RS and Premier. The Blazer’s cabin echoes the bold exterior theme with sporty good looks. The design emphasizes space, craftsmanship and customer personalization, with a wide range of interior styling choices for the different models, achieved through several color and trim choices. Sporty details include a padded knee area, round air vents and grab handles on the doors. The new Blazer also offers a Chevrolet-first Cargo Management System, standard on RS and Premier models. It features a rail system and cargo fence to help secure smaller items by dividing the cargo area. Seamless Technology and Connectivity The 2019 Blazer is designed to offer occupants seamless connectivity, intuitive controls and a host of convenience features that help make the drive more comfortable. Features include: Hitch Guidance — Available on models with the 3.6L engine, it aids in aligning the Blazer’s hitch to a trailer by showing the center line on the rear-vision camera. Hitch View — This available feature complements Hitch Guidance by showing a top-down view, making it easier to hitch a trailer without a second person to assist. Electronic-locking glove box — A Chevy first, it offers added storage security, and is roomy enough to fit a small handbag. The glove box is locked with the vehicle’s Valet Mode, which is accessible through the Settings menu. Automatic heated steering wheel and automatic heated/ventilated front seats — These available features work with Remote Start and/or automatic climate control to automatically adjust temperature to help maintain comfort. Comfort-open windows — Activated by the key fob, this feature allows all windows to roll down to help heat escape before occupants enter the vehicle. Heated outboard rear seats are available on RS and standard on Premier. Adaptive Cruise Control and Rear Camera Mirror are available on RS and Premier2. Hands-free power liftgate with Bowtie logo projection is standard on RS and Premier. Wireless charging and six USB ports are available. When it comes to connectivity, an 8-inch-diagonal color touchscreen running Chevrolet Infotainment 3 is standard, along with 4G LTE Wi-Fi (with 1-month/3GB data trial)3 and Apple CarPlay4 and Android Auto5 compatibility. Performance and Capability The new Blazer is powered by a standard 2.5L I-4 engine rated at 193 hp (143 kW) and 188 lb-ft of torque (255 Nm). A 3.6L V-6 is also available, offering 305 hp (227 kW) and 269 lb-ft of torque (365 Nm). Both direct-injected engines feature intelligent stop/start technology that seamlessly shuts off the engine when power is not needed, based on a variety of driving factors, and both are paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. “The Chevrolet Blazer is more than just good looks,” said Waqar Hashim, Blazer chief engineer. “Both the Ecotec® 2.5L four-cylinder engine and 3.6L V-6 engine are paired to Chevrolet’s nine-speed automatic transmission, providing drivers a great balance between performance and efficiency.” Traction Select is standard on all models and allows the driver to make real-time adjustments to the vehicle’s driving mode to account for varying road conditions. On AWD models, it also allows the system to be completely disconnected from the rear axle, meaning drivers can opt to have their vehicle operate in FWD when AWD capability is not necessary. RS and Premier models offer a more sophisticated twin-clutch AWD technology that helps optimize traction for every condition. It provides excellent performance in wet, snowy and icy conditions, while also providing enhanced stability in dry weather. Available Early 2019 The Chevrolet Blazer will arrive at U.S. dealerships in early 2019. Additional details and pricing will be announced closer to the start of production. View full article

When we drove the Mazda CX-5 towards the end of last year, we found ourselves wishing that either the long-delayed turbodiesel or possibly the 2.5: turbo-four from the CX-9 would grace the engine. The 2.5L four-cylinder does ok around town, but really struggles when more speed is needed. It seems our wish could be coming true. The Truth About Cars obtained a certification document from the California Air Resources Board for the turbocharged 2.5L four-cylinder. In the document, it lists the 2019 CX-9 and CX-5 offering this engine. It would give the CX-5 a nice power boost as the turbo-four produces 227 horsepower (250 horsepower on premium fuel) and 310 pound-feet of torque. Mazda declined to comment when asked about the document. We're guessing that Mazda could debut the turbo engine in the CX-5 at the LA Auto Show in November. Source: The Truth About Cars

The project of a trade war between the U.S. and China (along with the European Union) has many automakers on edge. Some are beginning to speak out about the possible dangers it may bring. Mercedes-Benz's parent company, Diamler AG announced yesterday that its full-year earnings will be slightly lower than last year. Their reasoning comes down to consumers in China buying fewer SUVs that are imported from the U.S. Most of Mercedes-Benz SUVs are built in Alabama. “Remember, for those following from a Trump/global free trade perspective, this is now a German car maker, warning on the profits coming from their Alabama-made SUVs, which are then sold/exported into China –- a complicated situation indeed!!” wrote Evercore ISI analyst Arndt Ellinghorst. According to Bloomberg, shares in Diamler dropped 4.4 percent on this announcement. Meanwhile, Volvo Cars CEO Hakan Samuelsson said the trade war could affect plans in the U.S. Speaking at the opening of the Swedish automaker's new assembly plant in South Carolina, Samuelsson told Bloomberg that Volvo would have to limit the number of models it sells due to threat of a 25 percent tariff on imported vehicles. “I would have less models to choose from and they would cost more -- that would be the consequence. Shorter menu and higher prices -- not a very good restaurant,” said Samuelsson. The factory in South Carolina will provide a small relief for Volvo if tariffs do go into place. Small is the key word as LMC Automotive estimates 87 percent of the vehicles Volvo sells in the U.S. next year will come from other places - Sweden and China. Samuelsson also warned that the trade dispute could mess up plans to create up to 4,000 new jobs at the new plant. "If you have trade barriers and restrictions, we cannot create as many jobs as we are planning to," explained Samuelsson. "We want to export and if suddenly China and Europe have very high barriers, it would be impossible. Then you have to build the cars there. And then all cars will be more expensive, you have to invest more tooling and have every model in every country. That's against all the logic of modern economies that trade with each other." Volvo News: 2019 Volvo S60: A Swede with An American Accent
William Maley replied to William Maley's topic in Volvo
AHEM... From Volvo's press release The first-generation C70 did not have a diesel option, but the second-generation did. But like @dfelt said and I agree with, most people have a short attention span and possibly don't remember any Volvo vehicles without a diesel. -
The 2019 Volvo S60 marks a few milestones for the Swedish automaker. For one, Volvo can finally say goodbye to the final remnants of its Ford ownership. The S60 is also the first model for the brand to be built in the U.S. at a new plant in South Carolina. It will also be the first Volvo to not offer a diesel engine. At first glance, the S60 looks almost the same as the larger S90 sedan. But get a bit closer and there are some major differences. For example, the 'Thor's Hammer' daytime running lights are closer to the grille than on the S90. The bumpers are much more aggressive and the doors feature deeper stamps and creases. Compared to the outgoing S60, the new model is slightly longer. Most of that increase goes to those sitting in the backseat. The interior is the same as you'll find in the V60 and XC60, complete with the 9-inch Sensus infotainment system. Three engines will be on offer for the U.S. T5: Turbocharged 2.0L Four-Cylinder, 250 horsepower, Front-Wheel Drive T6: Twincharged 2.0L Four-Cylinder, 300 horsepower, All-Wheel Drive T8 Twin-Engine: Twincharged 2.0L Four-Cylinder with Hybrid System, 400 horsepower, All-Wheel Drive All engines will come paired with an eight-speed automatic. A T6 Twin-Engine with 340 horsepower will be available for other markets. Those wanting a bit more power only need to turn to the Polestar Engineered model that adds 15 horsepower, along with changes to the suspension and brakes. Being a Volvo, the 2019 S60 has a long list of safety features including automatic emergency braking, run-off road mitigation, and oncoming lane mitigation. Volvo's Pilot Assist that assists a driver with steering, acceleration, and braking on well-marked roads will be an option. Pricing for the 2019 Volvo S60 is as followed, T5 Momentum: $36,795 T5 R-Design: $42,895 T5 Inscription: $43,895 T6 Momentum: $41,295 T6 R-Design: $46,395 T6 Inscription: $48,395 T8 R-Design: $55,395 T8 Inscription: $55,395 All prices include a $995 destination charge. Those wanting to do a Care by Volvo subscription will have the choice of three models, S60 T6 Momentum: $755 per month S60 T6 R-Design: $855 per month S60 T8 Polestar: To be announced at a later date. It needs to be noted that the T8 Polestar Engineered model will only be available through Care by Volvo for now. The order books are open right now for most of the S60 models; the T8 Polestar will be available to order starting June 28th. Production is expected to begin in the fall. Source: Volvo Volvo Cars launch new S60 sports sedan – the first Volvo car made in the USA Volvo Cars, the premium car maker, today revealed the new S60 luxury sedan at the company’s first American manufacturing plant outside Charleston, South Carolina. The new South Carolina plant is officially inaugurated today. The combined car launch and factory opening reinforce Volvo Cars’ commitment to the US, an important market for the company and its new sedan. The new S60 is the first Volvo car made in the United States. “The new S60 is one of the most exciting Volvo cars we’ve ever made,” said Håkan Samuelsson, president and chief executive of Volvo Cars. “It is a true driver’s car that gives us a strong position in the US and China sedan markets, creating more growth opportunities for Volvo Cars.” The new S60 is the first Volvo car to be sold without a diesel engine, signalling the company’s industry-leading commitment to electrification and a long-term future beyond the traditional combustion engine. In 2017 Volvo Cars was the first global car maker to announce its strategy that from 2019 all new models will be electrified. The award-winning turbo charged and supercharged T8 Twin Engine Plug-In Hybrid will be available in the new S60, delivering 313 horsepower with a rear electric motor adding 87 horsepower for a combined power output of 400 horsepower. The T5 FWD and T6 AWD will also be available. The T5 FWD, T6 AWD and T8 Twin Engine Plug-In Hybrid will carry a MSRP of $35,800, $40,300 and $54,400 respectively. The new S60 is available via traditional purchase, lease and Care by Volvo, a premium subscription service, which offers car access with no down payment via a monthly flat rate. Care by Volvo makes having a car as easy as having a mobile phone. A well-equipped S60 T6 AWD Momentum will be available for $775 a month through the program and the S60 T6 AWD R-Design for $850 a month. Reservations can be made online today at volvocars.com/us. The new S60 shares Volvo Cars’ own Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform, safety technology and infotainment system with the new V60 premium mid-size wagon, launched earlier this year, as well as the top-of-the-line 90 Series cars and award-winning XC60, all of which have achieved industry-leading safety ratings. This makes the new S60 one of the safest cars on the road. The City Safety with Autobrake technology assists the driver in avoiding potential collisions, and is the only system on the market to recognize pedestrians, cyclists and large animals. In a world first for the mid-size sedan segment, City Safety now also engages auto braking to mitigate oncoming collisions. The optional Pilot Assist system – which supports the driver with steering, acceleration and braking on well-marked roads up to 80 mph – has been upgraded with improved cornering performance. The S60 also includes Run-off Road Mitigation, Oncoming Lane Mitigation and other steering assistance systems. The optional Cross Traffic Alert with autobrake further enhances safety for people inside and outside the car. Volvo Cars’ Sensus Connect infotainment system is fully compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and 4G standard, and keeps drivers connected at all times. The intuitive control is a tablet-style touch screen interface that combines car functions, navigation, connected services and in-car entertainment apps. The new S60 will also be offered with a Polestar Engineered trim level – developed by Volvo Cars’ electric performance arm, Polestar. Polestar Engineered is only available on the T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid and is a complete offer with upgrades to the exterior and interior design, along with the car’s wheels, brakes, suspension and engine control unit, boosting the S60 T8 combined output to 415hp. A limited volume of this variant will be available exclusively through the Care by Volvo app on June 28.
