William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com July 17, 2012 Jaguar Land Rover North America's CEO, Andy Goss is calling for individual Jaguar and Land Rover dealers to merge together. “We want to cut the number of rooftops to about 200. At 200, the majority of dealerships would be Jaguar Land Rover,” Goss said. Goss hopes that merger of individual Jaguar and Land Rover dealers will improve overall sales. “Forty-five percent of people who own a Jaguar also own an SUV. It is the same customer base. It would be foolish not to try and get those customers,” said Goss. At the moment, there are about 97 stand alone Jaguar or Land Rover dealerships in the U.S.. Goss wants to see half of them merge. The company is focusing this plan in seven markets: Chicago, San Francisco, Denver, Los Angeles, New Jersey, New York state and Portland, Ore. The company isn't forcing dealers to buy or sell, but its not offering any incentives for them to merge. Goss is hoping the prospect of better sales will convince them. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com July 17, 2012 Hyundai has a bit of a problem. Currently, the Korean automaker has 5% market share in the U.S., but their supply of vehicles is very constrained. How constrained? Using the traditional measure of dealer inventory in "days supply," Hyundai's supply is very very low. At the moment, Hyundai's average at 25-27 days, or less than one month's supply. The Azera stands at 12 days supply. To put this into perspective, out of a 1,000 vehicles sitting on U.S. dealer lots, 25 of those are Hyundais. “We know we will be short from a production point of view. We're definitely passing up sales," said John Krafcik, Hyundai Motor America's president and CEO. To help free up vehicles, Hyundai has cut back on the number vehicles for fleets and is preparing a third shift for their plant in Alabama. However, Hyundai isn't backing down from their policy to only build 700,000 vehicles globally for the year. Source: Detroit Free Press William Maley is a staff writer for Cheers & Gears. Lexus News: Rumorpile: Lexus Considering LF-LC For Production
William Maley posted a topic in Toyota
William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com July 16, 2012 Back in March, we reported that Lexus LF-LC concept at this year's North American International Auto Show had a 50/50 chance of going into production. Now, it appears the chances for the LF-LC have gone up. Automotive News has learned from a few sources that the LF-LC will go into production due to the overwhelming reaction from people. "There has been a lot of interest from dealers and distributors," a Lexus official said. There is also another reason for Lexus to put the LF-LC into production. Lexus needs some pizzazz to their lineup and a halo car like the LF-LC would be the ticket. Sources inside Lexus say the LF-LC would be more of a "lite" version of the LFA than a traditional coupe. A production model could hit dealers within three years, or possibly sooner if they utilized a current platform. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com July 16, 2012 If you wanted something besides a V8 in Jaguar in the U.S., you would have to go Europe to go for a six-cylinder. This has caused sales of Jaguar vehicles to drop. "We have only V8s in a market that has moved to six-cylinder," said Andy Goss, CEO of Jaguar Land Rover North America. To stop the slide, Jaguar will introduce four and six-cylinder engines for the XF and XJ lines. The four-cylinder is the 240 HP 2.0L turbo-four from the Range Rover Evoque and will be placed into the XF. The six-cylinder will be a 3.0L supercharged V6 producing either 340 HP (XF) and 380 HP (XJ). Both the four and six will come with an eight-speed automatic. Goss says the V6 will be a game changer for Jaguar, since about 70% of the XF competitors come with a V6. The turbo-four and supercharged V6 come out later this year. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com July 16, 2012 With the last generation 3-Series and current X5, BMW brought back the diesel engine to their lineup. A 3.0L inline-six producing 265 HP and 425 lb-ft of torque. That could send a 3-Series to 60 MPH in 5.3 seconds and a X5 in 6.9 seconds. However, the concern is not performance, but fuel economy. BMW realizes this and has a pair of new diesel engines on their way to show it. This past Friday, Automobile senior editor Jason Cammisa tweeted out that BMW would introduce a 2.0L, single-turbo, inline-four diesel engine producing 180 HP and 280 lb-ft of torque. There is also a second diesel engine on its way. BMW confirmed a twin-turbo, 3.0L diesel inline-6 coming out the same time as the inline-4. No details on horsepower and torque at the moment. The two engines will come with eight-speed automatic transmission, and use a urea-based selective catalyst reduction (SCR) system to meet the strict U.S. emission standards. BMW isn't saying which models will get the the four and six-cylinder diesel engines. Source: Twitter, Automobile Magazine William Maley is a staff writer for Cheers & Gears. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com July 15, 2012 Last month, Polestar unveiled the 508 HP Volvo S60 Polestar performance concept. At the time, Polestar built one for "one specific client." But, there could be more 508 HP S60s on the road. Autocar talked with the managing director of Volvo UK, Nick Connor. Connor said that the company is “in serious discussion with Polestar to try and make the S60 a reality.” Connor goes onto say if the S60 Polestar is given the greenlight, the vehicle would be built in limited numbers and would be a marketing exercise. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com July 13, 2012 As we reported back in June, Jeep is planning a short 2013 model year for the Grand Cherokee to make way for the 2014 model. The 2014 model will bring forth a new diesel and a eight-speed transmission. What 2014 will also bring is a updated Grand Cherokee to go with those two items. Spy shots of a camouflaged group of Grand Cherokees have been caught and reveal some changes incoming for the 2014 model. The exteriors on this group of Grand Cherokees narrower upper and lower grilles, new fog lights and possibly a bit more curve for the front. The interiors were covered up, possibly hiding a large touchscreen for the dash. Source: Autoblog William Maley is a staff writer for Cheers & Gears. Interactive Review: 2012 Volkswagen Passat 2.5 SE
William Maley replied to William Maley's topic in Reviews
See, I don't think the sheet metal is thin. Thin would be the Mitsubishi Outlander which has a very tinny sound when opening and closing doors. As for the interior, I think its ok. It's not the most sexy interior at all, but everything is put together well and works. I do hope the rumor of a 1.8T for the Passat comes true.- 14 replies

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com July 12, 2012 Nissan is reportedly hard at work on the next generation Z sports car. In a interview with Inside Line, Nissan's design boss Shiro Nakamura said the next Z will be both smaller and lighter than the current 370Z. Also, Nakamura said the next Z will be aimed at a wider audience. To help with the weight loss of the next Z, Nissan could be looking at dropping the current 3.7L V6 and going towards a four-cylinder turbo. Also, with the next Z going smaller, speculation has it leaving the FM platform which also underpins machines like the Infiniti G Coupe and Sedan, and the FX crossover. Inside Line says Nissan might turn to its new partner, Daimler for help. Source: Inside Line William Maley is a staff writer for Cheers & Gears. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com July 12, 2012 When BMW introduced their M Performance vehicles lineup, enthusiasts in the U.S. had wet dreams of M550d xDrive sedans and wagons, X5 and X6 M50d crossovers, and the M135i hatchbacks roaming the roads. However, the dreams would be dashed due to emission regulations or the mantra of "Americans don't buy hatchbacks." However, there appears to be some hope on the horizon. According to Autoweek, BMW is working a M Performance vehicle to be shown at the 2014 North American International Auto Show called the M235i coupe. M235i? Let me explain. The rumors of the BMW 3-Series coupe and convertible moving the 4-Series designation could be happening with the 1-Series; the hatchback sticking with 1, while the coupe and convertible move up to 2. The M235i coupe will come with a 316 HP version of BMW's N55 turbocharged 3.0L inline-six currently used in the M135i hatchback. Transmissions will include a six-speed manual and seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. All-wheel-drive will be available, along with a convertible version. Back seat is large.. Like flagship sedan large. Thanks for the pointing that out, I fixed that in my post Nope, regular six speed automatic. DSG is only for the TDI and 3.6L V6 Not sure at the moment. I'll have an update on that either tomorrow or Friday Its ok. Soft and hard touch plastics are where you expect. The leatherette seats feel a bit weird. Controls are solid and good quality. Not this model. Possibly the diesel.- 14 replies
