  3. I kind of agree. I actually don't mind the interior (it's better than the old GP's). Just give it to me with a navi headunit (OEM or aftermarket) and maybe a couple of aluminum trim pieces around the door window switches to break up the blackness and I'd be happy. And the exterior, I already like the (non-GXP) front end and I'd be alright with the rear with some smoking of the tail lights or covers along these lines:
  4. Renault-Nissan May Overtake Ford to Become #3 Just about everyone in the auto industry knows that Toyota Motor Corp. ™ is on pace to pull ahead of General Motors Corp. (GM) as the world's largest carmaker this year or next. But less noticed has been a race just down the ranking tables, where another storied U.S. giant is facing similar pressure: Ford Motor Co. (F) is on the verge of being edged out by Renault (RNSDY)-Nissan (NSANY) for the No. 3 spot globally. As Ford shrinks to projected sales of 6.3 million vehicles for 2007, the French-Japanese alliance is likely to grow to 6.4 million, according to data from Morgan Stanley (MS) and UBS (UBS). Ford's catastrophic $12.7 billion loss in 2006, and impending production cuts this year, have shifted it into reverse, letting Renault-Nissan catch up fast. (Ford owns 33% of Mazda, which sold 1.3 million cars last year, but doesn't include those sales in its total.) Carlos Ghosn, chief executive at both Renault and Nissan, has pushed the two companies to collaborate on engineering and research and development. It's a formula that seems to be working. As Detroit has struggled, Ghosn has quietly boosted design and quality, cut costs, and attacked high-growth Asian markets. It hasn't always been easy for Ghosn, who saved Nissan from near-bankruptcy in 1999. Last year was filled with setbacks and troublesome distractions, such as failed talks on expanding the Renault-Nissan alliance to include GM. Ghosn ordered improvements in new models, causing costly delays. But getting it right was essential, especially in the wake of earlier quality problems. All told, 2006 sales for the Renault-Nissan alliance fell 3.6% worldwide. Now the repair work seems largely done, and both companies are poised to rebound. Nissan's U.S. third-quarter sales rose 1%, reversing a first-half slide. For the next fiscal year, Nissan's global sales will rise 7%, Standard & Poor's forecasts. That's largely thanks to the launch of nine new models, including revamped versions of high-volume cars such as the Altima, Sentra, and Infiniti G35 sedan. Renault's global sales are also expected to jump 7% this year, Morgan Stanley estimates, as the Twingo subcompact, a revamped Laguna sedan, and a minivan version of the low-cost Logan all hit the market. That should help Ghosn start delivering on his promise of 6% margins at Renault in 2009. BusinessWeek

  9. Jan. 2007 Sales: Mercedes-Benz USA MONTVALE, N.J., Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Coming off its thirteenth year of consecutive sales increases, Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) today reported sales of 17,069 new vehicles for January 2007, up 36.9 percent from last January making this the best January sales in the company's history. In 2006, Mercedes-Benz significantly enhanced its competitive presence in the luxury light truck market with the launch of the full-sized luxury SUV: the GL-Class, which sold 1,815 units in January. The popularity of the M-Class model line continued to build with a 19.8 percent increase compared to last January (2,351 vs. 1,962). As a group, sales for Mercedes-Benz vehicles in the luxury light truck segment continue to gain momentum with an 82.8 percent increase over January 2006. Other highlights for MBUSA sales in January include a 24 percent increase in its portfolio of passenger cars (12,058 vs. 9,728). Volume for the month was led by the C-Class with 3,928 units sold, a 26.8 percent increase over last January's 3,098 units. Sales for the E-Class family of sedans and wagons, including those with the new clean diesel technology called BlueTec, grew by 36.9 percent with 3,375 models sold. As a group, model lines at the high-end of the Mercedes-Benz portfolio -- S-, SL-, and CL-Classes -- rose 78.1 percent (2,705 vs. 1,519 units) in January. 14. Jan. 2007 Sales: General Motors DETROIT - GM accelerated its efforts to reduce daily rental sales with a dramatic cut versus January 2006, contributing to United States total deliveries of 247,464 vehicles, down 19.7 percent on a sales day adjusted basis, from sales of 296,003 in January 2006. "We are aggressively reducing our daily rental fleet sales as a continuing element of our strategy to offer industry-leading value and improve residuals. Importantly, we also are launching significant new vehicles such as everybody's truck of the year, the Chevrolet Silverado, and GMC Sierra full-size pickups, as well as the new GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook mid-utility crossovers," said Mark LaNeve, vice president, GM North American Sales, Service and Marketing. "In January, our mix of total fleet to retail sales continued to improve significantly. The positive movement we have seen in total mix, and the mix of fleet to retail sales, positions us for future retail sales growth." Total full-size pickup retail sales were up 7 percent compared with January 2006, with positive showings by Chevrolet Avalanche up 77 percent and GMC Sierra up 13 percent. Chevrolet Silverado retail sales volume was up more than 1,000 trucks compared with last January. The new GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook together accounted for more than 2,300 retail vehicle sales in the month. Combined with a 25 percent increase in retail sales for Buick Rendezvous, the mid-utility segment grew retail sales 132 percent compared with year-ago January levels. Large luxury utilities continued to perform well, with a 40 percent retail increase by Cadillac Escalade, a 116 percent retail increase by the Escalade ESV and a 44 percent retail increase by Escalade EXT, compared with January 2006. "The continued strong performance of our segment-leading Escalade luxury utilities demonstrates our ability to design and deliver outstanding large luxury SUVs, with the best value, to the marketplace," LaNeve added. Driven by a 5 percent increase in Chevrolet Aveo retail sales, GM's economy car segment retail volume was up 5 percent compared with January 2006. A 6 percent retail increase in Buick Lucerne and a 30 percent increase in Chevrolet Impala retail sales, compared with the same month a year ago, pushed GM's mid-car segment retail volume up 3 percent. Certified Used Vehicles January 2007 sales for all certified GM brands, including GM Certified Used Vehicles, Cadillac Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles, Saturn Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles, Saab Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles, and HUMMER Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles, were 43,262 units, up nearly 10 percent from last January. GM Certified Used Vehicles, the industry's top-selling certified brand, posted January sales of 37,550 units, up 9 percent from year-ago levels. Cadillac Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles posted strong January sales of 3,732 units, up nearly 27 percent. Saturn Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles sold 1,326 units in January, down 17.5 percent. Saab Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles sold 527 units, up 22 percent, and HUMMER Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles sold 127 units. 20. Jan. 2007 Sales: Ford Motor Company DEARBORN, Mich., Feb. 1 - Ford Motor Company's January U.S. sales declined 19 percent compared with a year ago, largely as a result of a planned reduction in sales to daily rental companies. Sales to daily rental companies were cut by 65 percent. “All of us at Ford are focused on restructuring our business to be profitable at lower volumes and offering more of the products people want, including more cars and more crossovers,” said Mark Fields, Ford’s President of The Americas. “We are focusing more of our attention on retail customers and reducing sales to daily rental companies sharply. Our customers benefit from this plan because their vehicles’ residual values will improve – a trend we already are seeing with our newest products.” The resale values of Ford’s newest products have improved by as much as 11 percentage points – with Ford closing the gap on many Asian competitors – according to the Automotive Leasing Guide. Residual values have improved 2 percentage points compared with the prior model year for the 2007 Ford Fusion sedan, 6 points better for the 2007 Lincoln Navigator, 9 points better for the 2007 Ford Expedition and 11 points better for the 2008 Ford Escape. Ford’s new 2007 Edge crossover has resale values higher than Toyota Highlander and Nissan Murano. January marked the first full month on sale for the company's new crossover utilities – the Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX. Edge sales were 5,586 and MKX sales were 1,699. In fact, the Edge post higher sales in its introduction month than did Ford's popular Fusion in its first month (4,078 in October 2005). Dealers reported higher retail sales for the company's 2007 model mid-size cars, the Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, and Lincoln MKZ. In addition, the all-new Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator full-size SUVs extended their winning streaks into 2007. Expedition sales have been higher than a year ago for five months in a row and Navigator sales have been up the last four months. The Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner utility vehicles posted sharply higher retail sales in advance of a new 2008 model, which now is being shipped to dealers from Ford's Kansas City (Mo.) Assembly Plant. Ford saw lower sales for its popular F-Series pickup truck in January (down 15 percent), which compares with a strong performance for America's best-selling pickup last year. The company expects softness in new home construction to adversely affect full-size pickup sales through the first half of 2007.
