It saved them money. Instead of developing an Insignia, Regal, Grand Am, AND an Aura, they developed just the Insignia (and did a great job) and slapped Buick badges on it for the places they don't sell Opel. For people who were in it for the deal, there is the still very nice Malibu. For those who want something nicer and sportier, there is the Regal. Ditto Cobat/G5 - Cruze/Verano Ditto Aveo/G3 - Sonic Only the G8 and Solctice don't have a direct replacement...... yet. And how many cried that GM was going to fail without Pontiac? Camino? Ocnblu? Anyone else?

That is looking hot. Love the proportions.

I forgot about Focus. That would be on the top of my list, if I were to buy new and someone destroyed my poor Passat. But the real question everyone wants to know the answer to is if you have to replace your Passat, will you also replace the brontosaurus sticker by the fuel door?

Wow, only 887,xxx more miles to go before I get a new car!! haha

I'm confused...there are ALT and CTRL keys on both sides of the spacebar. What is his keyboard configuration?? I ask because I do that maneuver one-handed with no problems.

Aaaaaaaaaand it looks like we have another blast at the nuclear plant. http://english.aljazeera.net/news/asia-pacific/2011/03/20113144314279315.html

Junk that lasted 25 years on the road.

If my Aurora were destroyed, I'd be looking at a Regal.

We have no idea if luxury buyers care about hybrids because very few options exist. The Lexus was a joke--that hybrid was only for providing extra power, not actually improving fuel economy.

Nope, not comparable. And there have been several accidents over the years, and each one is an environmental catastrophe. They still don't have the technology to contain a blowout, and the methods they used last year were the same exact methods they tried (and failed with) back in the 1970s. The nuclear industry has evolved in the last 40-some years.

I just hope we can get some honest answers about the global impact of this fiasco.

CNN was saying the explosion was near the plant, not at the reactor. An explosion in/of the reactor is such an incredibly remote possibility that it's hardly worth even thinking about. Chernobyl was a horribly designed plant that wasn't maintained properly and run by people who made mistake after mistake reacting to the situation. This is a modern plant that, in the case of a meltdown, should be almost completely self-containing. Freaking out about the plant isn't called for at all. *edit* Look at what happened when Three Mile Island melted down... external to the plant, nothing. TMI is still running the other reactor at the plant. No one was hurt. All that happened was it ruined that one reactor and showed that the safety systems worked, but everyone freaked out anyway. I suppose it's possible that this event could be a bit worse than that in a worst case scenario, but that's considering the plant got nailed with a freakishly nasty series of earthquakes and a massive tsunami. It's still, in the worst case scenario, not going to come anywhere near the events of Chernobyl. I never invoked Chernobyl, so why are you arguing that with me? I'm well aware of the deficiencies of Chernobyl, namely the utter lack of a containment facility. And a building housing a reactor DID explode. Listen, I'm a fan of nuclear power...however, I am NOT a fan of governmental disinformation during a crisis, and that's what the Japanese have been doing this whole time, as has been reported on every major news network. "Oh, everything's fine, minor damage, backup systems are working as designed" turns into "primary backup systems have failed, but the secondary backups are working as designed," which then becomes "we ran out of batteries, but everything's fine because we have a team of scientists and experts flying in to assist and worse-case scenario is that a little radiation leaks, but no explosion is possible." soon followed by an explosion. Sorry, but depending on how this $h! blows across the ocean, I'm in the line of fire for radiation exposure. I want to know what is actually happening so I can prepare accordingly to protect myself. And I certainly don't trust the US government to tell me the truth, either.

I click on "View New Content" and rarely do I get more than a few topics showing up at a time, and the vast majority aren't news. Until we get regular, daily original articles based on the news of the day, I honestly would prefer to have an autoblog dump. At least I'd be getting news in one stop on the net instead of multiple.

No no no...the meltdown isn't a Chernobyl-type meltdown...basically this is, worst-case scenario, some equipment damage and slight radiation that won't exceed a 3-km radius according to http://english.aljaz...4353222667.html Guess I was being naïve as far as what the Japanese government was reporting. Looks like the Japanese still haven't figured out the value of honesty--there's no "saving face" when it comes to nuclear disasters, morons. Check it: Japanese officials say they can contain it...but they also said this wasn't a possibility before. Sweet, I can't wait to experience radiation sweeping eastward.

I'd rather have a large flagship Buick that offers all of these features for $60k, with a proper large RWD Cadillac with the creme de la creme at $80-$110k

Hey, You Look Familiar - GM Introduces Chevrolet Captiva Sport For Fleets
Croc replied to William Maley's topic in Chevrolet
If it was retail, it'd create the same reaction as when GM put a Buick badge on it. Referencing the euro branding of the Thetas, this is an Opel Antara not a Chevrolet Captiva. The Antara comes as a 5-seater only as the rear overhang is some 4 inches shorter than the Captiva's I stand corrected. I did look at some photos on Google and was confused about how different the Euro Captiva looked. As far as the VUE rebadging, well, this works a lot better as a Chevrolet than it does as a Buick, design-wise. -
Honestly, as much "clutter" as there was with duplicates, we need regular automotive news posting here. I'd rather have too many news posts that need merging versus not enough to sustain discussion.

This should be for retail as well. Why no 7-passenger version? -
So I had to get up at 6am to take some friends to the airport, and it's a good thing I did because as I'm driving home, my mother calls me, asking where I am, and imploring me to STAY AWAY from the water and be safe. I live 20 minutes from the coast.

I don't get this car, and I don't get why it's a Cadillac. We already have a LaCrosse...do we need a "big" Cadillac too?? Muddled brand positioning.

Where in the Southland are you?? It looks like we're just going to get a small, 3-ft. surge for a few hours. No biggie for the most part...Balboa Peninsula is the only question, really.
