Third Time's The Charm? Cadillac Returns To Europe
Croc replied to William Maley's topic in Cadillac
Unless you elaborate on your reasoning, I think your theory on needing a full generation of the two entry sedans is arbitrary and capricious. Also, I don't care what AUDI is doing. They aren't the goal. You gotta determine your competition and do one better. Cadillac has clearly set the crosshairs on MB and BMW, so that's what they need to focus on and then do one better: RWD high-end vehicles with plenty of performance. FWD doesn't do performance. It can perform well (relatively), but it still ain't performance. This too. -
Third Time's The Charm? Cadillac Returns To Europe

I think they need to start at the bottom and work their way up. Offer a BMW busting diesel ATS and CTS first. Let them wet their whistle on those. Um, no. With all due respect, launching Cadillac from the low-end up will make it just that much harder for Europe to take it seriously on the same level of BMW and Mercedes. Cadillacs are jokes to Europeans, and quite frankly they need to put their best foot forward. No SAAB-based BTS. Joke. Stick to the premium. Hell, sell them the Chinese SLS. In fact, sell that $h! HERE. But Cadillac needs to re-launch in Europe with both fists swinging, not with their hands tied behind their figurative back. Cadillac needs to be seen by the most eyes possible in Europe. That means they need to get the butts of as many mid-level execs who get company cars (a very common occurrence in EU) into seats. Mid-level execs don't get S-classes. They get A3s, A4s, 320di, and C-classes... almost always in diesels. Cadillac selling 12 S-Class level cars in the EU isn't the way to gain visibility there..... though I suppose they could whore them out to the Taxi-cab fleet like Mercedes has. You're misinterpreting. I'm certainly not suggesting Cadillac ONLY launch with S-Class competitors and not anything else--really that's just ridiculous. But they need to launch with one, and a good one at that. They need to launch with a complete lineup that competes with the EU luxury marques............I mean isn't that what they'd like to do, anyway? Can't compete with obvious holes in your lineup. -
So lets give the aging baby boomers a car that can compete with the Avalon and Lexus. Because that's Buick's job. GM has made it clear in their recent press releases that they want Cadillac to go after Mercedes and BMW, and Buick to go after the softer lux brands, like Lexus and Jaguar. Their product is muddled and way out of sync with their PR, but frankly I think the PR and intent is on point and in the right direction. Now it's about product. Just because someone may want a big cruiser does NOT mean they are entitled to a Cadillac badge on the hood. If they want to throw a fit and take their ball over to Mercedes, go for it. Then MB will start to get a geezer reputation. Anyway, it's a moot point. The Boomers swore off GM because of the 70s and 80s. GM could make a car that could cure cancer and they still will buy the Toyota instead. That's why you don't $h! on your customers--you alienate them for life. Finally, younger buyers (by that I mean under 50) are far more brand agnostic than their parents. Hence, that's why GM should focus on pandering to that market--it's a growth demographic, not a dying one. I am still blown away by how many Regals and LaCrosses I see around LA. Even started seeing a few Cruzes. Good signs. Never see a DTS, but CTS and SRX are common enough sights.

Find me his address. I'm too lazy to google stalk him, but not so lazy I wouldn't write. I'll do it, I don't care. -
Um, and your choice is...?

Batteries Charge Quickly and Retain Capacity, Thanks to New Structure
Croc replied to Croc's topic in Industry News
Fer sher. I'd love to shift the energy debate away from cars and towards the production of electricity part of the equation. By the way, anyone know of a green energy company that pays a dividend as nice as Exxon? I inherited some and I would love nothing more than to dump it, but unfortunately I need the money for now...This would not be a gamble, I want a low-risk, consistent-yield stock. -
Set boundaries and have some confidence. If you have confidence, you won't feel sorry for yourself and give in when an opportunity presents itself. Remember: going back might feel good for an hour or two, but it just adds complication in the long term. Unless you're a drama queen, that should be incentive enough to stay away. Oh, and they can't come back around if you don't take their calls. I'm a big fan of call dodging. And who cares if they leave a voicemail? 337 skips and deletes that $h! so you don't have to hear it.

Batteries Charge Quickly and Retain Capacity, Thanks to New Structure

What car has a 100 mile range and fully charges in an hour? Nothing worth driving. Nissan Leaf is 7-8 hours on 220. This article is hopeful for a 5 minute charge. That's 84 times faster. Granted, that's within the 10-100 times better than current tech range they claim, but reality rarely sees the result (at least at a marketable price) at the upper end of early bragging & hopes of such things. If it can result in a charge time that's twice as fast, that would be huge, and maybe that's something we can hope for. Any claims more than that, and I'll have to see it to believe it, especially at a cost that's able to be used in cars that can be priced for regular consumers. Economies of scale will drive the costs down, as will industry standardization. Hybrid technologies are so expensive partially because everything is still proprietary, though they have really come down in cost over the past decade. Also, this is a new battery technology that seems to combine two technological improvements: capacity and charge/discharge speed. Regarding the last one, I read an article a few years ago about a breakthrough in batteries that allowed them to behave more like capacitors, so this one doesn't surprise me too much. I'd give it 7-10 years, assuming the oil lobby doesn't stymie the effort. -
Wow just add a Justin Bieber, Shania Twain and/or an Avril Lavigne song and you'll have a lock on the irritating Canadian exports!! http://media.photobucket.com/image/%252522bad%20canada!%252522/TravisMichaels/badCanada.jpg?o=

The CTS is the volume Cadillac. ATS will take that over when it arrives. If CTS weren't selling in sufficient volume, the business case for coupe and wagon variants couldn't have been made. The DTS is just a fleet queen and a staple of the nursing home circuit. Except guess what? Aging baby boomers are buying Toyota Avalons and Lexuses, not big boaty Cadillacs. Octogenarians don't buy new cars--they keep what they have until they die or their keys get taken away.

Third Time's The Charm? Cadillac Returns To Europe

By the way, what happened to the XLR? Was it really killed because some dumbasses in Detroit couldn't be bothered to update its interior? I can't imagine it didn't turn a nice profit seeing as its MSRP was roughly twice that of the Corvette. Everybody loved it...until they got inside. Cadillac needs a halo vehicle like this. Especially if they want to re-enter Europe. -

Don't bother until a true S-Class competitor is offered. The XTS is bull$h! and won't sell in Europe. Geriatrics take public transit in Europe instead of blowing their pensions on FWD luxobarges. -
I love it. I don't understand the flying buttresses though...seems like they'd hamper rear visibility a bit. Also, I would have loved for GM to add a midgate-type of feature to their compact line. Maybe that's coming as a NA variant? Regardless, A+. This is a truck that looks gorgeous outside AND inside.

First of all, many of those issues have already been discussed in that section, and those types of issues already fit into it. Second of all, if adults are going to have a civil, educated discussion, one needs to provide sources. Now, why are you lumping MSNBC, NPR, Jon Stewart and dKos in there? With the exception of some diaries on dKos, those are all pretty good, legitimate sources of info. I can understand why Faux and their ilk are included, what with using video footage with palm trees in the background to fabricate a story about angry mobs in Madison, Wisconsin, but the others are a mystery to me. If anything, that would just perpetuate the false equivalency that is peddled by the mainstream media--namely, that two sides say stuff and both are valued and the truth is in the middle or you can draw your own conclusions based on who appeals to your personality more. That's ridiculous. Facts are facts. If someone says something ridiculous, I expect to see them called out on it. Not a fan of your idea. and I have to say I'm a little offended that you're equating some of those sources with partisan hackery...especially NPR. I mean good grief...

Well if they're just so awful, why are they so prized by their owners and why are they so hard to come by and why do they have most excellent resale values? Sorry your friend didn't like his, but honestly it's the car's fault for spinning on icy roads? As you mentioned, his Jags fell apart. The 80s weren't kind to cars because all those new electronics had a lot of bugs to work out, but the Allante's biggest issue was a squirrely electric system known for randomly sounding the horn on its own.

Yogurt soju? The hell do you get that? I love soju--great way to serve cocktails with only a 2-way license--but I've never seen it paired with yogurt. Katy Perry cannot sing. I'm not amazing amazing at all and I can sing better than she can. I'm totally judging you for that, by the way.

Thanks for the over-share, there.

I can do a few of hers, too. Don't know the words to "Blow" yet, but that one would be super fun wasted with a mic.

You know, the last time there was a left/right debate it was called Crossfire and Jon Stewart pretty much killed that show for "ruining America." I like it as it is.

I can rock a great Semi-Charmed Life if I'm not having a bad voice day. I can also awkwardly rock "Overdosin'" or "Dancing On My Own."

Then of course there's the prepubescent girl who goes by the name Justin Bieber. I can't wait for the televised Quinceañera.

I require center armrests--both front and back. I don't need one in the back..I don't ride there, but one in the front is definitely a must have.. I don't ride there either, but it's a great, unassuming place to store something away from prying eyes, and I also don't actually enjoy fleecing my friends for $45 to pay for an interior detailing when they spill a slurpee in the back seat (yes, that's my rule: you can eat/drink in my car, but if you make a mess and/or spill, I'm taking it to the most expensive detailer I can find and you're paying for it. It's a fantastic deterrent).
