18 is too young to drink in this country......smoke weed or something
3. I chose Tempest (or LeMans) with regards to being a mid-sized car... But if it were compact, I'd go with Phoenix.
4. I don't know what some of y'all are talking about....the Auto Show here is that classic "first big event of the year"....my first Saturday in January tradition. And I think starting a week before Detroit afforded it a lot of good attention (though the goodies seemed to always be saved for Detroit). I'm not too sure about moving it to November (which I remember as being the month of that crappy Long Beach show back in the days)...but it may work out for the best. Besides, a November move makes us look like the American Music Awards to Detroit's Grammys.
5. The greenhouse of the doors standing out at the top of that list.
6. Are you one of the famed insiders they look to here? I was hoping Epsilon II would be flexible.
7. If there are gonna be mid-sized rear-drivers, they should be on Epsilon II. Leave Zeta (or whatever the hell it will be) for big cars.
8. To reserve names away from people.... That's why I hurried the hell up and registered mine to this new forum to keep that from happening.
9. Yeah, I think that's what it basically is, that there's not enough car news oer new releases to really heat things up around the other parts of this forum.... Besides if anyone's a fan of anything, they better begin speaking up for them....tons of registered C&Gers that just lurk.
10. I don't....it gets way too long, and people like to name off throwaway spottings (who cares how many Grand Ams you saw?)
11. Going to high school in Gardena, dealing with the kids of Japanese and Hawaiian descent was a monster....they swore up and down that there was nothing like a Japanese car....which was kind of annoying, but for the fact that the Civics, CRXs, Integras, Preludes, and Accords they drove to school in were all quite nicely built. Knowing then what I know now, I'd have stuck to my guns about that F-body. In any case, not to stay racial about it (ban me please!), but I still think the Asians (especially in this city) are the hardest sell, because Japanese cars (and in a lot of cases, that JDM aftermarket crap they wanna throw on it) are absolutely the business to a lot of, if not most of them.... Black males, however, have zero problem, by and large, with American cars, and more often than not, tend to aspire to them.... The jury's still out on sisters and everyone else....
12. Shoot, I would to....old girl just looks sexy in that dress.....and I can see where the foot fetish guys get it from.
13. Nah, that dubious distinction belongs to the 84 Sentra wagon I had to sit in last night.....what a rattletrap.
14. I guess no one felt this topic.....oh well...
15. And we all know what whiny little Chevy wants, Chevy gets....at the expense of every other division.... I wouldn't commit the blasphemy of calling the 3.8 a BOP engine....that's all Buick, all the time. Definitely no 455.
16. I think Mits is here to stay....Isuzu, however? They're done within two years. Mitsubishi has the rep of the boy-racer specials Eclipse and Lancer Evo to protect out here. Isuzu quit doing cars long ago, and the only product they have left looks like what Chevy and GMC offers (why did they kill the Axiom again?), so with lack of autonomy, they don't have a leg to stand on...
17. Saw an NBC reporter walk by that same car (a white one).....squashed like a grape....
18. No it doesn't!! I looked at those letters and I knew that a GTA and GTP were related, were the top performance trims of each, and very Pontiac when I was a kid. Personally, I think it should go like this: base (no trim lettering at all) SE (slightly better in the options and engine department) Formula or three-letter (where the ultimate engine, tranny, suspension, and wheels go) Hence: the best Grand Prix can still be a GTP. the best intermediate car would be the GTO (where it historically belongs) the hottest Firebird/Trans Am can be a GTA or Formula the best Solstice can be a Formula or a GTS or something. Isn't the current hottest Vibe a GTR or something?
19. Back in the 90s, the Cobalt coupe would have been more in the sports coupe wars (Prelude, Probe, et al) than trying to line up against the Civic and Corolla coupes.
20. He just had to do that to a poor Firebird...why couldn't he cut up a Camaro instead? BTW, damn, Harley, over 400 posts already? More than each admin...
21. Well, damn, Brian....you may as well have locked the thread after your response....I was just saying "if".... Don't trip, I like keeping it to GM appreciation too....that's why I steered clear of those other sites....here, people of like minds can show how good a lot of GMs actually are. Still though, would have been cool to stick around after a car topic and talk a little NBA or about a movie you saw or something, with a set of folks whose take on such you'd like to see.... But I can definitely see where you wouldn't want a bunch of people coming here ONLY to talk about things that have nothing to do with General Motors....this place would become Okayplayer rather quickly, and get a bunch of 14-year-old girls yelling "F**k GM, I wana do AarOn cArTeR in da bak uv N EcHo!" or something similarly crazy....
22. Did you really think the HHR was going to be an SUV? It's as car as it gets.
23. OK, this weirds things out quite a bit: And I quote:
BUICK LaCrosse: The LaCrosse debuted for the 2005 model year; no major changes are coming soon. The car may be redesigned for the 2010 model year on GM's Epsilon 2 front-wheel-drive platform. All vehicles developed on Epsilon 2 will be engineered by GM Europe in Ruesselsheim, Germany. U.S. operations will provide styling input.
This is scary for two reasons: -This is the second source that really makes you think GM is backing away from the flexible Epsilon idea. -Opel's in charge, who quite obviously could give a crap about allowing for power to the rear wheels.
CADILLAC BLS: The next-generation of the small Cadillac BLS announced for Europe may come to the United States as an entry-level convertible and coupe, positioned below the CTS. The BLS will be sold in Europe beginning in 2006, developed on GM's fwd Epsilon platform. If approved, U.S. sales would not begin until about 2010. The vehicle for the United States would be developed on the awd Epsilon 2 architecture.
This would be simply weird....all these cars kept within mere inches of one another makes for a major glut. If BLS is compact, is the CTS an intermediate? If the CTS is compact, is the STS an intermediate? If the CTS is intermediate, is the STS a big car?
SRX: GM has delayed re-engineering and restyling the SRX until the 2010 model year. The SRX was to be re-engineered for the 2008 model year. An interior freshening for the 2007 model year remains on schedule.
This makes sense....the SRX was basically done right (except for the obvious fact that it should have been a car instead of a crossover, but I digress :)), and I think it should be given a chance to grow on the people. Besides, one would love to see that V-Series version.
Cobalt: The 2006 model year is big for performance at Chevrolet, with the SS badge added to a wide range of high-horsepower vehicles. Cobalt SS coupe and sedan models feature a 171-hp, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine as well as suspension and styling enhancements.
I really don't think the SS name should be used on such a car....RS would work way better...but I'm not the decision maker here....
Chevrolet will receive a small sport wagon built on a shorter version of the Theta architecture used on the Equinox. The 2009 model will target the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4.
Isn't the Equinox small enough? Maybe a better idea would be to simply make a two-door Equinox.
HUMMER H1: As the first entry in what GM is calling Hummer's "performance series," the 2006 H1 Alpha offers a 300-hp, 6.6-liter V-8 turbo diesel and a five-speed automatic.
How very ballsy....it really makes still selling this thing to civilians quite pointless.
Solstice: Production and engineering issues hampered the launch of the two-passenger roadster, GM's first vehicle on its new rwd Kappa architecture. Vehicles are being shipped to dealers this month. Production will slowly ramp up. A 177-hp, 2.4-liter Ecotec four-cylinder engine is available at launch, along with a five-speed manual and five-speed automatic transmission. A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder GT version with a restyled front fascia is in the works for the 2007 model year. A hardtop model will debut in the 2008 model year.
One wonders if (and hopes) it will be that fastback we saw photos of...hopefully they engineer a damn trunk into that badboy....
Vibe: The Vibe is scheduled to be restyled and re-engineered for the 2007 model year. It will continue on a Toyota platform.
A golden opportunity to move to a platform within GM (read: Delta) is being squandered....
Sky: The small rwd roadster debuts early next year as a 2007 model. Developed on GM's Kappa architecture, the two-passenger car will be built in Wilmington, Del., next to the Pontiac Solstice and an Opel model. The Sky is equipped with a 2.4-liter, 170-hp four-cylinder engine that has variable valve timing. A five-speed automatic will be optional. While the Sky, Solstice and Opel models share the Kappa platform and mechanicals, the Sky's price will be higher than the Solstice because it has more standard equipment. The Sky's starting price is expected to be less than $25,000. A high-performance model with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine will be available late in the model year. A supercharged model will follow in the 2008 model year.
Well, at least Saturn won't get a fastback....I hope.
Aura: The Aura will share Opel sheet metal and be assembled in the United States. Saturn's mid-sized 2007 Aura sedan will resemble the concept car shown at the Detroit auto show in January. The car will offer three engine choices: 2.4-liter, four-cylinder; a 3.4-liter V-6; and a 3.6-liter V-6. A 300-hp version of the 3.6-liter V-6 is planned for the 2008 model year.
OK, now things get that much worse....unless the GXP G6 gets the same engine, there will be trouble.
24. I've been thinking for a minute that there should be a turbocharged Aveo Z16 or something like that. Sounds better than Aveo SS, which, let's face it, the SS moniker is simply silly on cars that small....
25. Damn, forgot to add options for "all of the above" or "none" Maybe if an admin can take care of that....
