Toyota cheated again. They quote daily selling rate percentages as opposed to the actual percentage from having only 23 selling days this year. 92 extra Corollas sold in November is not a 9.2% increase.

Wanna bet everyone does that with their numbers?

Why is the SC still in production ??

For the same reason Saab is still in production, or the Land Cruiser, or DTS. Poor management that hangs on to dated models because they have nothing else to sell, and want to keep the factory running.

Ford never does. Neither does GM. Both have always based their percentages on the actual units sold, not a daily selling rate. I just checked Chrysler and Nissan and both also appear to be based on actual units, not DSR.

The Camry outsold the Cobalt, Malibu and Impala combined.

Most of their products are lousy, but they know how to sell mass market sedans.

Cobalt, Malibu, and Impala don't need to head back to the dealer to get a third of their brake pedal shaved off, the floor pan hammered out, and the computer reprogrammed.

I stand corrected. The October numbers for GM have both an overall percentage and a sales day percentage.

Cool - thanks !!

That answers my next question as to why the 1-series, 6-series, Z4, X3 and X6 are still in production over @ BMW !

Hmm...Honda is apparently going by a daily selling rate as well. But yet, things aren't all meshing because doing a pure DSR across the board would also inflate losses.

I've never been the greatest at math, but this makes no sense at all even if you think in terms of DSR.

39,000 Honda cars 11/2008 vs. 45,000 Honda cars 11/2009 is only a -4.4% decline, yet

31,000 Honda trucks 11/2008 vs. 34,000 Honda trucks 11/2009 is somehow a 20% increase?

I don't understand why you consider that cheating. Every automaker should report the % based on DSR not actual. It gives a more accurate picture on how many cars they sell if given the same amount of time as the year before.

It's correct if you adjust for DSR. 23 days in 09, and 25 in 08.

39000/23=1695 per day in 09 and 45000/25=1800 per day in 08

34000/23=1478 per day in 09 and 31000/25=1240 per day in 08

I actually like the 1 series....but I will never own one.

Neat little car, actually. The Z4 has become a bloated pig...and the X3 and X6 production needs to be recycled into something more useful and better looking, like beer cans.

I've noticed exactly (1) 1-series on the road (but then again, I have multiple BMW visual filters in place when out driving); just like the other cars just a smidge smaller, but it looked decent for a BMW.

But a mere 500 sold in 1 month is pathetic- what happened; all those who 'had to be the first on the block' exhausted already ??

I think we are seeing a huge shift in the automotive market...and that the GMW 1 series isn't well matched for the curent market.

We have one that's part of our local autocross group, and a few more that come out to play once in awhile. Kind of a neat little car.

And remember, I'm grading on a curve. I'm not saying I would rather own it than a 65 GTO or a 57 Olds, I'm saying it's better than a Cube, Crosstour, Soul, Camry, Avalon, Sebring, et al.
