I think this is the first BMW model to look different every year. Black exterior trim is back for '07, but to a lesser degree than the '05's.

I love what BMW has been doing with their taillamps in the latest models--there are three tubes that run horizontally across inside the lens lit up with I think red LEDs. It's subtle and elegant.

Agreed. BMW has some of the best taillights in the business. Runners up include Volkswagen and Cadillac.

I don't see how so many people on here hate the X3. Yes, it's overpriced and may ride like it is lacking suspension but it is a pretty damn nice small SUV.

I don't think the BMW X3 or X5 are attractive at all.. I like their interiors usually, but that goes for most BMWs. I don't care for their exterior styling much--not sure what it is--can't put my finger on it either.

The '97 Cavalier bumper treatments of the '05 ruined it for me. Plus, the 3er wagon is cooler.

I LOVE the way the X3 drives......

The suspension IS firm, but man the first time you take it around a corner, you won't mind as much.....

I really like this new redesign.....and I LOVE the new 3.0L magnesium L6.

What's the interior like I wonder?

I also think the X3 is a great driving small SUV for those who are into these things. It makes a lot more sense than a lot of the other hulking SUVs, and for the price, the interior is decent. My only real criticism of the thing is its looks, which is subjective, but the exterior changes are going in the right direction.

Yea...they actually started that in the refreshed e39 5-series (you can actually see them in my sig pic)...It's called Celis technology...same technology used for the angel eyes (except those don't use LED's). Basically they are prism light rods. The company who produces the BMW headlights (Hella) developed it. They look good. I especially like them on the new Z4.

As far as the interior of the X3 goes...Not much has changed at all except the added trim pieces (and the steering wheel...which could have been an option before, but I'm not sure...I still can't believe they were using that old wheel...talk about BMW parts bin...that thing goes way back...).

Here's the interior:

And the old one:

The two-tone and wood looks nice but that center stack looks like it received some help from GM. :P

Actually you will be able to tell more when you sit in it. Supposedly, the "dot-matrix" dash and door panel trim has been replaced with soft-touch stuff that resembles the grain and texture of what you see in the current 3 and 5-series (re....much better.)

So....dash pretty much stays the same.....but materials take a dramatic uptick in quality.

I recently spent some time in a loaner X3 3.0 Pace BMW supplied us with.

The interior was a genuine weakness. The hard, hollow plastics shocked me coming from a 3er. I don't remember our loaner having that steering wheel (our 3er has it), but it sticks out like a sore thumb in that shot.

As for the exterior, it looks genuinely attractive now IMO. The overstyled taillamps are a thing of the past (the new ones look great), and something about that front-end just looks right. The 3.0-liter engine as standard equipment is great news.

I'm now a fan.
