OK, who's the jerk that dictated that all new cars have to have HUGE freakin headlights?!

God, I hate that look.

Whoever it was, I've got a Silverado bumper with his name on it.

personally i love the headlight design of the mid 80's regals, something about twin headlights in that package/chrome/marker lights look powerful and refined to me.

maybe it's bias on my part, but my first car was an 83 regal wagon :)

I have more of a problem with "pinched in at the inside, flared out at the outside" trinangulated lights (read current edition Grand Prix...which I otherwise like).

i like to play guess the headlights / car model at night on the highway.

Agreed. I had an 84 Cutlass Supreme Brougham coupe. The only thing I would add is that I liked it better when the twin lamps weren't defined individually. Like in the changeover between the 86 Cutlass Supremes and the 87 Cutlass Supremes.

Don't get me started...

Anyone who thinks that the Scion tC, G6, 02-06 Camry & Cobalt

sedan do NOT have pretty much the same butt needs to get out

more... not tomention the Lucerne is a 2003 Maxima with a

waterfall grille.

Mr. Dart: I think Mercedes started the trend you're illustrating as far as decklid/taillight angles (was it the 190 or E-Class? I forget). What was the first domestic to copy it? Was it the 1992 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight? I agree it has become out of hand. And huge headlights are stupid.

Yes exactly.... even my dad comented to me in like 1988 or 1989 how

cool that trunklid looked on the late 80s Benzes... now everyone has

them and the design has stagnated.

I like certain huge headligths but then others suck. The super-skinny

ones of the mid 90s suck because the projecto is not big enough to

actually cast enough light, but now with silverstars etc. we don;t need

a lot of reflector surface area.

The worst headlights on the market right now are a tie between the

Honda Element/Ridgeline and a close second is the outgoing gen. of

the Lexus ES. WTF are they migrating towards the A-pillar? Were they

still cooling off when the Lexus Quality Control took the car down the

highway at 95mph and they melted and ran up the fender from the

force of the wind???

What's up with giving cars huuuuuge hips that make even 17" wheels look small? Think Passat, '02 Camry, Avalon, M3/45 for this affect.

Yeah, having them squint out from either side of a heavy eggcrate grille with a big ol' gold bowtie in the center (CAMARO!) would be so much better than the atomic teardrops that cover more area than the entire hood of a Sienna. Edited by ocnblu

Yep. These ones are so big they make a luxury car look small:
