Cars your parents owned..

Be it fond memories or helping your dad keep the hunk of junk running, what cars/trucks do you remember mostly from your youth that your parents owned?

I remember my dad's 84 Sierra Classic, 76 Ford Maverick coupe, 89 Chevy S-10 Blazer and my mom's 75 Ford Maverick Sedan.

EDIT: We also had an 85? Oldsmobile Cutlass, but I remember me and my brother bitching about having to close the big doors. Other than that it was a great car and my mom loved it.

Mom had a baby blue on baby blue '79 Monte Carlo with the 229 V6, and then the replacement triple yellow 4100-powered '85 Eldorado. The hood ornament got stolen three times!

Dad had a buncha stuff:

-1977 Ford F150, red and white, no idea on the motor, but probably a 351W or something

-1974 International Harvester 500, ex-New England Telephone utility truck he painted red and used for his welding business

-1952 Chevrolet 1/2-ton pickup, red, owned since he was 15 years old, started life out as a rotted out forest green on black ex-plumber's truck with a 216 that went through various incarnations until it finally ended up bright red with a crate 350 and a '73 Grand Prix rear end. My first ever automotive-related job was tearing out the rotted bed wood in this truck at the beginning of its second restoration when I was about five or six.

-1935 Ford 1 1/2-ton dump truck, used to be a tow truck but the wrecker body was gone when my father came to own it, bought on a whim for $250 and turned into a three year frame-off restoration project. Original 21-stud flathead was junk and replaced with a later 24-stud 59AB flathead (the 100-horsepower one!), maroon with black fenders and dump body; very sharp!

-1987 GMC Sierra Classic 1500, willed to him in 1990 when his father passed away, started out as cream over copper over cream, but was redone in the mid 90's to solid copper. Finally traded in in February of 2001 on his new 2000 Silverado on its second 350 with 216,000 miles.

He also owned an ex-Army Corps of Engineers 1955 Byers 20-ton crawler crane. 50-foot boom, twin drums with lagging. I know it's not a car or truck, but I spent many an hour one summer oiling the chains and scraping rust on it, among other various tasks. The original Hercules straight six gas engine was seized and a very early 3-71 Detroit out of a crane mounted on the back of a 1947 GMC cabover was put in its place. Was eventually sold to (and is still working at) a sawmill up in Vermont.

It will take me a while to make up a list. I would guess we owned at least 50 different cars when I was younger.

A few off the top of my head are:

63 Chrysler - My dad always use to say it the car he was going to give me when I was old enough to drive.

70s Cadillac conv. - there was no switch to put the top up and down, only wires that you had to touch together.

63 Impala - which my brother still owns, he bought it from my dad about 10 years ago.

52 Chevy Deluxe - fiberglass tilt nose with a 327, it weighed 3000lbs.

66 Chevy pickup - This truck was the donor of the 327 for the 52 Chevy. I think the engine was originally from a Camaro or Chevelle though.

67 Chevelle - the car I begged my dad to give me but he said it was too fast for me.

67 Olds 442 - I liked this car also, but not as much as the Chevelle.

78, 79, and 80 Malibu - my dad did a v8 swap for each.

Theres alot more, but I cant remember them off the top of my head.

They are all gone, and instead we now have:

68 Dodge Dart

62 Bel Air

73 Chevelle

63 Nova conv

63 Nova coupe

32 model A - completely custom, my dad made the body and frame.

and soon we may have a 68 Tempest.

I don't even remember all the cars we own right now.

Wow, so many cool vehicles here so far. My list is very mundane compared to the rest, but I'll take a turn:

'66 Malibu SS 396 4 speed. Marina Blue.

'69 Malibu 307 automatic, he kept it about a year. Light blue.

'71 Malibu 350 4 speed. Silver. Stolen. Wrecked. Recovered.

'78 Malibu coupe 200 cid V6, 3 speed on floor. Crap Brown.

Those were dad's. Mom's:

'69 Charger SE 318. Triple gold.

'69 Corvette. Yellow 4 speed.

'63 Star Chief (?) coupe. Torquoise.

'66 Montclair sedan. Maroon.

'72 Malibu 307 coupe. Brown. Black buckets.

Well... I will not get into all the Skodas, Volgas, Ladas & Tatras

that my family & frineds owned back in Slovakia but once we

immigrated to the USA in 1987 my nuclear family was kind of

poor. My dad always beleived in having newer cars, bought new

but they were always the lowr end of the totem pole.

- NEW 1989 Cavalier RS sedan (silver/red/black Tri-Tone inside & out)

- NEW 1991 Cavalier coupe (baby blue)

- (used 2nd car) 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme 3800 (TT blue)

- NEW 1993 Oldsmobile Achieva S sedan (medium blue)

- ("program car") 1994 Pontiac Sunbird (white)

- ("program car") 1997 Pontiac Grand Am SE 3.1 V6 (green 4dr)

- NEW 2001 Pontiac Grand Am 4dr (GT1, loaded w/ EVERY option) Galaxy Silver

- NEW 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt coupe (blue)

Now you see why I rebeled and said NEVER AGAIN! to cheap

4-cylinders & FWD. HATE 'em. I buy high milage used stuff and

fix it up... but I buy cars that were something special back in

the day: Cadillacs, Oldsmobiles & my recent Infiniti purchase.

XP: post photos of thatr Crawler Crane... that thing was awsome!

I remember looking over Dad's shoulder at the red Indian Head high beam indicator in our '70 Catalina 4-dr sedan, Pepper Green with the 400. Had it until '80. I don't recall his earlier iron: '63 Catalina 4-dr hardtop, '62 Chevy Biscayne 2-dr sedan.

I have one memory of his father's gold '72 Gran Ville 4-dr hardtop, 455-powered, gliding by in his driveway. A '76 replaced it, tho I don't recall that one. The '78 Sedan deVille that came next I recall very well.

My mother's mom had a '64 Rambler American 2-dr sedan I can dimly recall, tho the '72 Super Beetle that followed it is easier. It was the '76 Seville that really made an impact, tho.

I am a 3rd generation multiple Pontiac owner; grandfather: 7, father: 3, me: 7.

My parents had a nack, and still do, for buying crap and selling the good ones.

1968 Camaro SS/RS which was traded in for $200

1972 Vega, suprisingly one of their more reliable cars along the way

1977 Mazda rotory wagon which provided many memories of sitting on the side of the road waiting for help

1977 toyota corolla, not a bad car and provided little issue though I do remember thinking it was cheap crap as a kid because it had vinyl floors and vinyl seats

1980 Datsun 210 which also provided more than enough memories of sitting on the side of the road waiting for help and was the most hated cars of my childhood

1985 GMC Safari, our most beloved family car as a kid that my Dad wrecked

1984 Ford Thunderbird that I hosed on when I was 17. I've never experienced a car with more electrical problems

1988 Cutlass Supreme, my lesson on why not to buy the 1st year, but still a great car to drive. Everything a teenager could do to a car, my brother and I did to this one.

1992 Saturn SC2 fun but too many rattles

1988 Volvo 765 Turbo, probably my Mom's most loved car which my brother flipped on the highway at 60 mph (typical Volvo they didn't even have a scratch)

1990 Volvo 745 Turbo, bought used with some issues

1992 Volvo 780 Turbo, same as 1990 745 Turbo

1996 Plymouth Voyager, great lease deal to get out of 780 Turbo

1998 Silhouette which was sold to my brother and ran great until 115,000 miles when they were ready for something new

2000 Regal LSE, beautiful and flawless

2003 Rendevzous which they still have and would keep if gas wasn't so high (they are looking at hybrids :( )

2005 scion xa, bought because GM doesn't have any cars that get in the high 30s on their EPA ratings. This one already has alot of sqeeks moans an groans and they baby it.

In chrono order, with some overlaps and some ownership out of sequence:

65 Chevrolet Impala coupe - small block V8, either 283 or 327 ???

70 Pontiac Le Mans coupe - 250 inline 6, MOST RELIABLE OF THE LIST

76 Olds Cutlass Supreme coupe - 350 Rocket V8 *

76 Buick Regal coupe - 231 c.i. (3.8 liter) V6

76 Olds Omega coupe - 260 Rocket V8

80 Buick Century Limited sedan - 231 c.i. (3.8 liter) V6

84 Olds Cutlass Supreme Brougham coupe - 231 c.i. (3.8 liter) V6 *

My dad passed away in 98 and probably didn't drive the last 4 years of his life.

* = hand-me-down

This is GM loyalty at its best -- my dad grumbled at the mention of Ford or Chrysler.

Well when I came around Mom and Dad had a Ford Pinto station wagon, traded it in after a wreck, bought a 1986 Chevrolet Celebrity wagon 2.8L V6, great car, never had any problems, only needed motor mounts when we sold it to the next door neighbor in 1996 as her son's first car. Next as a 1997 Buick Century, good car, but apparently crapped a transmission during ownership. They now have a 2003 Chevrolet ZR5 crew cab 4wd S10, great truck.

My vehicles are the 1976 Chevy pickup (history behind it is in the reader's rides section), my 1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE2 coupe (totalled) and my current 2001 Chevrolet Impala LS.

The wife has had a 1999 Suzuki Grand Vitara (totalled), bought a 2001 VW Beetle diesel (traded) and is now leasing a 2005 Cobalt.
