So today around 2pm I gave XP a ride to work after he put the

Cutlass on my front lawn with a for sale sign. We notice that

there's a '97/'98 Honda Accord in the parking lot at Dounkin

Donuts in Drum Hill Chelmsford with what looks like a broken

tie-rod, I pulled in to investigate and this is what I saw.

I laughed and took the photos as I asked the kid WTF happened,

he says "it just let go as I turned the wheel... the axle slipped

right out & the suspension just snapped" As I walked away I

said lound enough for him to hear... "Gotta love those Hondas,

next time go for RWD." Then I got inside my RWD Q45 and drove

away laughing my @$$ off as I told XP what I said to the kid.

Ah, I feel warm inside when I see that photo. Nothing better than an 'effed up Honda or Toyota to make your day.

Oh, and: Honda ATVs < Honda Cars

Posted

That's what Honda SHOULD build... ATVs, generators & 929RRs.

All of their ATVs and Bikes, subsequently are RWD. It's just

their cars that suck so god dang consistently.

I was rounding the corner on my way home the other day and I saw an early 1990's Caravan with the same problem. It looked like the whole steering knuckle broke off at the ball joints. :stupid: The guy inside was busily chatting away on his cell phone so I figure he was either calling for help or oblivious to the problem and wondering why he wasn't going anywhere.

That reminds me...an insurance salesman stopped by our house one day and, during a conversation he had with my mom, he told of this...incident where he was working at a local car dealership called Freedom Dodge. He had just sold a brand new early '90s model Caravan to a woman. She drives off the lot in her new car, happy, and, at this four-way intersection, the whole front suspension broke down.

Not from the driver's seat... I got out to take the photo.

See the black Q45 in the background? That's my ride.

Also, note XP's smirk... damn that kid needs a haircut. :P

My Datsun Roadmonster may be an import but at least

the rear axles are a bit more sturdy than a bread stick

from the Olive Garden.

Sixty8, does the mother of your child know you're giving rides to hot chicks? Who is that in the Infiniti's passenger seat, hmmmmm?

The Accord owner will probably go to the dealership, have a Fit, then eventually get over it.

Speaking of Honda, we were constanly using it as an scenario in management class (I'm taking a course on strategic management technology). They claim that Honda is successful in a way that their engine technology is sophisticated, as it's used on pretty much you can think of.

I could almost burst out laughing when I think of the Si's engine, and someone else in class is challenging that as well.

Y.D. There's truth in what you're saying of course...

but c'mon look at this car... does it look like he goes

up to the Dragway and then goes curb hopping? The

over all condition of the car did not make it look like

it had anything over 100,000. The paint looked

original but not very worn or faded.

For what it's worth as much as I have disdain for

FWD I have owned and driven a few high milage ones

and beat the ever living piss out of several in my

attempt to blow them up and this has never happened

even with my near 200K mile demolition derby Fords

& Mazdas.

Let's be real here, Honda makes light weight stuff

and is stingy with steel/aluminum and often times

makes a flimsy car. Their cars suck for a lot of

reasons and this is a big example of that. You hear

about this kind of thing happening on a Honda on

occcasion but never a GP/GTP or a Park Ave.

What was funny is I high fived XP when I got back

inside the Q45 and yelled "JDM yo!" to which he

responded with:

"guess that cone filter was a little too much!" :rotflmao: :booyah::smilewide:

I was wearing a T-shirt with 3 1st gen. Camaros on it

and XP knows a few of the people that were there.

I was just showing my hate for Honda, nothing else. :P

I've always figured those aftermarket XM setups to be rather chintzy. Check out the antenna on that Accord.

Funny you made this thread Sixty, my girlfriend has a 98 Accord with about 110K on it....and was making a metal against metal sound while in motion since she bought it in December with 103 on it.....she needed a new front axle....and then the new axle had to be replaced because it was worse than the old one <_<

and now the car is having an interesting problem where when you start it, its hesitates to run, and also at times you can give it gas, it'll stuck bucking and then the RMP's take off and you start doing a 0-60 dash

This Accord is proving to be a real POS...

This Accord is proving to be a real POS...

Sounds about right.

If I was not an upright citizen I'd recomend the following fix:

1. Break open the steering column with a flathead & hot wire it

2. Drive it to the nearest rail-road tracks

3. Park it on the RR tracks around a sharp corner at about 3am

4. Go home and sleep untill 6am

5. Report the car stolen

6. File Police Report & insurance paperwork

7. Collect $5000 check (it's a HON-duh.... KBB/NADA is high)

8. Buy a non-Honda (preferably GM) vehicle

9. Enjoy lack of grinding noise while driving :D

You know, I've seen that problem primarly on DCX products and Honda products more so than any other make, FWD or not. I dunno what it is about their front suspension and drive axle assemblies that are just so chinzy, but they always seem to do such interesting things as in your picture. I'm saying that from a parts guy's perspective, I sell more front suspension parts and axles for DCX stuff and Hondas than anything else.

I know... it's plain inexcusable IMO.

Honda is such an over rated car, it

really saddens me to see Civics

flying off dealership lots when the

Cobalt is 10x the value.

Z28lvr:

that took me a minute... XM via D.D.

"time to make the donuts"

By the looks of that tire the guy doesn't do regular maitenance, he prolly has 1 mill km and the ball joint has been gone for years..

Who knows.. but by the looks of a tire down to the wear bars, the guy puts off maitenance! Just had to say it, Honda quality is good, not bulletproof. All cars are the same to me minus Kia and Volkswagen.. capital J!

Well I guess that pretty much makes you a jerk. :nono::P

Well I guess that pretty much makes you a jerk.  :nono:  :P

I can't speak for your particular part of the world

but here in my neck of the woods Import drivers,

esp. Honda fans are always making "that

particular problem does not occur in Hondas &

Acuras" comment. They're the jerks who give

you the finger after they cut you off and many

times if you're on the side of the road with your

hazards on (like when your 68 Camaro throws a

fanbelt) they do juvenile things like a 2nd gear

salute as they drive by you. Not always but often

enough.

If you knew me as a person and not just on the

internet you would not condem me for this. For

all the times I've done something like this I've

been a good samaritan a hundred others.

Like the time a POS (FWD) Lincoln Continental

ate a radiator by the Wang tower in Lowell and I

gave the guy a tow to the nearest parking lot

with my Blazer using some chain from my

demolition derby car and then a ride home even

though it was like 20 miles out of my way. It was

like 2am and he was an older gentleman so I

helped him out. I didn't tell him he should have

bought a RWD car... time & place you know.

I'm almost never a jerk, if once in a blue moon I

laugh at some bland-import-transport-pod driving

yuppie kid from Chelmsford's misery it's only for

therapudic reasons.

Sixty, you are the most ironic person I've ever known.

I aim to confuse... sometimes it's fun to see

people cock their head to the side like a dog. :AH-HA_wink:

hahaha

if thats the car I'm thinking it is, I know the kid who drives it. From the looks of the car (if its the same one I'm thinking it is), he probably doesnt even have springs in the car it sits so low to the ground..... RICERRRRR

and Silvester isnt a bad person, believe me. we all like to make fun of imports once and a while though :-)

Everytime I look at that photo it makes me laugh... even now 3 days

later.

"We all" I intended to mean Silvester (Sixty8panther), Ross (XP715), and myself.... and anyone else who agrees!

Hey Penguin:

All us GM freaks aside how many people do you know

that could resist laughing at such a ridiculous sight.

The Honda looks like it's courtseying! It's silly and to

a weirdo like me it's hilarious. ^_^
