PLANO, Texas, Oct. 2, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) today reported September 2018 sales of 203,098 units. With one less selling day in September 2018 compared to September 2017, sales were down 6.8 percent on a daily selling rate (DSR) basis and down 10.4 percent on a volume basis.

"Toyota's seen record light trucks sales for the first nine months of the year, led by the Tacoma and Highlander, both strong leaders in their segments," said Jack Hollis, group vice president and general manager, Toyota division. "Our alternative fuel vehicle leadership remains strong as our hybrids gained double-digit growth in the Camry Hybrid, Avalon Hybrid, Prius Prime and Mirai models."

Lexus posted September sales of 24,597 units, down 2.3 percent on a DSR basis and down 6.1 percent on a volume basis.

"We have built on our success during the first half of the year with a strong third quarter thanks to three percent growth in our luxury utility vehicles and a 115 percent jump in our flagship LS sedan," said David Christ, group vice president and general manager, Lexus division. "The all-new Lexus ES sedan is off to a remarkable start, and we are looking forward to the addition of the UX compact LUV, which will introduce younger buyers to the Lexus brand starting in December."

Sales numbers might be down, but amazed at how much Metal is still moving especially for the dead brand of Scion or is that all considered Yaris sales now? @William Maley

That is added into the various Toyota models that have taken the place of the Scion.. So iA is folded into Yaris iA, iM into Corolla Hatchback, and FR-S into 86.

They still make the Lexus GS?

Obviously the Rav4 and Camry are what pay the bills at Toyota.  But 11,000 Tundras is unacceptable.  That truck is dated and uncompetitive and wasn't even that great when new.  Not being more competitive in the highest profit margin segment is pathetic really.  They should easily be selling 30,000 Tundras a month if they had a better truck, they put out a new Camry every 4-5 years the Tundra is like 10 years old.  They need to go into those deep pockets and make a Tundra that can steal sales off the F150.  Even FCA with no money comes up with a Ram truck that does really well, Toyota has $53 billion in cash, yes $53 billion in cash, and a crappy full size truck.

Yep. They still make the A8, too.

Rare as hens teeth in these parts...but I did see an A8 on the road the other day.

Sure, but it likely could have been any one of a half dozen model years.

I am seeing more A8 and Lexus Ls than Continentals on the road.

Yeah...but I almost never see a Conti on the road, at least not a new one. Drove to North Carolina and back twice without seeing a single one on the road.

And while I might not like Ford, i would damned sure rather look at a Conti than the bland sea of Nissan and Toyota SUV's that seem to litter our road ways.

Seattle you see a ton of A8's on the Road, I have yet to see a Conti in the wild here. Course German, Asian and GM is the core of what you see here except for the over abundance of F150, Ram, Chev & GMC trucks everywhere.

Exactly. Balthazar was talking about Edsel getting the plug pulled when it was on target to sell 14,000 units a year....Conti will be below that.

I've seen 4 or 5 Contis that I've noticed, but modern stuff seldom blips my radar. I'm sure there's been a bunch more. They look good, IMO.

They ahve grown on me a bit but still don't really like them that much.  The market apparently does not either.

The Conti sells terrible and mostly due to the cramped interior space. That car sucks for comfort of space inside. Even with average people in the front, big people cannot get in the back. I like the looks of the Conti, but the space restrictions inside is a deal breaker. I suspect many others also find the interior to be way too tight for a car that size. Plus majority of people want a CUV weather they need it or not.

I do think the Lincoln design language works much better with the CUV/SUV thing going on. It just seems to flow much better IMHO.

But yes, even the Avalon has a much better interior layout than the Conti.

But seriously....Lincolns flagship sedan sales are like 6 or 7 % of what they were in 1998 when they were at the top of the world and outselling Cadillac. They are not coming back.

20 years ago, the traditional full size luxury sedan market was in decline..GM had just cancelled the Buick Roadmaster and Cadillac Brougham in '96, the Town Car was still playing to an aging and shrinking demographic.   The luxury SUV market was small and on the rise--Lincoln Navigator, Lexus LX, one Range Rover model, and the Germans were just getting started.    Lots of market change over the last 20 years.

Agree completely. The current Conti is something that should have come around a long time ago.
