Cummins PowerDrive

Take a class 6 truck powered with a hybrid powertrain and you end up with 50 miles of pure electric range and 300 miles of hybrid range for a 350 mile combined driving with 80% reduced emissions and 40 to 80 percent reduced fuel cost. At the 2018 IAA Commercial Vehicle Show, Cummins teamed up with Kenworth to show off the new Kenworth T370 Service truck. This is the most versatile hybrid system on the market today. The cummins PowerDrive system replaces conventional transmissions and switches in real time between two Hybrid and two electric modes. This optimizes the powertrain for the best fuel economics in any driving situation. The truck also comes configured with exportable grid quality electric power to recharge quickly EVs and a recovery crane operating either off electric or engine power.

Cummins has tested this powertrain for more than 6 million miles in China and the US. They will be introducing it in the future in Europe. The powertrain is available immediately for purchase from Cummins in China and the US.

This brings up an interesting question, are we at the start of the death of transmission?
