If chrome door handles makes a vehicle 'blingy', everything built from 1930 thru 2000 must've been too.
That thin slice of brightwork doesn't budge the needle.

That GLS door handle surround looks like it's straight out of JC Whitney (they still around??). I can see the double-sided tape from here.

You can get the inserts all over Ebay.

The XTS is focused at a very different customer... the ones who still long for the old DTS... and it is still one of the better selling Cadillacs.  There is no guarantee that those customers would move over to the more expensive CT6.

Aren't those customers in the old people's home yet? :P

And driving the XTS, it's a pretty nice car to me.....

They sure can pass those other two up. They just have to start with the small things. Start by making the most reliable vehicle, hands down. Do what Toyota and Honda have done and build a reputation for being indestructible. They can then go from there. They know how to make a car handle with the best, if not THE best. They have engines to hang with the best, albeit their middle tier isn't really the greatest in comparison but they're getting there with the 3.0TT.

They have the money and resources to make the best interiors, they just haven't yet. If they're going to price their stuff along side the Germans they better do everything at the very least, as good as the Germans.

Get rid of the old man XTS also. That rental car doesn't help their image at all.

Well, Chevy already is proving that....(bragging on tv no less) Being solid is a given.....

Maybe a bit old school.....make em fun to drive...(and less about comparing them to others)

Throw a bit of Vette in them......:D Bring on the future, but flash that past (good stuff) a little bit....I little bit crazy (a la dodge-some wild ads)

Going "euro" failed them-time go home grown......

There's just as much chrome on the new ones. I took pictures of one in our garage at work yesterday and everything that isn't body color is chrome. No, thank you.

So my question then is, do you have that same objection to Mercedes, Lincoln, and Jaguar?

Or, get a load of this:

The production version is expected to look a lot like that.

That looks absolutely terrible in so many way.

If they all had chrome everything, yes. Cadillac was the only one offering chrome wheels, door handles, fake vents, and mirrors(okay, the arm extending out, not the entire mirror).

I don't think Mercedes, BMW, Audi, or Land Rover even offered chrome wheels. Some probably ad chrome grilles but I think most were either body color or satin. The Navigator is the only other one on par with the ridiculous amount of chrome.

It would be nice to have a chrome option for those that want it otherwise Monochromatic for the rest of us that want a luxury auto without all the Bling affect.

Completely agree. Plus, it'd be another package to make more money off of.

ccap41 :: So it's not the amount of contrasting trim, it's the finish. You don't like chrome, correct?

I could go for a Black Chrome package where the only items are the roof rack, cadillac grill and rims. The rest would be monochromatic painted.

I just think too much chrome is over flash of blingy and it seems we have gone back into a baby boomer more chrome better the auto thinking.

But seriously, It is a very smooth and well mannered car to drive.....

It's more the amount of chrome rather than just chrome itself.

Wheels and grille are okay, depending on the style of each.. A thick and large grille can be gaudy(the Escalade and F150 come to mind here - Denalis do chrome grilles very well). Then adding in the fake fender vents, door handles, window trim, running boards, and mirrors/mirror arms is just over the top.

Absolutely perfect and almost exactly what I just described.

I can go either way on chrome in a vehicle.  It really depends on the vehicle in question.  I like the Escalade's looks and think it's amount of Chrome is fine.  I think the Denali is a bit over the top, but I'd still drive it.  I do not like the 2017 Silverado's chrome at all, I think it is gaudy, I only like the Silverado in Z71 trim where most (all?) of the chrome is converted to body color.  I'm not a big fan of the '17 Sierra's chrome, it's not gaudy, it's just not attractive.  In this truck, I prefer the All-Terrain model which blacks out the grill and uses a body color surround.

I don't mind the chrome on any of the F-150 models.  My favorite F-150 is the King Ranch, but any of them suit me in styling.

The Ram I definitely prefer with body-color trim. I think the big blingy Limited is over the top and tacky from the exterior, though I really like the interior. The chrome on the regular old Big Horn is fine though.

I agree with pretty much all of that.

All of the D3's chrome trims are over the top to me though. The Denali is the only one that it seems the most acceptable even though I think they add things like door handles and mirrors that I'd want body color.

I agree with @ccap41 the Escalade is too blingy, too much chrome for my taste as well.  Couple years ago some friends looked into getting a full size luxury SUV and I recommended to them to take a look at Escalade.  The reply was: we are not rappers :)

I'm sure there are those out there that find satin-y trim just as disagreeable.

This has the same listed items in chrome: door handle, mirrors, running boards, grille, wheels... but it looks perfectly tasteful IMO :

Personally I feel the Escalade looks fairly awesome as built.

Nope, I don't like that. Mirrors, handles, door trim and window trim are too much for my tastes. It does help that this trim paints the bumper covers as opposed to leaving those chrome as well, like lower trims. But they swap the bumpers for door handles, mirrors, window trim, and door trim...

Dirty chrome is the same as satin-y trim. :roflmao:

Just trying to get a handle on your objection, ccap- got it now.

Personally, I'd take the black one of the two above., tho the difference is not huge.
This gen Silverado's nose is really 'jigsawed' IMO- too many pieces, and the chrome ties it together a little better.

Of the current generation of Silverado, I like the '14-15 nose better than the front after the MCE..it got too busy, IMO..

This I like...

I miss the simplicity of the older truck front ends... I like these---simple, clean, no cheese.

Yet so many people fork over big money to the Sport Jocks that drive the Escalades and they are not rappers, so I figure America wants to drive what the over paid Sport Jocks drive. :P
