Uhhh yeah... what redeeming qualities does a Camaro or Wrangler offer a daily driver over any sedan or CUV? They ride like $h! and have little to no storage in comparison.

Camaro and Mustang actually ride really nice. I like either of them for a long distance drive.  Wrangler takes its top off, which I'm told can be fun.  The Raptor has at least the abilities that any other truck offers. In any case, for G-Wagon money, I can buy a Camaro, Mustang, Wrangler, and Raptor and still have money left over to fuel all of them for a few years

I'm just saying why there's a possibility that a reflector may have two different screws because it was an auto show car, not at a dealership.

That would be true if it was a concept auto being shown but you know as well as I that the majority of the auto's are production auto's off the local dealership lots for the show.

As such, the auto should be tight, and not able to have the screws come loose or lost between the dealership lot, the auto show and people getting in and out of them.

If the mismatched screw is from the dealership, then that speaks volumes about the dealership and one I would want to avoid.

I don't recall which show those pictures came from.  If it was Chicago or LA, the car was probably provided by the largest local dealer.  If it was Detroit or NYC, it was probably provided by Benz.   In either event, the cars go through pre-show prep before they go on the floor.  Only the brand new releases for the show are always provided by the manufacturers.

But who knows? Maybe they put a 1997 G-Wagon on the floor and there was no way I could tell because I didn't have a VIN decoder handy.

So if we're talking about their abilities then we can talk about the off road abilities of the G then, right? For daily driving as most adults have their own places to live a G is a more practical vehicle than a Camaro or Mustang as their lone vehicle. You likely will not be able to fit any form of furniture(be it just some shelving or a small bookcase) in a Mustang or Camaro, they're obviously only RWD so you'd better be buying a second set of tires to have put in and off every year(I wouldn't care as that would be a good time to check out some stuff on the car pre and post winter snows).

This is true.  The cars are prepped before they go on the floor and I am on the floor on the first day the show is open.  General peasent public days, yes, the cars get messed up... and there is usually at least one mishap during press days (I got pics of the previous generation Lincoln MKZ catching on fire on the floor).

But that's just not the case for the G-Wagon.  It wasn't new, people weren't crawling over it. It is mostly ignored.

$100k (G-wagon minus the cost of a nice Mustang) buys a LOT of furniture delivery.  Heck, $40k (G-wagon minus an Escalade ESV Platinum) buys a decent F-150 to haul your furniture home in, and then you're getting TWO vehicles that have nicer interiors and more up to date powertrains.

And I have a second set of tires for my CR-V and Encore also, and they're AWD.

@Drew Dowdell

So is the GV80 supposed to be the size of the XT5 from Cadillac?

That would then put the GV70 as an XT3 competitor and Driving web site is saying Genesis is now also wanting to do a luxury compact so GV60 or GV50?

http://driving.ca/genesis/auto-news/news/hyundais-genesis-division-wants-to-build-a-compact-cuv

Genesis-GV80-Concept-SUV.jpg

Have to say I like the looks of this, very modern for the 21st Century so I hope they stay true to this concept. I really like it in Silver more than the white pearl color they showed off at the auto show.

Not sure why @ccap41 you keep arguing.   Today G-wagen is the status symbol, period.  Nobody who buys it will be moving furniture or taking it off road.

Every G-wagen owner I saw was either an assh@le with too much money or a trophy wife with and assh@le husband that has too much money,

The GV80 comparison to the XT5 is only approximate.  It looks as big on the outside as the XT5, but with packaging like that, it'd have to be smaller inside.  The XT5 has a very short pug snout while the GV80 is long.

And yes on the smaller luxury crossovers, the whole industry is chasing that space right now and it's relatively new segment, so Genesis would be wise to get in at the start.

I wish I was either further south or further north because we get just enough snow to necessitate at least an all season tire(or no season) because it gets plenty cold for months at a time but not really enough snow to justify a good winter set.

Saw a lot of G-wagens around Phoenix and Scottsdale...around town luxury cars, always clean and polished..probably never went off road.  Always seemed to be black or silver.   Much the same with all the other luxury SUVs...

We've moved furniture in one. We will do quite a bit of that with new home ownership.

I’m sorry but did he just compare the ride of two cars, that have been complimented for their rides, to a 4 decade old box on wheels? Seriously? Is he just arguing to argue? I fail to see a real point here otherwise.

EXACTLY!! Not one of those drivers around here take those off road, not one! Now, I know there will be the “well most SUV drivers don’t go off road”. Well, they are idiots for it since that is one of its primary functions. Don’t opt for a Wrangler when an Edge will do. The G Wagon is a massive rip off made for elitist suckers, end of damn discussion.

Totally agree, Here you can rent a 10 foot truck for $19.95 a day, unlimited miles. Pretty good deal, did this for moving my son. Faster and cheaper than using a G-Wagon or my Escalade.

Interesting read, so another company copies the American route of mid size auto between a lower and higher level one. So this is to compete against the ATS, BMW 3 series, etc. longer and wider but less room inside. Weird.

Everybody just loses their car enthusiast touch when they come into contact with a vehicle brand why don't like?  We all love the irresponsible vehicles, this is another one. Nobody dreams of 100-200k sports cars? So what this is overpriced. So is a Mclaren and Ferrari. Any luxury branded car ever created is overpriced when you could build some mustang or camaro for cheaper and daily drive a Camry for practicality.

Yeah for 5k I could go buy a CRV and it would "get the job done". I'd also never consider a 2 door sports car because those are too impractical. C'mon guys. All the brand biases aside, it's a cool vehicle that's as old school as they come these days that, if the owner would ever choose to, can do some serious off-roading.

Speaking of sh!t... H2? They have one of those that her parents drive daily.. biggest POS. I never would have expected it to be a GM product because it's constantly having problems either dying or not starting. It almost seems German under the hood.

G-wagen is a good vehicle.  Probably the most capable off road SUV on sale right now, for sure it is on the 4x4 squared model.  I think it is one of two 12 cylinder SUVs for sale also if you want that.  The G-wagen had its best sales year ever in 2016 and is up in 2017, so they are building what the people want.

Hopefully it is a good car, and a fun to drive car.  It doesn't have the interior as good as the Germans though, you can already tell from the photos it is closer to a Mazda 6 interior than a C-class or A4.  As if they know they have to sell at a discount so they will cut corners somewhere.  If they price this car aggressively I think it could do well, if that turbo V6 is $40k and it comes down to a G70 or a 4 cylinder ATS, C-class or A4, that is a compelling argument for Genesis.

And since it is G-wagen day, I'll say that the GLE is no doubt better daily driver and probably has more cargo room too.  But you aren't a baller in Beverly Hills without that G-wagen.

to the bolded part. So one lemon.. and it happens is indicative of a while truck line that has sold millions upon millions when the platform was alive? Ridiculous

But then... their hummer at minimum is 8 years old. H2 stopped production in '09. If they've replaced their alternator TWICE.. the second part was faulty too.. and very seldom have I ever heard of anyone taking their vehicle to a dealership for a tranny rebuild.. so the tranny rebuild must have been bad. Missing how that is an H2 issue

As far as me having the Camaro as a DD.. yeah.. it was my daily driver from August 2010 to July 31 2013 when I got my Impala DD. I don't kno if U kno but I had a Tahoe at the time before I got my Yukon.. If I needed to move anything larger I brought that.
