Honda Loses Insight; Relays Future Hybrid Insight

Posted Image

Honda has announced they are dropping the Insight hybrid. It's just as well as it's pretty much the most impractical hybrid ever made. A compact, two-setaer whose only goal is to save gas and to hell with anything else doesn't seem to have a wide appeal. Production ends in Septemeber and it's replacement will not appear until 2009.

It accomplished its goal, which is to be the most fuel efficient mass production car. Its replacement will probably be the new Fit with a hybrid powertrain, or something along those lines. It will probably be cheaper too, under 20,000, since Honda is focusing on making their hybrid IMA system even cheaper to produce.

I'm not a fan of Honda... everyone here knows that

but I think the Insight had some redeming value.

It was honest and true to concept. Except for maybe

the EV1 the Insight is one of the best tree-hugger

approved personal transports. It had a mission

statement and it fufilled it, which is a lot more than I

can say for most of the Hondas from the last decade

or so... even the Accord & Civic have been sucking

more than average as of late.

I'd much rather see a ton of Insights on the road

versus the Element, Pilot, MDX & Ridgeline. :puke:

I'd rather see a ton of Insights on the road than just about any car, specially SUV's and Trucks.

Well... the beauty of the USA is that we have the right to

drive a Yukon XL or Cadillac EXT weather we need to or

not. Freedom is a beautiful thing.

I just hate FWD (or FWD-biased AWD) unibody vans

that pretend to be trucks. Plus all of the above are ugly

as sin and the polar opposite of form follows function.

Not the CX-7, at least IMO
