Okay, you guys knew it was eventually coming. We did a HP installment (of which there is still more coming, so stay tuned), one based on displacement, and several other various ones along the way, so it's only natural we do one based on cylinder count.

So with that, we will do the first one- the humble 4 cylinder. Disdained and mocked by many, 4 cylinder engines indisputably power some of the greatest cars ever built. From historic cars of unspeakable significance; to sport compact cars that punch above their weight class; to nimble off-roaders; to backroad, gravel trail, and road course  slaying terrors; everyone should be able to find something they like here.

So the rules-

1) These are your only vehicles.

2) Maximum of 5 choices.

3) Standard production models only.

4) Any era and market allowed.

5) Obviously- 4 cylinder engines only.

Have fun.

Ugh, nothing 4 banger did I ever fit in except the Chevy Luv Series 5 pickup truck. Isuzu 4banger with 4 on the floor.

That is it for me. :(

Hmm.....some fun cars..

BMW e30 M3.

Lotus Esprit Sport 300.

Lotus Exige

Porsche 356 speedster

and one practical car--a Mini Cooper Clubman JCW.

My list was strictly about fun and driving pleasure--avoided econoboxes and generics.   Maybe I could have included a luxury car like the current Volvo S90/V90.

1. 2018 Ford Mustang 2.3 liter 4 cylinder  Ecoboost with a rumored 350 HP and 350 ft.lbs torque and line lock standard.

2. 1999 Acura Integra Type R (or GS-R)

Id try and find an unmolested one. I hated these when they first came out. My cousin had one (GS-R 1999 and manual of course) and I gagged every time I saw it...which was daily. I drove it several times and in hindsight...over time...Ive come to realize I actually LOVE this...you know... revving that engine...and to be honest, I think its one of those rare MANUAL TRANSMISSION cars I enjoyed...because as you know...I also hate manuals...

3. I always seem to choose the Ford Fusion here, but the Malibu has intrigued me and it is newer and fresher...Ill go with the Malibu 2..0T Premier this time around!

4. Im soooooo in love with this car.  She is gorgeous. I cant afford the other sexy redheaded Italians, so this one shall do!

124-abarth-front.jpg

5. Cadillac ATS 2.0T

Yes I know....I have been severe on this car...well, I tried all kinds of google searches on what new 4 cylinder cars Id enjoy and the answer is none....

The Golf R is closest in what Id like. But VW aint for me. TOO Germanic.  The new Civic Type R...TOO fast and the furious boy racer...The 1999 Integra is the real deal so Im sticking with that. There is no 4 ylinder Audi that Id consider that I wouldnt get the VW version way before and I think I addressed my reasoning for no to VW...

No BMW other than the M2 and the M6 GC...and those arent 4 cylinder cars!

Cadillac ATS 2.0T it shall be!

This is why I dont like small cars...and Im only 5'6"!

But I also chose this vid because of your choice.

And I also love Jerry and Norm

3 for 1 deal!

Heh-heh...I'd probably have a hard time fitting in the Lotuses or the 356 w/ the top up...always liked them, though.  I know I can fit in a Miata (drove a 1st gen once).

LolOne right up my alley, I will have to think hard!

First and second, no brainier...Miata and Golf R...

I am going vintage for two of my choices...

Early split window VW beetle and an air cooled VW Bus, vintage restored.

Final car would be a Lotus Caterham Seven.

Love everyone else's choices...

I thought about doing an E30 M3 myself, but I wanted a newer 4 cylinder car and since I already had an older  classic(if you will) in the Acura Integra and (quite honestly) I did not feel like being a hypocrite in including a car that I have soooooooo been down on for about 20 years (because the Lord knows how I have openly bashed this particular  vintage Bimmer in real life and at Motor Trend Forums) so I decided to be a hypocrite on the Cadillac ATS.

It has ONLY been 2-3-4 years that I bash the ATS versus 20 years for the Bimmer and quite honestly, I have only bashed it in Cheers for Gears...

I'm kinda surprised the SRT4 and Evo didn't make someone's list.

IMHO there are better options.  Although my son has a friend with an SRT 4 that pushes 725 hp at the front wheels..

But you didn't see the Focus RS either...as there are better cars than that Also.
