Porsche News: Porsche Mission E To Cost Less than Panamera

Porsche's upcoming Mission E is an important vehicle for the brand and they want to give the best shot of succeeding. To do this, the German sports car builder is planning to price it to compete in a "segment below the Panamera".

This information comes to us from Porsche's chairman Oliver Blume. Speaking with Drive.com.au, Blume says the model will be offered in various power outputs (something akin to other Porsche models like the 911 and Cayenne).

"We're thinking of different options. There will be more than one model, with different levels of power." said Blume.

Considering the Panamera begins at $85,000, we wouldn't be surprised if Porsche prices the Mission E around the $65 to $75,000 mark.

Previously, Porsche has said the initial Mission E would have an output of 600 horsepower and a range of 300 miles.

Have to say this is the first Porsche that would make me want to consider buying one. I am excited that this will spawn a whole family of products. 2 & 4 door, convertible, etc.

Its an interesting design- I like the octa-eye headlights and the Cadillac-esque 'tear' down from them. The car also looks incredibly smooth… are these CGI pics?

Hey Balthazar, Yes these are the official released pics from Porsche.

Here are some actual real pics from the auto show and a video they posted to you tube.

I'm torn with this bit of news.

On the one hand, it's great that Porsche of all people is not going to price this thing exorbitantly where it only ends up in the hands of the rich. Allowing this technology to reach the masses is good to see.

On the other hand, the fact that this will be so cheap causes me to worry that the concept won't make it to production very intact. It would be a huge disappointment to see the car watered down from a styling/design standpoint.

I'm w/ @dfelt in that this is a Porsche I could see myself personally interested in. Especially if there are incentives it will qualify for.

^ wait.
'Less than the Panemera' (that starts at $78K) is not even an implication that it'll be priced "for the masses". In fact, the 'most affordable' Porsche starts @ $46K… which still is not 'priced for the masses'… and I will lay down money the production Mission E will be closer to $78K than $46K- meaning it'll start over $62K.

Assuming a starting price of 62Kish, which I totally don't doubt, that's only 2x as much as the average new car cost from 2015. For a Porsche. That will likely qualify for tax incentives. That's pretty obtainable for a very large group of people.

You are incorrect IMO, sir. Starting @ $62K means most on lot will likely be solidly over $70K, maybe $75K. Even if one gets $7500 off, you are still back to $63-68K (before taxes & fees). "Very large group" and "the masses" are still 2 different groups of consumers here.

Porsche only moved 6200 Boxster/Caymans in 2016- not exactly ingrained with the 'masses'.

Be that as is may, there's an even bigger gap between people who buy 60-75K cars and those who buy 1 million dollar 918's. :AH-HA:

I am not a fan of the duck billed platypus front end.  Porsche styling usually isn't for me, but I think the 911 has always looked decent, the 928, yuck, Boxster/Cayman, odd profile view, Panamera is a disaster.  The Carerra GT and 918 look fairly good, but these guys don't build pretty cars.  I'd be interested to see what the final version looks like when on sale, and will the base model have like 300 hp, and only the tippy top have 600.
