While everyone has been going gaga over the possible fruition of the mid-engine Corvette, there is another juicy Corvette just around the corner.

A spy photographer has gotten some up close photos of the next Corvette ZR1. Engineers have done their best to cover up the front, but there are some details that can be pulled out. First are the large vents on the bumper and a massive air intake. All of that air is needed if there is a 700 horsepower 6.2L supercharged V8 under the hood (according to rumor) along with massive brakes. We're guessing there is also some venting on the hood to provide additional cooling. The back features small uprights for a large rear wing (something that was captured in previous spy shots).

No word on when we could possibly see the next ZR1. Some think it could be the Detroit Auto Show in January. We'll be keeping a close eye.

Hope they used a bigger blower. Added resistance to overheating, a little bit of extra power, and some aggressive aero and rolling stock would make the Z06 the beast it could have been from the get go.

The Z06 can't get the power down as it is, adding more power to it doesn't make it better.  Corvette needs AWD and a 10-speed automatic and a better rear suspension.

Yeah that 10spd really helps it put more power down.. *rolls eyes*

A car with this broad of a torque curve and power band it could be a 3 spd and not have problems.

Maybe you aren't :unitedstates: but there is never enough V8 horsepower!

3525lbs w/ 650hp/650tq or

3625lbs w/ 503hp.

Which one sounds 'better'? The AMG GT S might be a beautiful car but the Vette has it's number. I'd wager the Grand Sport would run circles around the AMG GT S let alone the Z06 or upcoming ZR1.

I know it isn't a fair comparison but the Grand Sport beat the McLaren 570 around a lap at Lightning Lap and the AMG GT S was slower than the 570 at Best Driver's Car.

More power is good when the chassis can handle it and put the power on the ground so it can be used.  What is better, 707 hp in a Challenger or 420 hp in a Porsche 911?   I think the Corvette should top out around 575 hp, and have a base model with like 350 hp so it sticks to a reasonable price point.  Any GM product with over 600 hp should be a Cadillac.  GM needs to build a sports car above Corvette, rather than trying to make the Corvette a super car competitor and throwing 700 hp into a chassis that won't be able to do anything with it.

The AMG  GT S is pretty fast, there is a GT R now too that will do better on a track, but that car is easy to drive on a track from what all the reviews and tests show, and the AMG GT did win best drivers car in 2015.

Mercedes is making a 1,000+ hp hyper car, but they aren't making a 1,000 HP GT because that would be stupid and not in the cost range of a GT.
