Looks like it might be car buying time for me again over the summer... I'm a 19 yr old university student though so I don't have a huge budget... I'll probably get something between $4000 and $6500 Canadian... I've been looking around and have seen some decent prices on Cherokees, Impalas, Monte Carlos, Intrigues, Lincolns... etc.

How are older Caddy Devilles? I asked a while back about the 89-91ish generation and most people told me to generally avoid them. What about the 94 bodystyle?

There are great deals on these to, and they are definitely nice cars... I'm just not sure if they'd be a headache to own or not  .

Id recommend the intrigue, its been the best GM product we have ever had in terms of low operating cost. Total in the ammount of time that we have had the car (new in 2000 and it now has 105k miles) 1 new set of brakes and 1 new set of tires, oil changes every 5-6k miles with the oil light. This car took the lumps of me leraning how to drive and has had so many different drivers its rediculous. The 3.5 shortstar is very smooth gets good gas mileage and accelerates great. Car looks sleek especially in dark colors. For your money in the midsize you cant go wrong with the intrigue.

Oil changes cost more then your standard car because they take more then 5 quarts of oil.

Other then that, just the usual headaches associated with any overly gizmoed car.

As Oldsmoboi alluded to, with Northstars, expect a 7-7.5qt oil change every time. Make sure everything works - power antenna, load leveling, etc.
