So, after work today, I was looking to see for a batting helmet with a cage for my daughter and a baseball bat for my son.

The girls softball league this year requires a batting helmet with a cage while my son out grew his baseball bat. In April, I bought my daughter her very own softball bat...anyhoo, going in and out of various sports stores in my area to see who has what and what deals could be had before I collect my little rug rats after school to make the purchases with them....I finally do the last sports store. I get out of that sports store to finally head on home to pick them up when out of nowhere a fire red 1959/1960 Corvette sneaks up on me like a UFO and disappears in the horizon as fast as it appeared. The Vette driver wasnt going fast, its just that the path he chose was one where I couldnt follow and the traffic flow was in his favor. I did get a glimpse of it to know it was a show piece.

What a beauty!!!

OK...I get the kids and we are on our way to baseball & softball heaven.

"If you buy it, they will hit homeruns!"

$135 CDN later and we are heading home.

OK...traffic.

What was supposed to be a 5-10 minute drive ended up being a 45 minute pisser. An idiot in a Chevy Avalanche rear ended a Pontiac Transport.

So, to soothe the nerves of all of us, I play some music. Im in my wife's Fusion as its nice and clean while my Acura sits its turn to be washed again...I got the USB key thing going on and half way through this song:

A very nice lady in her 30s pulls up next to me in this beauty. Exactly like this. Her top was up, I wished her top was down...and I dont mean the car either!!!! :smilewide:

She was a beautiful girl. I smiled at her while at the same time I was trying to make my kids forget about the swear words they just heard on that song...

So I said..."Hey kids look at that nice car, isnt she beautiful!"

Well....the nice lady heard me say that so she laughed and winked at me...

That made my day....

So...As Im typing this, my damned kids are still up so I cant put the moves on their mother!!!

Anyway...what would you folk choose to ride in?

With these choices, and people knowing me would figure that this would be an easy choice for me to make.

But it aint easy.

On one hand, its between my all time favorite Vette...

and the other hand.. its quite an attractive Mercedes Benz SL550. Not the AMG version, but quite the machine non-the-less.

After many hours deliberating in the war room, mainly the bathroom....a locked bathroom door fantasizing about that wink....(not really just a joke....but the scenarios about how I came in contact with the cars is most absolutely true!!! Including another well timed song being played!!!)

I have concluded that the 1959/1960 Vette shall be my choice

The M-B SL550 just screams "beautiful trophy wife transportation" to me!

Any M-B SL convertible actually...

Ill play a little clip that stars the choice I made.

Vette... it will appreciate... the Benz will only depreciate.

While this is true.. you will hardly be able to drive the car if you're looking for appreciation.

And for that reason, I want the Benz. i want to be able to drive it whenever and wherever. This is also the era of Mercedes that I really started to like them across the board...

Honestly, I prefer the 1989 - 2002 SL over the 2008 model... the 2008 model just don't do it for me on looks.

Even better, because it is older, it's also cheaper....

I know that wasn't the criteria, but that's another reason for me not picking the '08 model.

For a 'vette, it would have to be a '63-67 for me...coupe or convertible.   For a Merc SL, maybe a late 70s 450SL in red w/ camel interior...with the huge US spec bumpers.

I don't even think its necessary for me to answer this.. its a no brainer. The Vette can easily be worth almost $200K in decent condition as long as its original numbers... $90K+ if it isn't. U can get that SL550 for what I have in my 12 year old kids savings account, and she would still have money left over to buy a second one and gas it for a 2-3 years. 2n83frs.jpg

Vette appreciation vs one of the fastest depreciating brands I can think of. U can find a 2013 SL550 (sold for $100K) for under $50K right now with miles under 20K.

A Corvette of that era could be $200k, so you could get McLaren-Mercedes SLR for that money.

I would take the 2008 SL550 though, would be better if it had the V12 or AMG engine, but 2008 was the last time the SL looked good, before the weird 2009 refresh that changed it, and the ugly 2013 new model, that for 2017 they have mostly fixed.  I don't get why Mercedes doesn't just make it look more like the 50's SL and make it a bit more retro or classic look.  The retro look is working for the G-wagen.
