GM News: Rumorpile: GM Plans On Adding More Crossovers For Cadillac and Chevrolet

Sales of crossovers have been booming in the past year thanks to lower gas prices. Sensing a huge opportunity, General Motors is planning to add more crossovers to its various brands.

The Detroit Bureau reports that Cadillac is planning to add a crossover that will compete with the likes of the Audi Q3 and Mercedes-Benz GLA. We first reported on this back in November as Cadillac plans to add a compact, subcompact, and full-size crossover to its lineup in the next few years. No mention was given in either report of when we'll see the subcompact crossover.

Meanwhile at Chevrolet, sources say the brand is considering a new midsize model to slot in between the Equinox and Traverse. This model would come with three-rows and compete against the likes of the Toyota Highlander and Ford Edge. Chevrolet is expected to move the Equinox slight down market and the Traverse slightly up market to give the new model some breathing room.

Blazer name was just trademarked... Looks like Chevy is getting itself some extra help.. probably about the current Equinox's size.. or slightly larger.. maybe on the tail of the Colorado 7.

We all kno that Cadillac is getting a new under and over XT5 in 2017-18

Buick Envision.. but when the EFF is the truck brand GMC's vehicles gonna show their face?

We think the next Acadia will be shown next week at Detroit.

Man, it'd be great if the rumored Chevy model were a proper SUV like the Colorado 7 overseas. I won't hold my breath, though.

When bringing up the competition, it's going to be the Edge OR the Highlander. Those are two very different vehicles that occupy different places in the market. The Highlander is currently cross-shopped with the Traverse, not Equinox.

This all makes sense, though. The Equinox is currently a little large for the segment, and can be run up to a much higher price tag than it's rivals.

These things are all things they have had planned but it is only now the pieces are falling in place. GM has done well with the CUV and SUV models and needed to get the cars up to speed. Now that they are there it is time to advance the SUV CUV models to the next level.

Also they will focus to get more people to down size as they will have higher prices and lower sales on the full size models. We have seen them drop already and they will continue to drop. The pricing is the key to still make money but limit sales for future CAFE regs.

I would not expect a Colorado 7 here as the styling would not play well. But a new Colorado based SUV should be in the cards. We have the Blazer name and All Terrain name registered and that leads me to a Chevy and GMC unibody RWD/AWD.

As for Cadillac they will need to offer some smaller models as everyone else will too. They will not to be dependent on them but they need to at least find an acceptable offering exspecially for Europe.

I dunno about that. The Colorado 7 looks a lot like the current Colorado.. and tho there are differences.. they could easily be tweaked to align properly with the pick-up. Then again.. the Silverado doesn't exactly look like a twin to the Tahoe/Suburban either

It uses the overseas Colorado front clip so it would be gone for sure and the rear clip and doors are too Nissanish. I have seen many on web sites say they would like a vehicle like this but hope it would get a make over. I am sure it would.
