If you are planning to order a Chevrolet Colorado or GMC Canyon Diesel, you might want to put those plans on hold. Members on the ColoradoFans.com have been wondering where their trucks are. Originally, it was expected that the Colorado and Canyon Diesels would begin arriving at dealers this fall, but that time has passed and trucks aren't at dealers.

Ask a member what their experience has been like and it will likely go like this: I ordered a truck weeks ago, the delivery date keeps getting pushed back, and GM and dealers aren't explaining why.

The Truth About Cars decided to investigate. They got a hold of GMC spokesman Brian Goebel who said, "Those trucks are still in final validations and we hope to ship soon.”

General Motors' was quick to point out this isn't related to the extra scrutiny that EPA has been putting on diesel models.

Gobel went on to say this 'final validation' issue only deals with the diesel models. But details of what issue is unknown. Also, Gobel pointed out that GM hasn't 'technically passed its initial on-sale date for Fall 2015.' They got about four days left before that changes.

We'll be keeping a close eye on this story.

I think this is great as GM is wanting to make sure the Diesel versions are perfect and no mistakes in them having to have a recall. I would rather wait an extra couple months and get a perfect auto than have to take it back after a week or so for some repairs.

I think we are past the line of 'couple of months' in this situation. Also, I think buyers who placed orders wouldn't mind a bit of update. Just say 'Hey, GM is having an issue at the plant with a number of diesel models. They don't what's going on. But they are working on it and we'll get the truck to you as soon as we can.

Yeah it feels a little more than just playing it safe. And for those who have ordered them I think they should get a little more of an update rather than a magazine/website having to investigate for them to get an answer.

It is good that it should come out without issues, but every vehicle has its bumps and bruises so its inevitable that something will cause a hiccup after they are on sale anyway. That's just how it goes. Every manufacturer tests vehicles like 99% of us will never use them and things still fail when they get in our hands.

This is not news.  I am on that forum and believe me, all of us who were early adopters with factory orders in the second half of 2014 were crying and moaning like little bitches while we waited for info through GM's order tracking services.

GM knows they will be under a microscope with the new model and they have to make sure it is right or else. It is more than the EPA they have to worry about.

The magazine of journalist that breaks a story that GM trucks fail the test would make headlines like you would not believe.

This is one deal there is no wiggle room for GM they either have to get it 110% right or pay the price.

If it's quality assurance better now to sort out the process before having to rely at quality at source methods or after production inspections for items that can only be secured during critical points.

Sometime you just have to wait, but this is a product worth waiting for. It's the segment best.

Things like this are why GM will be bankrupt or needing a major capital influx again in about 5 years. Sad thing is, it has nothing to do with their products, which on the whole, are really good.

.... based on what?  They have been profitable. They have a truck that lots of people want.  And they seem to be taking extra care to make sure that the new engine launches properly.

Friskey you really think a slight delay on a Diesel Colorado will make GM unprofitable.

How many years have people cried GM did not take the time to sort out their product before release and just pushed them on the public to sort out? Now they do the right thing and make sure it is right on a engine that is a hot topic today in the media.

GM gas been very profitable with out this truck and will only add ot existing profits. As it is they have even been profitable through the Ignition deal and have come out of past sins in pretty good shape. They have not cut back on spending, they are still making money and they did not have to sell off anything to hang on. Now over at VW they may need a loan and cuts to make it and if they they can not pay the loan they may have to sell one of their luxury divisions to pay it off.

This is not going to be a vehicle that sells more than 10% of the model but they will make money with it and work to grow it in the segment over time with trust because they got it right.

Now if they get this wrong and it blows up it would be a PR nightmare and the media would just love to pounce on GM for anything. We all know that after seeing it happen while other brands often walk away with only a scratch.
