MONTVALE, N.J., July 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) today reported record June sales for the Mercedes-Benz brand at 28,044, climbing 5.8% from the 26,506 vehicles sold during the same month last year. Sprinter delivered a 10.9% increase in June to 2,442, combining with 774 units at smart for a monthly total of 31,260 for MBUSA. On a year-to-date basis, Mercedes-Benz retails totaled 164,970, up 8.8%. Adding sales volumes of 13,534 for Sprinter and 3,624 for smart, MBUSA achieved a record grand total of 182,128 units for the first six months of 2015.

"With a record first half on the books and our new GLE lineup hitting the market next month, summer is off to a heated start at Mercedes-Benz," said Stephen Cannon, president and CEO of MBUSA. "As we make our way to our new home in Atlanta, we'll carry that momentum to deliver another banner year for the brand."

June sales for the Mercedes-Benz brand were led by the C-, E- and M-Class model lines. The C-Class took the top spot with 8,316 units, up 48.3% from the same month last year. The E-Class followed with sales of 3,611, while the M-Class (to be succeeded by the GLE when it launches later this summer) rounded out the top three at 3,541.

As a whole, first-half sales of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars totaled 101,212, increasing 3.5% from the same period in 2014. The brand's light truck lineup, which will see the addition of several all-new or redesigned models over the course of the next year, posted an 18.5% increase from the first half of 2014, reflecting the growing demand for SUVs in the U.S. market.

Mercedes-AMG high-performance models posted a 24.5% monthly sales increase to 1,021 units in June, while year-to-date sales climbed 7.6% to 6,048. Sales of Mercedes-Benz BlueTEC diesel models hit 623 for the month and 7,494 year-to-date.

Separately, Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned (MBCPO) models delivered June sales of 8,700, up 9.5% from the same month in 2014, with a year-to-date total of 58,874.

Bad month for the E-class but it was still #1 seller in its segment.  That segment is hurting all around.  Which is surprising because people like mid-size cars and why wouldn't you want a mid-size luxury car rather than some boring crossover.
