HOLDEN sister company Opel has applied for Australian trademark registration for the name Monza, potentially opening the door for a Holden model of that name in this market.

If General Motors history is any guide, the moniker could be applied to a two-door sports coupe, most likely a spin-off of GM’s new-generation global large car that GoAuto expects to serve variously as the next Opel/Vauxhall Insignia, Buick Regal and Holden Commodore from about 2017.

GM insiders caution that the company sometimes registers these names to protect them in case they want to use them at some future point, but they are not ruling out the coupe theory either.

According to a document seen by GoAuto, the Monza trademark application appears to be part of an international trademark registration process.   http://www.goauto.com.au/mellor/mellor.nsf/story2/6E16F3AC4CBCA736CA257E51001AFFDA

The new Opel grille, while good looking; is a Crest-less Cadillac grille outline and the front end swaps vertical lights for horizontal ones. Again, it's good looking, and the family resemblance should be good.

But yes, it is quite easy to describe this styling scheme.

And yes, whatever Opel gets, Buick should get too, right?

^^^ Absolutely. Buick and Opel should be so in sync that they have everything the other has barring maaaaaaaaybe 2 vehicles per market. As it stands Buick and Opel compete only in China, and Buick is winning

Not Regal.... wrong Buick name with an R.

I've been told by Buick people that there is only one name that registered more positively in focus groups than Regal....

That is a beautiful vehicle, it would definitely help to change the way people think of Buick.  There is no grandparent car image there.  If that were to get made it would be nearly as exciting as the Avenir.  I'll keep my fingers crossed, but not hold my breath.
