Interesting history lesson here to go along with wondering if the change over to EV's could just repeat this.

There will be no "changeover to EV's" in our lifetimes, silly guy.  :roflmao:

And I do love the '49-'51 Fords.

Maybe not in your lifetime, but I can see EVs being the dominant type of vehicle sold within the next 20 years.  And autonimous vehicles are inevitable also...

Randomly (OK: not) looking at 1949 Ford models. There were 2 series:
• Ford Six/Eight,  • Ford Custom Six/Eight

Maybe you'd call that "4", they were coded differently but production wasn't broken out between, say; Ford Six and Ford Eight. Of course in this period, it's very simple: 1 wheelbase, and either an I-6 or V8, and the same sheet metal.

Here's the interesting part ~

Custom Six 4-dr sedan
Custom Six 2-dr sedan
Custom Six 2-dr club coupe
Custom Six 2-dr convertible
Custom Six 2-dr station wagon

It is odd they went with 2dr wagons only in '49-51, considering the wagons in the previous generation were 4drs.   A '49 Ford Custom Six 4dr sedan was my parents' first new car, bought shortly after they got married.  I've seen a B&W photo of it, think it was dark blue.   Was 21 years before I was born...

This past week the gf and I went on our first real vacation together in the 6 years we've been together. We went to Vegas. I got to enjoy some Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears(talk about earning some brownie points!!). We also went to a Cirqu De Soule to Michael Jackson. That rocked, but I also love Michael's music, even if he was an odd character. Hey, the best artists of ALL TIME were all a little crazy, right!?! I burnt up some of those brownie points because we road-tripped to Phoenix Sunday for the NASCAR race. That was my first experience driving through mountains and it was awesome and beautiful.

Here are some random pics from the week.

This is just a random car but I saw it had a flat in our hotel parking lot and told somebody inside so they could hopefully find the driver before they needed to be somewhere and found out too late or started driving on it.

We had a rental 2014 Jetta(not sure which engine after looking up 2014 Jettas I see a few different engine choices...) for Saturday and Sunday to drive to Phoenix. Who would have though the VW threw a random light?!? You know what fixed it? I immediately pulled over to visually check the tires, they all looked and felt full enough to limp to the next exit, check them all and none were below 35psi but the jabronis who last serviced the car set them at 40 and one was at 35 and one at 36 so I filled them to 40 and rolled on. Guess, what? Lights went off. Stupid VW. No clue why the traction/stability control light went on but it had. It too went off basically after turning the car off and turning it back on. Again, Stupid VW.

Oh it was also due for an oil change prior to picking it up. But that's not VW's fault. Just a little humorous.

Sweet pano-pic I took from our seats.

@surreal1272 Congratulations! :cheering:

Looks really good, nice job!

Thanks. It's not 100% the way I want it but I can live with it. I have a installed more stereos than I can count but this is the first time I have done one like this, where I had to literally take out and relocate other pieces to make the install happen. I'm satisfied (for now) considering this was my first attempt at something like this.

Looks really good, man!

Did you relocate your head unit down there? How did you essentially make that fit down there and also make it look like it belongs down there because it looks like a clean, factory location. Well done.

It also looks like you have to replace one of the dome lights to the "white" like the one closest to the camera yet! lol The white looks really good.

Nice vacation pics cap!

And nice radio there my friend!

Thanks! It was a blast. First vacation, that wasn't my annual "Bro Float", in probably 10 years. I'm too cheap and with still being in school there isn't a whole lot of available time. Much needed.

Thanks ccap41. The lower opening (where the stereo is now) was a perfect size for the double DIN. Then I just had to cut out the trim to accomodate the double DIN fitting and subsequently relocate the cig lighter outlet. It worked out better than I thought it would. The only downside to the location is that it is a little low to reach while I'm driving. Reminds me of my old 95 Talon, which had low sitting stereos in them (like the Eclipse). And yes, every light was replaced, including the dome, except the front dome light. They used a funky twist fitting that I did not have an LED replacement for. That is really the only thing left to do in there. The back light is bright as hell, which I like. For reference, this was the before shot (and right after I pulled out the lower CD player).

This brand new 2017 Nightfall Gray Chevy SS (manual) is less than 100 miles from my house. That's exactly how I'd order it and it's killing me because I'm just 6 months from being able to afford it. I check back habitually in case they throw incentives on the hood.

This car would be PERFECT for me. I drive less than 10k miles per year and can accommodate my rock cover band needs as well as starting a family in a few years. UGH.

Road trips are always a good way to get to know a car.  Esp. random, spur-of-the-moment trips.  Took a 250 mile jaunt around scenic parts of Arizona (from Phoenix up to Prescott then back through the mountains via Wickenberg).  The Jeep performed flawlessly; drove like a new car.   In the mountains over 6000 feet down to high desert then back to the Valley...  Seemed familiar yet totally different compared to my old one.   Had a great day...sunny and cool up north.

It's going to be insane. I talked to somebody who was around them dyno-testing it and they had it over 1050whp but they were still breaking things so they were going to have to dial it back.

That's freakin' nuts!

It is here. 808 hp on 91 with the wide front tires 9.9 in the 1/4 mile. 840 with 100 octane and the skinniest 9.65@140 and 0 to 60 in 2.3. Oh my. Will lift the front tires even in 91 mode with the wide tires. Quickest factory car in the world.
