Some of that is a bit of a stretch to call them automotive manufacturing facilities.

Of course that's not all vehicle assembly but I would think it's a pretty big positive that they're producing a lot of their own part in-house instead of outsourcing them.

I could very well be mistaken, but, I believe they didn't have the COVID hiccups near as bad as the rest of the industry because they were making most everything in-house.

That’s an excellent, though very different point.  I think you’ll see many manufacturers shorten their supply chains either by moving some production in-house or by insisting suppliers build more on the continent of use.  It’s a huge reason why Intel is building a brand new chip plant in Ohio. And LG is expanding in Michigan.

however, that’s different than having automotive production lines.

Oh yes, it certainly isn't "the way" to do it, otherwise all of these legacy automakers would have done it decades ago. I'm just saying that, I believe, it did help them through a massive supply chain issue that's still plaguing the automotive industry and it likely isn't easing up in the very near future.

Yet even Musk has been very clear now on his twitter feed that supply chain issues is hitting Tesla now globally and Tesla announced that they have laid off the complete staff and closed their San Mateo Office.

Tesla laying off 229 Autopilot employees, closing San Mateo office, filing says - ABC7 San Francisco (abc7news.com)

I have to question how good their autopilot is when you have 37 deaths contributed to it so far, continued alpha/beta testing on the public and now a major layoff in that specific division.

Do not be surprised if he closes more, Tesla Stock hammered, deal for Twitter so he could force his view of truth on everyone is now a lawsuit as he feels he should not have to pay due to his fictional believe of excessive bots, lawsuits of sexual misconduct by him and other management/executives, continual late delivering products (Semi, CyberTruck, Roadster), continued poor fit n finish along with other quality issues in assembly.

Tesla is a mess that I would not go near or wish on anyone.

I get a code sent to my BK app for "Whopper Wednesday."  The price is great.  And it includes the meatless Impossible Whopper.

So here I thought I was eating healthy.

I come to learn that this puppy has 630 calories to the Big Mac's 540 calories, and the other nutritional values aren't that commendable.

You'd think BK would benchmark this meatless sandwich to come in under both the Whopper and the Big Mac, and somewhere under 500 calories.

I may partake in (Impossible) Whopper Wednesday less often going forward.

Good information to know but this did take almost two years longer then the legacies that were struggling immediately once COVID hit.

It sounds like a mess, to be honest. I'm glad I don't have to deal with any of that crap. For as good as it seems to be reviewed, there's certainly holes in the programming/software/hardware that NEED to be addressed.

You say Tesla's stock is getting hammered but it's currently juuuust above where it was trading a year ago, so it's only getting hammered in the short term.

Rivian on the other hand, has gotten smoked since its IPO.

FYI, not an investor in either company but I'd like to get in on Rivian at some point. I believe they'll be around for the long haul.

Not red meat vs red meat is worth the 90 calories, IMO.

I looooove me some hamburgers and steaks but red meat is not very good for us.

Also, after looking further into the burger situation, I'm not seeing a 540 calorie Whopper.

Wife and I tried the impossible Whopper and found it to be impossible to finish eating. Not sure what people see in this terrible tasting fake meat sandwich. Pass, if I am going to eat meat, gonna eat meat.

I have always tried the various meatless patties, hotdogs, etc. Not found a one worth spending additional money on or time to eat.

Damn right!

But.....if one wants to be vegan, then be vegan for phoque's sake.

None of this fake meat burgers that are so called plant based but have so much sodium in them to taste like meat.

<Dudes and dudettes out there that want to be vegan>   especially those that want to be righteous about it...

I got a phquing message for you:

EAT YOUR VEGGIES and NEVER YOU MIND THE FAKE-NESS OF PLANT BASED MEAT FLAVOURED ANYTHING!!!

Im a meat eater through and through.   But Im NOT a carnivore. (no human is actually)

Im an OMNIVORE!!!

I EAT all KINDS of veggebles....   I LOVE all KINDS of veggebles.  I dont WANT my vegetables to taste like meat.

A little bit of olive oil and lemon juice goes a LONG phoquing way for MY vegetables to taste good.

And there is COUNTLESS of OTHER ways that Greek cuisine lends to for vegetarian dishes...   LEARN to eat THOSE kinds of veggie cuisines and STOP THE BULLSHYTE OF LYING TO ME THAT YOU ARE A VEGAN/VEGETARIAN THAT WE HAVE SHYTTY CORPORATIONS INVENTING SHYTTY WAYS TO MAKE A SO CALLED PLANT BASED VEGAN BURGER!!!

PS:

If ANY self righteous vegan moron wants to try me, try me!!!

I CAN go on an all vegan diet.  I LOVE GREEK CUISINE that is on the vegetarian side.  Not a problem for me to do so.   But I dont believe in ANY foolish vegan ideology therefore I will continue to be an omnivore...

@ccap41

Thanks for the exhibits.  I did get an Impossible Whopper today with my app price.  At 10 mg of cholesterol versus 90 mg for the regular Whopper, that bit of info convinced me.  I get one about once every two weeks.

@Robert Hall

I, too, am trying to eat healthier.  I tend to dislike tree huggers and granolas who, deep down, are very angry and very fake, so it's not about making a political statement and aligning with them in any way, shape, or form.  It's about working toward keeping or getting better numbers on my quarterly bloodwork.

@oldshurst442

I like most things, but I despise spicy food of any type.  I don't see how it can be fun to be sitting there eating and having your nose run, or how that can be flavorful.  I am liking vegetables a lot more.  I hated them as a kid.  Now, I love spinach, squash, lentils, cauliflower and most of those things.  I also like fish a lot more, too ... especially fish like salmon, halibut, shark, and swordfish.

But I will always like a small steak from time to time and I like the marinated and seasoned cubed pieces of lamb and sirloin that Greek restaurants serve up.

I could live contently with just the foods of the Mediterranean and the foods of the Americas, which realistically casts a big net.

Wow, seems the Germans might need to be paying better attention not to Tesla, bit Hyundai.

Been seeing more and more news stories of Mercedes-Benz. BMW and Audio auto owners trading in for the Hyundai Ioniq-5. Currently the best near luxury EV on the market as they benchmarked the Tesla 3 and now stand on it's shoulders.

Very cool, hope the US auto companies can then benchmark Hyundai and move ahead of them.

It's the cities, and not the motorists, who should be fined over "No (Right) Turn on Red" signage that is displayed in black and white print.  Granted, these are usually tough right turns and have sight line issues or weird traffic flow.

However, it needs to be in (European inspired) graphics, with the color red, and/or maybe even digitally displayed.  I once saw such a display in Pensacola that was on an off-ramp of I-110 that was displayed digitally/electrically and above the lanes of traffic at the end of the ramp.

With the lame, small black and white signs, these can be a cash cow for city coffers and can penalize motorists who would have noticed and gladly complied with other more obvious "No (Right) Turn on Red" types of signage.

Last week's Karen:

  • In her 50s.
  • Orders a trio. 'Upgrades' to a sweet potato french fry.
  • yells so loud so other customers in the place hear her how the restaurant is ripping her off on the account the upgrade is too expensive.
  • doesnt want to pay up for the 'upgrade' over the regular fries.
  • yells at my cashier, as young as she is, 16, that it was her job to advise her there is an upcharge for the upgrade.
  • I had told her between the yelling episodes that the prices are clearly marked on the menu at the front and top of the counter and clearly visible and readable in large bold letters in 2 phoquing languages as  soon as you walk in the restaurant.
  • tells me that its not her job to look at the menu.

As soon as that gets blurted out I swear at her to get the phoque out of my restaurant.

  • refuses to leave because she says I have no right to kick her out.

I had left the kitchen at this point talking to her showing her the menu how clear and legible it is...

I had my phone with me at this point, I was dialing 9-1-1  because I knew I was going to do something illegal on my part.  I knew I could snatch her purse, and so I did, walked out the door and threw it.  More like lobbed it on the side.

She yelled that she was going to call the police, asked other customers to call the police, but I showed her my phone screen that 9-1-1 was already dialed.  Told her "beat ya to it" and proceeded to tell the 9-1-1 operator my story, including the part that I grabbed her purse and that I  tossed it outside because as THE owner I no longer wanted her as a client on the account that she was disruptive and rude and refused to pay and that I had told her to leave, but didnt  after multiple times being told to leave. That was a lie, I only told her once to leave...

She quickly left the store, hysterical, picking her purse up,  and quickly getting into her car to the cheers of the other patrons.

I quickly apologized to my other patrons and continued my day.

I still had adrenaline of hate, anger and bewilderment until I posted that rant.

I now laugh at the sheer stupidity of it all. Including me snatching the purse from her hands...

There is no turning right on red ANYWHERE on the island of Montreal.

A driver's case for banning right turns on red lights | Sean Marshall

It is clearly marked at ALL bridges entering the island.  And yeah, with the Euro style signage.

But the message is in French...   Oh well, Montreal is a bilingual city, but it is a French settlement of a city in a French populated province that was settled by the French therefore people visiting here could at least make the small effort in learning a little bit of French.

One does have to have a small sympathetic take of Quebec politicians and French folk living outside of bilingual Montreal wanting to stave off the English language juggernaut that will eventually take over the Province of Quebec..quite possibly in the next 50 years...

But Quebec highway signage is not so uptight about this whole language thing  that it doesnt realize plenty of English speaking 'Mericans visit us occasionally.

Yes, English speaking Americans come up, but the West Island is heavily Anglophone.  I went into a Starbucks in DDO during a 5 hour layover at (then) Dorval and the guy helping me spoke English with no accent - not even the "Canadian lilt." as I call it.

The problem is that some people do not have a visual image of what constitutes the island of Montreal filed away in their heads.  By the time you are west of DDO and Point-Claire, it gets way less dense.  The same is true eastward beyond Anjou.  A person may think they are a world away from Montreal and can make a right turn on red, but they CAN'T.

Yet in denser and barely off-island Longueil and Laval, you CAN make a right on red.

But, yes, (the island of) Montreal does the signage right.

I doubt that's even necessary as I'd wager most states already have laws against touching/removing/effecting the vehicle's emissions systems. I know I've read IL law that states you cannot remove or modify emissions systems or exhaust systems. The stuff just isn't enforced.

I randomly think about this from time to time ...

It's fun to put the passenger window down and hear your engine and its exhaust note reverberated back at you as you cross a small bridge or something similar.

I've learned this only works when the members or struts on the bridge extend down to the road level (beneath the level of the exhaust) and there is no concrete low wall, curb, or apron at the base of the opening.

So far, the finest sounding engine note I've heard on bridges belongs to Olds (Rocket) small block V8s, providing their exhaust system is in excellent shape and the rhythmic sound coming back at you is a quiet, perfectly tuned one.

I think I did this on a covered bridge in Quebec with a 2007 Buick Allure I rented before I bought the equivalent U.S. vehicle by the brand.

Nothing wrong with being a little "childish" from time to time.

On this day in 1956, Italian Line's post WW2 transatlantic flagship, the SS Andrea Doria, was off the coast of Nantucket and due in nearby New York the following morning. At about 11 pm, while people were dancing in the ballrooms and awaiting the midnight buffet, she was impaled by the outbound SS Stockholm, which was about to begin crossing the North Atlantic in an easterly direction.

It has been called the greatest rescue at sea.  The list of the Doria rendered half of her lifeboats unusable, so the nearby French liner Ile de France, as well as the "offending" Stockholm and smaller ships belonging to the U.S. armed forces, took on the survivors.  The loss of life amounted to 46 on the Doria and 5 on the Stockholm and involved passengers and crew near the zone of the impact.  While there were injuries, everyone else on board the two vessels survived.

That would have been a serious amount of money for a car during the Eisenhower years.

I'll never forget when they introduced the Maybach by bringing the luxury car to America aboard the QE2 but, instead of putting it in the hold, they put it in a metal framed glass box that sat on one of the pool decks up near the funnel.

Was curious,

Adjusted for inflation, $150,000 in 1956 is equal to $1,560,459 in 2022. Annual inflation over this period was 3.61%. Value of a dollar.

Very sad that Tony Dow, Beaver's older brother Wally on "Leave it to Beaver," recently died from cancer.

This tame "peaches and cream" sitcom well before the "innocence lost" factor in America and Beaver, Wally, Larry Mondello, and all those kids seem ageless and eternal.

I've seen it in reruns and the best episode had to have been when they dared each other to climb a billboard for a soup product that had a cup emitting steam to see if there really was soup in it.  They made the climb.  It all went south from there.

They all stayed on for years, as did the "Brady Bunch" after the series ended.  Putting these sitcoms into perspective from today's lenses, people would be in an uproar that they're too white and not diverse enough.  There were families like that then ... and now.  A person can check out some suburbs in the Mountain West, the Midwest, and the Southeast and see that.  They will be far less common in other regions of the U.S.

A living room American (Canadian, etc.) kids probably knew all too well ...

fi-hp-hgtv-brady-renovation-4.jpg

Back on topic, these were good shows, as was "Bewitched."  The best "Brady Bunch" episode had son Greg losing his dad's prints for a perfume company main office which ridiculously looked like a huge powder puff on stilts (sort of bad, like the basket building in OH).  The prints slid out of a tube that Greg was transporting.  (With AutoCAD, that would be a non-issue today.)  As for "Bewitched," the best moments were probably of busybody Mrs. Kravitz exasperating her husband Abner, even though she really did see what she reported to have seen.  Gladys and Abner ... classic!
