"Making" businesses close? If state entities, that's fine. Non-state entities can make their own calls.

So are you saying that on days when the banks, postal, schools, pretty much all gov employees have off that you would not like to be off also on that day? Other than gas, hotel, grocery and restaurants why not have everyone off spending time with family?

Well, I'm my own boss, but that said; I work on plenty of holidays, at my choice. Other than a handful of the holidays, they aren't really 'family time' days by nature, anyway. Columbus Day- pffft! In fact, working on holidays insures a lot better commute. ;)

Just seems to me we have a pretty good list of holidays as it is, and I still prefer if private companies made their own call.

I can and do respect the ability to allow companies to choose their holidays especially when your self employed. I just feel that major holidays like Thanks giving, it sucks that retail opens up and pulls people away as well as has people work those days. Everyone needs some down time. The easiest way to insure down time is to have everyone take the same holidays off for the most part and like all rules, there is always a need for addressing the little businesses. So for self employed and small businesses under 100 people, I would say this is not needed.

Yet I do agree with the easier commute on the holidays when you do need to drive. :P

My company only shuts down three days a year: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. The trucking industry never stops, so we cannot either.

Tesla emailed out today a sales pitch about Tesla OwnerShip made EASY.

Model S for as little as $698 per months or equivalent of $531 per month after fuel savings.

Trade in any lease or loan program auto and Tesla will help you unload the auto and get into a Tesla

Certified Pre-Owned Tesla with 4yr-50,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty starting under $50,000

Small Print ends with *Lease - 10,000 miles per year max on 36 month lease Total due at signing $6393.

So I wonder just how much Tesla is hurting?

So, I shall be going to the Toronto auto-show..

Will finally use the new fangled Camuuuura...

And should get awesome pics of the Camaruuuu

I saw it at the Montreal Auto Show.

I dont like it.

I had a hard time deciphering if Im looking at a Alpha Camaro or Zeta Camaro. It looks that much like its predecessor.

I do have a trick to tell them apart.

I look at the front end. The Alpha Camaro has a rounded front fender/bumper front area...

2016-chevrolet-camaro-ss-front-close-2.j

I was looking at that for ages before finally having the courage to sit inside it without puking!

Sure, the interior is a nice place to be, better than the Zeta Camaro...but man, I cant stand that look. ITS DATED!

Meanwhile, I travelled back to the Dodge area (because the Dodge area was at the beginning of the show) while the Chevy area was in the middle to sit inside the Challenger Scat Pack (because the Hellcat was on a "do not touch" pedestal going round and round) just to get the koodies  off of me.

I felt dirty after getting out of the Camaro.

Sleazy.

All I kept thinking about was Sam Witwicky and Bumblebee.

The Challenger AHHHHH! The Challenger.

Same rawness...but with sex appeal. Classy of you will.

One was made for whoring corporate America....much like Christina...and the other is just pure Rock-N-Roll!

seeing the new image in your sig made my imagination go wild.

Why doesn't Ford try to get some lucrative military cost-plus contract to get the Raptor converted into a military vehicle. Kinda like a humvee, but not a direct replacement, but something nonetheless that retains the agility of the truck but with real damage from firearms and explosions resistance.

And if Amurica ever had to fight on the ground against, I dunno... ISIS...

Well it'd be the battle of who had the better American trucks actually meant for combat (interesting how the hell ISIS actually has Ford and GM trucks like superduties and silverados but anyways).

And like the Patriotic ferver or like just the brawny brashness. Just a win-win-win scenario, I think.

Coming from someone with a military background, I can tell you that wouldn't work for several reasons.

Chief among them would be that the role such a vehicle would serve would be very limited in scope and usability. As tough as a Raptor is, it would require significant outfitting and upgrading to handle the demands of combat use. Even HUMVEEs with heavy up-armoring kits were still highly susceptible to blasts from below- land mines, IEDs- and penetrating explosives such as RPGs. This was with thousands of pounds of armor added, creating vehicles that weighed in @ 4 tons or more. A Raptor would even moderate armor upfitting would offer little protection to numerous combat dangers.

Next up you'd have the logistical issues of supply and running costs. Ford most likely couldn't even produce the Raptor in numbers significant enough for the military to really be able to utilize and justify the procurement of them. And maintenance costs would be extreme. A thirsty, performance-tuned, forced induction, small displacement gas engine operating in a military theater would be major expense and offer much greater liability that a diesel platform.

Military personnel carriers, even in their most basic and lightest configurations have evolved into a much tougher and safer animal. The opening engagements of Afghanistan and Iraq in recent times made it abundantly clear that unarmored vehicles cannot safely transport troops or material. There are Special Forces divisions that actually use Toyota Tacomas already, and they offer abilities that larger vehicles cannot. They allow for quick, low-key insertion of operators into an area and then extraction back out. They are extremely reliable and tough, especially relative to their cost, and they don't make as much of a statement as a large, full-size truck would. They essentially give up armor and payload in exchange for simplicity and stealth.

Raptors COULD, provided the aforementioned supply could be met, conceivably function as behind-front lines support vehicles, expeditionary and recon platforms, and as transports in Stateside and peace area roles such as Security Forces, to and from missile/radar sites, and in War Game exercises which take place in challenging terrain but don't require safety measures like a combat vehicle.

As for the how ISIS gets their hands on Ford and GM trucks, here is an article I read awhile ago(and I think I posted it as well). Basing my guesstimate off the article, I would assume they literally just buy what they want here and bring them over wherever they want them.

At some point, after recalling 50 million vehicles for assembly & design deficiencies in a decade's time -some grotesquely glaring- the adjective 'reliable' becomes gravely inappropriate.

Well, he brought up recalls by a company that first off, sells/has sold significantly more cars across the globe than GM, and which were by and large, for minor things that don't affect drivability. Conversely, GM has been wrought with recalls itself lately, and they are of much more severity than Toyota's.

In other words, it's a hypocritical statement.

Not significantly more.

A very minute amount.

Besides...GM did that #1 in total sales thing for about 80 years in a row...

ALSO...it does not change the fact that Toyota proved to be JUST AS CRAP as GM was in the 1980s and 1990s...

ALSO...when GM was at is highest...Toyota was selling this POS to the American public...

Which, again, has NOTHING to do with him looking for a cheap SUV/CUV. Oh and that recall severity is very subjective because some would call the ability to stop your car pretty severe, as would the same be said for frame rust. That's a pretty big deal to a lot of folks, just like the GM issues were.

You asked, I answered. Let it rest. You hate Toyota and love GM, just like 90% of the posters here. Moving on.....

Yup...I hate Toyota all right.

It has to do with that crappy Toyopet and the Cressida of the 1980s being shyte though...

Kinda like how many Americans, including yourself, that has a HARD TIME LETTING GO of GM's crap...FROM THAT SAME TIME PERIOD that is THE 1980s...

Its funny, Toyota makes some tuff as nails cars, but many many many shyte ones...and you slobber all over that...

Yet, GM also makes some tuff as nails cars, yet also makes many many many shyte ones too, yet you have never defended GM so vehemently as you defend Toyota or BMW...

Why is that?

Yet you want to lambaste the 90% of the posters here...but these posters here are...AMERICAN...I think its LOGICAL why these posters here would defend GM...not so much Toyota...as Toyota is...JAPANESE...

Aint nothing wrong in liking something Japanese...

But...why are you so perplexed that you want to make an issue out of Americans loving AMERICAN things?

Especially when Toyota hasnt really been that stellar in the reliability department selling cars to Americans...

At best, Toyota's reliability in the USA has been ON PAR with GM...

So...I know I have kinda butted in this conversation, but not really as you also found a problem with ME not liking Toyota earlier,

So...for me at least, I dont care how bullet proof the Camry or Corolla may or MAY NOT have been. Alls I know is that GM and Ford has been pretty good with me...and for the U.S. and Canada...so...Ill continue to like GM and hate on Toyota...

And Ill continue to make a mockery with anybody trying to tell me otherwise about Toyota...or BMW...or Mercedes Benz...or any other "foreign car maker" that sells their vehicles in North America and pretends that those companies NEVER sold SHYTE here...but want to flame GM every chance they get...

Toyotas are everywhere...very popular, very mainstream. I generally see way more Asian and German models on the road than domestic models in a typical week. That's just reality. Some people like Toyotas, some don't. I wouldn't buy Toyota because they are too generic and mainstream.

First off, my last post wasn't even directed at you, it was for Surreal. Secondly, I don't ever bring up GM's 80's and 90's products. I challenge you to find a single instance where I have done that. I also don't lambaste anyone for liking GM. You can like whatever you want, makes me no difference. I give Toyota just as criticism as I do GM. Easily. There are few brands I criticize LESS than GM, at least from a product standpoint.

Another poster made it a point to throw Toyota's recalls out there as being merit to arguing Toyota isn't reliable. We all know that is far form the truth. This same poster also recently posted about searching for a vehicle, but having a very specific set of criteria. Those criteria are limited to vehicles that were, generally speaking, known for their unreliability. Therefore, his statement was hypocritical. I do not make hypocritical statements. If I did, I would say something along the lines of GM products being boring to drive, even though they are, as a whole, more engaging to drive than Toyota competition and they have more enthusiast-geared options.

Maybe you should see how adamantly I defended the new Malibu over at Bimmerforums.  :AH-HA:

Well...

Even if we talk about the 2000s and the 2010s...

Like I said...TOYOTA IS AT BEST ON PAR...with GM...

So...when Frisky, tries to defend Toyota  when I said to chalk up one more reason why I hate Toyota and he brings in Toyota reliabilty and Balthy just let him know that Toyota reliability is a myth and he in turn tries to lambaste Balthy with his preference for American cars is when I bring in the 1950s, the 1960s, the 1970s and the 1980s and the 2000s and the 2010s to show Frisky that Toyota really has no REAL track record of reliabilty...

What...the 1990s?

Because a Toyota Supra was offered as a Twin Turbo option?

Because we all know that a Toyota Camry in the 1990s had engine oil sludge problems...

So...if I cant bring in the 1950s or the 1960s, or the 1970s, or the 1980s...what years could I bring?

Keep in mind that Toyota has been selling cars in the States...since the 1950s...late 1950s...

Toyota was CRAP all THEIR YEARS here!

Like I said...a Corolla from the 1980s, because the Corolla in the 1970s was a rust bucket, and a Camry form the 1980s, a 4Runner and an SR5 from the 1980s a Supra from the 1980s and 1990s that were rock solid does not make a company far better than GM...

GM's reputation stems from ALL decades...even the dark years...

GM has had rock solid vehicles innthe 1980s and 1990s too...

So...

Ill repeat...If I cant hate on Toyota for building crap since day 1 in this continent...when could I hate on Toyota?

Because....oil sludge problems and unintended acceleration problems and pick-up trucks that fall apart because of rust or bad frames is quite recent you know...nothing to wave a flag for...

Look, I'm not here to debate which is better between Toyota and GM. Contrary to popular belief, I like GM a lot. They're one of my favorite makers. That doesn't mean I'm going to ignore their drawbacks or weaknesses. And one of those is, with modern cars and CUV's, lack of reliability and engineering flaws. Sorry, it is what it is.

Toyota has plenty of room for criticism. Majority of their products are dull, uninspired, and outdated. But reliability, especially among Tacomas of the last ~10 years, is stellar. This is reflected in their resale value that is matched by only a select few vehicles on the market, some of which being fellow Toyota products.

ever tried to buy a used jeep wrangler in good condition? theres some stellar resale value. its why i ended up with a 2014 unlimited when i was originally looking for a 2004-06 unlimited. i financed probably 5k more for a 1 year old vehicle with 2 more doors and less worries.

Jeep Wranglers being one of those vehicles I was referring to.

I've contemplated a Wrangler. But most likely I'm going to look for a '11-15 Grand Cherokee. My experience over the last 16 years w my '00 GC has been great for the most part.

Wranglers are great if you can use them in the capacity they are intended. They are terrible to drive on the street on a regular basis, though. Even my 4Runner was archaic and antiquated enough, and it's far better to drive than a Wrangler. Next time I get a vehicle for wheeling, it's gonna be an FJ or bust for me.

Dude, you are the only one dragging this on. We've already changed the subject. GM vehicles are no more reliable than Toyota products. If you want to deny that in your narrow-minded little head, be my guest. Just give it a rest.

Plowing totals for Balthy : Sat: 17 hrs, Sun: 10. Had about 26" around me.
This weekend's plow vehicle : '01 Ford F-250 SD, RC/LB. 161K miles.
Has very slow brake fluid leak, took 2 bottles over what felt like a million brake applications. Otherwise, besides the fact there was no radio antenna so it only got 1 station, functionally it was a decent push mobile. Had a nice balance of throttle/ coasting/ shifting WRT back-n-forth plowing motions.

The on road behavior of Wrangler kind of turns me off. I did a fair bit of off roading w my Grand Cherokee and it's been great around town and on cross country road trips...smooth, quiet, comfortable.

Me narrow minded? Seriously? Might I interest you in a mirror so that you can see how wrong you are?

Please, you clearly have not moved on or you wouldn't still be talking about it.

its astronomical that a rubicon tj with less than 70k miles would be able retain 80% of its original value! hence why i just bought almost new instead. just wasnt justifiable.

the room in the 2dr jk just didnt justify the purchase for me. my unlimited JK has excellent road manners in my opinion because of the longer wheelbase. its an everyday driver for me. with the 6sp i get on average 19-21 on my commute depending on how conservative i drive it. it also has substantial pep from the v6. the old 4.0's while torque monsters in their own right, couldnt get out of their own way at times. i had a 3rd gen camaro v8 race me the other day(dunno why). i pulled him from the rolling stop and flat out smoked him by car lengths from the light. the JK may nor be a "real Jeep" to some but it Jeeps for me! heheh

Which ones...the ones from Galapagos or the ones from DeMet/Nestle?

I prefer the pecan, caramel ones...although the ones from Galapagos are very interesting specimens themselves.
