Awesome video, great to see it working right.

Yes it is. It would open by hand but because the actuator was so stiff from bad hydraulics, it was a pain to manually open and close. It was the only thing that was acting up when I bought the car and this far has been the only issue during this time. I can’t lie though. Having a power lift gate is nice, especially when my hands are full.

It would appear that much like GM's Pontiac G8, too little too late as they say, Kia is looking at the same thing in regards to the Kia Stinger. Under 14,000 were sold in 2019. The performance Hot 4 door sedan just never brought in the buyers they thought it would and now with Covid-19, sales have plummeted to the point that Kia is thinking of shelving the refresh and just killing off the Hot 4 door RWD sedan. One that you could get loaded for less than $40,000.

Have to say that the Jeep Gladiator is Cool. Whether or not it is $44,000 dollars cool I leave it to everyone else to decide.

This is the Mojave by the numbers:

  • Base Price: $43,875
  • Powertrain: 3.6-liter V6 | six-speed manual transmission (eight-speed automatic optional) | rear-wheel drive/four-wheel drive with low range
  • Horsepower: 285 hp
  • Torque: 260 lb-ft
  • Ground Clearance: 11.6 inches
  • Off-Road Angles: 44.7° approach | 20.9° breakover | 25.5° departure
  • Max Towing Capacity: 6,000 pounds
  • Max Payload Capacity: 1,200 pounds
  • EPA Fuel Economy: 16/23/19 mpg city/highway/combined (manual transmission) | 17/22/19 mpg city/highway/combined (automatic transmission)
  • The promise: Jeep’s answer to the F-150 Raptor
  • The delivery: A desert runner that makes up for its lackluster powertrain with sheer capability

Due to this happening on one of my past auto's, I no longer try and be nice about exchanging insurance info and then go from there. I now always call the police and get a report so proof of who is at fault is there to protect my rights.

Problem with that logic is that when police get to the scene and it's a non-injury accident and they determine who was at fault, that driver will get a citation for "failure to control your vehicle" if they can't determine who was at fault (like a sideswipe) they will give both drivers a citation for the same infraction, happened to a buddy of mine here in Phoenix. It's standard protocol for most busy metro area PD's. They do it in Dallas and LA and probably NYC as well as others, it's mostly about extra revenue and 100% ?

Yeah...Montreal cops do that too.  And yes...what you said is logical that most busy metro area PDs have this as standard protocol.

They are there, they were called, they might as well "earn" their work effort of being called to a scene of an accident that could have been solved by just writing up a joint accident report otherwise...

Like you said, its revenue so they might issue a "failure to control your vehicle" ticket or an "obstruction of traffic" ticket or some other bullshyte bylaw thing they could write you up for.   But in Montreal...that kind of thing is rare.  Well...Montreal police and Quebec Provincial Police (The SQ) have other ways that trap you into tickets.  This way is not a favorite of theirs.

But like @dfelt  said...its really a safety net to protect oneself.

Yeah, this cop was actually pretty cool said he had no choice and his hands were tied due to the city bureau policy. Basically, his supervisor would be looking for the citation or he would get written up. Pretty sh!tty.

Maybe the real issue is why is Hyundai/KIA selling FWD cars the same size as the KIA Stinger.  Also, nobody expects a KIA to sell for $35K or more.  The K900 has the same sales problem, only worse.  Maybe Hyundai/KIA would be better off ditching the FWD cars entirely and focus on the FWD CUVs, while allowing the G70 and Stinger to live.

Then again, who wants to buy from hyper hustling dealers and a cheap image (especially the front fascia!)?  The Stinger (and K900) need better looks in order to sell better.  Some people still think it is 1998 rather than 2020.

How you call Kia/Hyundai is Ford and Dodge dealers here. Hustling dealers to move an auto while ignoring the customer and quality. Though reports say Kia / Hyundai have the best value and the cheap interiors are not a thing of the past. Fords biggest problem is sticking to their tried and true process of everything hard plastic at a high price. Ford Trucks are notorious for their hard plastic interiors at crazy prices.

People want to pay high prices for those Ford F-series trucks, hard plastic interiors or not.  If they did not want that, they can buy a GMC Sierra or a Canyon instead.

As for Hyundai/KIA, while several of their models are popular, the higher end ones (such as the Stinger) are not.  Hard plastics are part of the problem.  So is their cheap rental car image.

American Pedestrians are dying in greater numbers since the current administrations instructed the NHTSA to ignore their 2015 mandate to gather citizen input on making trucks pedestrian friendly in accidents. 2015 and 2016 was data gathering years and the proof is that the bigger taller trucks and SUVs are more deadly than ever to those that are out and about walking.

With trucks now taller than most people, being hit in a crosswalk or just about any other place is now killing more pedestrians per year with an average death rate of 3.4% per year increase. Bicyclists are the only higher death rate from being hit by trucks/SUVs at 6.3% increase per year.

72% of auto's sold last year were Trucks which include SUVs. This is a 57% increase over the last 5 years for auto sales.

In 2008 the US signed onto the rules and regulations to test for pedestrian crash safety. Europe and Japan have the lowest death of pedestrians in the world. The US never implemented them and as such leads the world in Pedestrian death by Auto.

FORD is BLEEDING MONEY to the Tune of $5 Billion dollar loss this quarter and it is due to the Covid-19 virus.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-ford-motor-results-idUSKCN22A1CX

And this bring in the first project killed / delayed at this time which is the Lincoln Luxury SUV EV is now off for the immediate future in being built as a joint venture with Rivian.

https://www.thedrive.com/news/33211/lincolns-ev-project-with-startup-rivian-falls-victim-to-coronavirus

While GM is going full speed ahead with their EV plans and have scaled back their ICE R&D. Ford is committed to their F-150 EV and the Mach-e. As such it makes sense that even as Rivian said the bulk of the work was done and it was a release schedule time line now for the Lincoln EV, they are focusing on the F-150 and Mach-e. Stated is that the Lincoln could show up later once things pick up or feature / functions show up in other EVs for ford. Who knows at this time with the global economy in a depression.

For the ICE Fans, Ford Ranger Rally which is a real auto sold in the world just not here and comes with a big Turbo Diesel and manual trans had a heart transplant as an African company is making them now with the Ford Raptor Twin Turbo V6 engine giving plenty of power even though it is not a V8.

Short of the Vette, there are only going to be light updates on any part of the ICE line.Even the CUV line will see what the Equinox will see for 21- just minor updates. Hence why the Trailblazer, while cool looking, is still meh compared to what they could have done. But those CUVs and new trucks will cover the gap for now.....

Ford is in the same boat-but pushing harder on EV than GM is... I think for foresee that payback for cheap gas coming.....

I suspect that the ICE engines will see few if any updates in the near future.  On the other hand, everything else will need to be updated in order to stay competitive against the imports and Ford/FCA.

EV were going to be a hard sell, that was a universal fact, even in our gung-ho economy before COVID.  Once we come out of this, people are going to be more cautious than ever with their money, with EV facing an even steeper uphill battle due to their poor value per dollar.

And remember, folks, not even a right turn on red on the Ile de Montreal (Island of Montreal).  The whole island includes a few other cities.  Huge Laval is on a different island, so it's exempt from that rule.  So are individual cities north and south of the St. Lawrence River.

This is a good one.  It's a true story.  An American idiot goes to Quebec and runs a stop sign.  The placard was octagonal ... and red.  When he got pulled over, he said, "Well, it said arret, and not stop."  In France and some European countries, they'll put stop on the sign.  In Quebec, they stick to their mother language.  ("We do not need to speak French ... we need French in order to speak.")

Still, basic Driver's Ed 101 says red is understood to mean the highest level of caution and stopping ... internationally.

People like this make us look bad, as in "ugly Americans."

I am starting to see more and more internet ads for masks.  As they ramp up production, I think the "good" ones will be more available to the general public.

When that happens, and they are in "surplus" mode, I'd like some.  I can definitely think of some places I would wear one ... air travel, public transit, trains, Costco, Walmart, etc.

Well the interesting part is that most of the automakers who are shooting more for EV may slowly roll back the turbos and return to some NA engines again to save cost as sales are not going to be pretty for a year or so. Rumors were floating that GM might bring back a few of the Ecotec engine line as optional engines in the CUV lineup...

The interesting part is that some one those engines could get better MPGS and HP than the current turbos in there now...

Don’t worry, ICE is in no danger as a choice for quite a while. ?

Charging and  current cost is what it is currently keeping it slow(er).  I think as lower options come along to power ( like maybe adding a solar panel to the garage to power the EV) these, people will start picking more up to drive. I’ve already noticed more Bolts and Model 3s around the motor city just within the last few months.

But it is going to be a long gradual shift toward EV, and cheaper gas for those who like our ICE for a while....

I’d be happy with one of each.... ?

Not everyone can wear a mask. I have realized that for my wife who has claustrophobia, that the mask adds heat to her face and does make it a bit harder to wear and she starts to as I say freak out a little bit. I have seen some people fully freak out and rip the mask off. So not everyone can use them especially asthma folks as the heated air is harder to breath than cooler air.

It is going to be interesting to see how mask use goes over the next few years.

I agree, that I can see as costs come down people having 1 of each. a ICE for longer road trips, hauling trailers, etc. EV for inner city / inner suburban driving with the ease of recharging at home every night.

Yep, wearing a mask is not easy when I have asthma...for that very reason. The lighter ones are not too bad though....

I can't stand wearing a mask, if it's a good N95 that fits tight and can actually stop the virus from entering your airway then you can hardly breath and almost start asphyxiating yourself. A bandana or some sort of cloth can help, but I just can't stand masks of any kind, not claustrophobic just don't like crap on my face.

I don't see masks being worn for a few years, it's only until they get a vaccine out within a year and I hear (my neighbor is a doc at the VA) that it will be like the seasonal flu once all the case data gets combined and released. There are all kinds of Coronaviruses out there that people have contracted and survived, this one is just tough on people with underlying conditions like diabetes or cardiovascular disease (congestive heart failure) those are the people that should be wearing masks to protect themselves. It still cracks me up when I see people wearing a mask and gloves while driving with the windows up and they're ALONE :roflmao:

The only way for EV's to work is to have a home charging station like you said, you can't depend on public charging stations or that they'll be available when you get there, you can check apps like PlugShare that locates all brands of public station locations around the nation as long as the station is on the EVSE wireless network, but still not a guarantee. I never needed it working for Blink Network HQ'd here in Phoenix. I have a Level 2 240v 40amp home charging station (no EV currently) and I used our Corp. charging stations at work. I drove a company Chevy Volt that was actually kinda fun, pretty torquey dual traction motors, but I did miss the sound of the "real" ICE under the hood, the little 1.4L I4 (generator) engine sounded pretty much like a generator revving up and down randomly as it needed while on the hwy. I still think the Volt EREV was the best setup, no range anxiety with the gas motor and you could run either at anytime. Mine, she got 51 mpg combined, not too shabby with a lead foot like mine :D

Right, Wife figures less time in crowded stores where we could possibly catch a virus means more time relaxing with good food and drink at home. :D

I will say you never had garlic till you have true fresh garlic from the yard. Love it! :P

Yes a very boxy front end and yet I like it for some reason.

Well stocked wine cellar, about 900 bottles and a decent small batch liqueur cabinet. :P
