Anyone want to share the first time went toa NASCAR race?

A buddy gave my better half some tickets, so I decided to check it out with him., last year.  Did not see the flag go up and down, as we did not see the start or the finish.  But we did see it on TV lol  I just did not not want to deal with the rush of the crowds.  I know, my bad.

 

I got to say, I was quite impressed by the power I heard, when the cars raced by.  It was incredible.  I had more fun walking around the track then sitting in the bleachers.  Even though, we did have pretty good seats.

 

Well, I do not remember the name of the race, but I would go back for another.  Pretty sure, I won't be invited, though. lol

Florida then), then the '94, 95, and 96 Michigan 500 (was living in Ann Arbor then).  Since '08 I've been going to the spring and fall races here in Phoenix, and occasionally the Fontana race.   I've been a NASCAR fan off and on since childhood in the late 70s, but I also enjoy open wheel racing (Indy Car and F1). 

 

That first one was quite memorable for me...the deafening sound, smell of rubber and gas..the huge crowds, brightly colored cars, etc...was quite an experiences for the senses...been hooked on racing since then.

I have been to several dirt track races!

Yeah!  That roaring sound of the engine, the smell or rubber and gas,the excitement of the crowd, this is what resonated with me most about this experience!

 

Cool, you have been to so many races!  I can see how you could get hooked!

Oh, you have got to go to at least one race!  It is so different from seeing it on TV or going to an empty track.  Sure, dirt tracks are a thrill, too, but NASCAR is like hanging our with the big boys.

 

By the way, forgot to mention the how fast they change those tires, blew my mind seeing it so up close and personal!

I enjoy open wheel racing also, esp. the Indy Car Series..been to the Indy 500 a few times and the 3 California races (Long Beach, Sonoma, and Fontana) in recent years...going to the Long Beach Grand Prix next weekend..

I'm a 'car guy', not a 'driver guy', so for me, NASCAR was interesting when it was manufacturer's competing. Unfortunately, this was before my time, so I've never been.

Talking about the roar of engines tho; I have been to a Summernationals top fuel event- that's insane. Imagine 8 NASCAR engines strapped together on a pallet & running WOT.

He's a happy hoarder, has 4 cars for sale this year: 3 Pontiacs (62, 66, 67) & a Chevy (77) along with a few metric tons of junk.

 

Will bike around the swap meet tomm, I'm sure -as usual- there will be nothing for my B-59 or '40, but that's OK. I'm there for the atmosphere.

Well, if your going to a hoarder, what better then some Pontiac's, a Chevy, and a few metric tons of junk!  My father-law-law was big into collecting and reselling "junk", as some might call it.  lol  But, he made a good living in his later years doing this.  Hope your buddy sells it all.  Nothing like coming back with an empty trailer!

 

Never know, you might find something!

Back from the meet. Biked 80% of it, there's seldom much for me personally.

Bought (3) $1 U.S. military blem khaki t-shirts and a nice '60's Starfire emblem for $5.

 

Cort- the Chevy my buddy has is a '77 Malibu coupe, clean original car with an inline 6.

 

He could never sell all he has- he took up 6 spots, which is 12 parking spaces; his truck, the 4 cars, 3 trailers of parts, another trailer with the remains of a '68 Impala coupe (no nose) and an 80 LeMans wagon. He will haul 90% of it home, only to do it all in the fall. He holds too close on his asking price; I would blow it all out. Hoarders...

 

Did see a '76 Cadillac Caribou pick-up, decent-looking but had a bunch of under-paint rust. Was asking $13500.

 

EDIT :: Hmmm, 10 min google search is not showing my emblem up anywhere. Going to see if DD recognizes it in the next trivia installment

Bicycle. Supposedly no motored conveyance allowed, at least motorcycles. Too crowded for them, anyway.
