Although both Ram and Toyota have shown they are ready and willing to give Ford's SVT Raptor supertruck a challenge, one notable truck maker still declines to join the fight: General Motors. That, however, could be set to change soon.

GM registered the "Z71 Trail Boss" trademark with the US Trademark and Patent Office on January 14, 2015. The trademark filing states the name is to be used on passenger vehicles, specifically light duty pickups.

The new trademark – the "Trail Boss" portion of the name especially – suggests that there could be new, souped-up versions of GM's Z71 spec Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups in the pipeline.

How GM could upgrade its Z71 Siverado and Sierra trucks remains to be seen, but we can speculate. It's possible, for example, a Silverado Z71 Trail Boss truck could be a simple appearance package for Z71 trucks akin to the current All Terrain models of the GMC Sierra and GMC Canyon, but it is also possible it could be a direct answer to Ford's Raptor with the hardware and off-road chops to match. Here's to hoping.

What do you think? Take a peek at the filing below and tell us.

Could this be using some of the bad ass gear from hummer on a very beefed up truck?

Would love to have them bring to market either under Chevy or GMC the Hummer HX Concept also.

Wonder if GM finally realized they could sell a Truck like the Reaper.

2015 Chevrolet Reaper.

I think I threw up a little.

Weird part is that this is the 2nd year for the Reaper according to the Lingefelter web site. I believe they have proven that people want a supercharged off road monster from GM compared to Ford.

Proven....how? How many people bought that?

Point well made but I have to figure why build it if they lost money.

Checking out other news stories, it seems to hit a vibe with people. Very much a love it or hate it look. People like the two supercharged V8 engine choices and others.

I'll take a guess and say high teens to low hundreds.

Burlington Chevrolet, in Burlington City, Burlington County, NJ, is a Southern Comfort dealer and also has one white '14 Reaper in stock.  He's had the Reap since late summer.  He'll sell the Black Widow and other Southern Comfort trucks, but the Reaper was still there last weekend when I stopped by.

Reaper: MSRP $85k :-O

Oh and yeah, that Reaper is one hideous looking aftermarket truck!

With $14k off sticker... must be desperate.

edit: Lord, those Southern Comfort ones are fugly too!  Is this the truck version of pimp headlights, shag carpet, "classic" grille, and wide whites on a '76 Eldorado??!

I'll also wager they all had one of the following names: Billy Ray, Billy Bob, Clarence, Jeffery and Guy.

...As in "Guy Fieri."
