I was wondering, what does Porsche get out of being a part of the VW group? Do they use any of VW's technology? Wouldn't they be better of as an independent car manufacturer specialized in produced super cars? Are they profitable?

They are very profitable. Porsche uses some Volkswagen tech but not a lot.  The times they do use VW tech, it is in the more general consumer cars than the sports cars.  Cayman, Cayanne, Panamera, for example

I think that beign a part of the group has many benefits. I think that it creates a huge pool of income for all the parties involved and so that helps to create a better product. A much stronger marketing campaign and that leads to a bigger slice of the cake for the VW Group. To me it makes a lot of business sense.
