DETROIT (Reuters) -- General Motors' global sales rose 2 percent in the third quarter, driven by strong demand in the two largest auto markets in the world, China and the United States.

GM, in a statement today, said it sold 2,449,595 cars and trucks, up from 2,396,864 in the same period last year. That marked GM's best third-quarter sales since 1980.

Through the first nine months, GM sold 7,371,743 vehicles, up 2 percent from 7,250,764 last year.

GM's Chevrolet brand saw sales decline 4.7 percent in the third quarter, while its Buick, Cadillac and Opel brands saw demand rise 7 percent, 4 percent and 1.4 percent, respectively

Without delving into the usual 'qualifiers' RE Cadillac's "4% rise"…. wondering if the knee-jerk reactionaries ANYWHERE are recanting their dire predictions of Cadillac's "slide = demise".

Awesome news considering this insane year of GM pandering to the weak and fallible ninnies and their wicked lawyers simply out to make a buck. 7.3Million and out and out the best line-up on the market. Amazing even more that despite all the negativity in America over Cadillac sales falling 3%, it is on the rise in other markets. Maybe the media else where are intelligent enuff to recognize that a maker with 6 vehicles can't outsell ones with 12 -16. Unless of course we are talking about the current Luxury Golden Boy Audi, who is beating Caddy sales by a whopping 3100 sales YTD in America with 12 vehicle on sale vs Cadillac with 1/2 their line-up

LOL as I just watched a Motor Trend Comparo between the 6 year old Camaro SS and the brand new Mustang GT. Spoiler.. the heavier, larger Camaro is also the faster and more nimbler
