Can't get heated seats without the All Terrain Package - stupid. Unless packages change later in the year, looks like it will be a Colorado for me.

 

That is true unless you order the SLT trim (leather).

They should have gone with a Mini Pickup and not a Mid Size Pickup. Could have done better. Should have done better.

 

I would like the Marketing Idiots to show me that customers are wanting mid size pickups priced the same as Full Size Pickups and that there is no demand for Mini Pickups.

Agreed on the mini pickup, the Canyon/Colorado should have been in the $20-32k range, since the Silverado/Sierra start around $26k.  In fact if you go to the GMC website it shows the Canyon with a base price of $26,725 and the Sierra with a price of $26,075.  Doesn't make sense.

That is for a Canyon Crew Cab longbed, the largest configuration available, and the first out.  The extended cab base price is like $21k.  The Sierra price is for a regular cab, and we all know they go north from there.

I saw one of these Sunday and I honestly thought it was a Sierra.  It wasn't until I could see the badge that I realized it was a Canyon.  To me, that isn't so much a problem of styling being too similar since they both look nice.  It is very much a problem of the sizes being too similar.  You would have never mistaken an S10 for a Silverado even if they were styled exactly the same.  Once I realized it was a Canyon, my next thought was "Wow, that is really big."  The funny thing is I saw them at the auto show and don't remember thinking that.  It sure looked huge in the wild, though.  Too big for me.  That would take it off my shopping list.  Too bad because I've had two S10's and two Rangers so I obviously like the little trucks.  Never owned a full size and never plan to.

Yes, the crewcab longbeds are coming out first, and they look huge.  The extended cab should appear more reasonably sized.  Still wish a regular cab were available, I feel it makes good sense, when this will be pitched to business fleets as a base model.

GMC to me is the better looking of the twin trucks, but I still think GM missed the gold mine by not building these new trucks as Mini Pickups with a starting price of 16 to 18K for a Standard cab model and topping out around 32K.

The Ford Transit and Transit Connect would have been a good blueprint to copy.  There is a noticeable size and price difference between the two, they don't overlap and don't fight for the same customer, and they cover from small and cheap to large and expensive.  GM should have done that with the pickups.

I agree with you here that it is a good blue print for GM to have used. Hopefully Ford will think this better and bring back the Ranger to compliment the F series pickups.

Apparently on other forums there are pictures of car carriers with Canyons & Colorados on their way to the dealerships right now.  A poster that supposedly works for GM stated that yesterday the order was given to greenlight the shipping to commerce (send to dealers).  My GMC dealership is awaiting two Crew Cab SLT long bed models; I'll be called as soon as they are on lot ready for a test drive.

 

I still think you'll get behind the wheel of one before me, Drew  :explode:

It might even be tomorrow.... I don't know if they will be at the event I'm at tomorrow... but I'm 99% sure 100% sure* they will be at the event on Sept 30.

Since I qualify for GM Supplier Pricing, I've built a 2015 Chevy Colorado LT Crew Cab Long Bed 4WD (Canyon is not available to build yet) and a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT Crew Cab Standard Bed 4WD (2015 1500 FS trucks are not available to build yet).

 

Colorado:

There is a big difference = $7,312 to be exact - in the price between the two trucks (Sierra $45,511 WITH rebates and Colorado $38,199 WITHOUT any rebates).  

 

Plus there is the size and capabilities difference and the fuel savings between the two truck sizes.   Not everyone needs a full size pickup but may want a pickup truck that suites their needs.

There are better rebates available on the Sierra depending on your configuration though. 


I"m trying to decide if I'm going to attempt to do video on the truck or not.  It is a time thing since I won't have any assistant with me.

I know there are some additional incentives out there, but not everyone will qualify for all of the incentives, or you have to give up the rebate for the low finance rate.  I'm showing two examples of trucks I would have the dealer order, as there's no way a truck is out there sitting on a lot the way I want it (trust me, I look a lot!).  If I'm going to pay that much, I want exactly what I want without compromise.

 

Looking forward to your review of the 'first drive' of the new GM mid-size trucks.  Do you get to drive both or just one (GMC or Chevy)?

2015 Silverado 1500 Build&Price has been active this week at Chevy's site.  The LT looks so much better with just the body color mirror caps and door handles, it's amazing how those seemingly minor details make a nice difference.

 

And MSRPs have risen by a noticeable amount on the '15 fullsize half tons, once again.

Similarly loaded BMW 335i and 535i cost, $58,675 and $66,675, respectively. Lesser delta with the same engine. At least GM trucks boast different engines.

 

Personally, with rebates going on the Silverado I do not like those two vehicles so close in price range, GM may kill its own bird while strategizing to kill the Alum F-150.

Apparently, dealers have ordered a combined total of 42k of these trucks so far, many times GM's forecast.  A third shift at the plant is scheduled to begin after the first of the year to keep up with the unexpected demand.

BUT BUT BUT,

 

If GM had really looked at the market, they should have built a Mini Pickup instead that started in the teens and ended in the low to mid 30's for a Mini Pickup Crew Cab Fully loaded. This would have given a nice family line of trucks for people to buy. Instead they almost just extended the full size truck line with these.

 

I really think Marketing and GM Mgmt missed the boat big time.

 

If Ford ignores the stupid mid size truck market, brings back the Ranger Mini Pickup in Regular, King and Crew cab configurations starting off around 15-18K and topping out at 32-35K they will have a much better spread to address customer needs and especially those living in cities where a mid size or full size is way too big to own and park.
