Equus Bass 770, is it worth $250,000?

The question is asked, since Equus Automotive is showing off 3 of their new 21st Century Muscle cars at the Detroit Autoshow this week.

The muscle car features GM's LS9 6.2L Supercharged 640HP V8 as the motor of motivation. The Bass770 comes in 480lbs lighter than the Camero ZL1 at 3640lbs curb weight. Tranmission of choice is a dual clutch 6 speed manual sending power to the rear wheels while using GM's Magnetic Ride Suspension system and Brembo Carbon Ceramic Rotors and pads. Boasting a top speed of 200mph and a 0 - 60 time of 3.4 seconds. This pushes this as the ultamite American Muscle car to take on all super cars.

The interior is a retro style wrapped in soft leather yet using 21st century electronics.

Their web site has what all Car nuts love, a configurator so you can build your own Bass770.

Performance sounds excellent, has a nice heritage look, but it's visually 90% a Mustang. For coin of that level, I expect something unique. Just buy a Shelby.

I'm not one to brandy around the term 'deal breaker', but those speedo numbers look extremely poorly done.

I wonder if there is anything there 'there' if this is just another smoke and mirrors con job like Carbon Motors was. It doesn't make sense to have '67-68 Mustang styling and a Chevy engine. And the name 'BASS' is pretty weak...

I think the price is nuts, that its way too much Mustang and its names suck.

However, I want to know all the legal info on how they passed the Fed regs. They claim to have three built. 200 in the pipeline... so I have to assume that none have been crash tested.

Another home made project like the Fisker, only this one has a desirable powertrain.

Do not forget the suspension, GM's Magnetic Ride Suspension.

I just wish they had done a modern take on the body style and interior rather than a retro look with a large touch screen. Just looks wack on the design. Clearly the people at this company are really hooked on the Mustang Fast back look of the late 60's.

Hard to tell..they could be starting with Dynacorn '67 Mustang shells, then modifying them heavily. That is, if they actually have a running prototype..most of the pics posted above could all just be photoshopped images..

Don't get me wrong, I've always liked the idea of a truly retro design being underpinned by modern hardware. However, its about $200,000 too much.

It looks a lot like a Mustang (when I first saw pictures I thought this was a modified Mustang). There's nothing wrong with that I guess, but why not model it after a car every other custom coach builder/modder hasn't already modeled after? Why not a Catalina? Or a Satellite Sebring? Or a Galaxy 500?

Also, while the interior is far from the worst kit car interior I've seen, the build quality isn't great and it still has the look of a kit car.
