When Subaru showed off the WRX Concept at the New York Auto Show in April, it was very much well received not only by the press, but by everyone. It could be a good omen for Subaru as they have announced the production version of WRX will debut at the LA Auto Show next week.

The company released a teaser shot which gives some idea of what the production model will look like. From what we can tell, the overall shape of the production model has been toned down a bit. But there are key items from the concept that remain such as a large grille opening and the hood scoop.

We're expecting the WRX recipe to stay the same for this new model. That means a turbocharged four-cylinder, manual transmission, and all-wheel drive.

We'll have more information on the WRX when it debuts next week.

Stupid question: will this be an offshoot of the Impreza line or a stand alone model? I liked the teaser shot, btw...

It's the performance version of the Impreza

Thanks!

I know that historically it's been an Impreza model, but I got the impression Subaru was leaning towards marketing it almost as a stand alone model... I'd see a de-linking of the WRX from the Impreza as not-so-clever...

I guess I haven't kept up w/ Subarus..I didn't realize the current WRX is still based on the previous generation Impreza whilst the regular Impreza was redesigned a couple model years ago. I just don't see them very often, not as popular in AZ as they are in CO I think...

Well, this new WRX is clearly based on the current Impreza. And word is there will not be a hatchback WRX... only a sedan... which I think might turn off a number of WRX fans.

Hatchbacks are not very popular here in Green Seattle. Subaru is big here but the hatch not so much. See plenty of WRX and STI's all over especially going up the mountain to ski or mountain bike.
