Penske going to GM? Thats the word at the track

Just caught Wind Tunnel tonight. Robin Millers [indianapolis Star] was on with his scoop that the word going around the pit areas in IRL and NASCAR have Roger possibly going to lead GM.

Miller said he is following up on this and will report more later. He said he needed to shake out more info on it this week from team members in both series.

I know this one comes up every few months and there is most likley nothing here as usaual, but it is the first time I have heard that race teams are passing the word around on this topic.

Hmmm can you imagine a GM leader racing Dodge's, Porsche and Honda. GM could give him some token C6R's as a signing bonus.

penske races dodges in nascar....so if this is accuarate, perhaps its the dodges that are bowing out of nascar.

Dont see it happening. Penske is too much of a risk IMHO. He has sported so many different manus in so many series its kinda akward. I would see him as somone who might just be careless enough to accidentally slip something out to somone by accident at another company.

He races Hondas in the IRL, Dodges in NASCAR, and I think races a Lexus or Porsche in one of the sport car series. I can't remember which one though.

That, and he hasnt had anything to do with a GM backed product since 94 when switched from Grand Prixs to Ford Thunderbirds in Cup. Claiming that GM didnt give enough support to the Pontiac effort and to him particularly. And if I remember back then, he seemed particularly sore at GM and having a general disdain for GM after that.

Besides that, the only other thing I can think of is when he had a Aurora/Chevy engine in his IRL cars for that one season. However everyone did because it was such a better platform than the Infiniti one. However when Honda and Toyota came knocking on the IRL's door, he jumped instantly.

Most Penske rental trucks are GM . Roger Penske owns lots of GM stores . Roger Penske made his racing name with Mark Donohue and Championship Chevrolets . Rusty Wallace never did as well in Fords and Dodges as he did in his Pontiac . Unlike Earnhardt , who went out with a bang , Rusty went out with a fizzle . I don't think Penske is going to do anything top level at GM , Maybe take Pete Gerosa's job .

Rusty went out of Nascar in one his best seasons in years....sure he fizzled after he won the campionship, but he definately did better in his last couple years. It wouldn't suprise me if Penske did get outa the dodge camp in Nascar. The Charger noses blow for downforce. Most of the guys have been running the old intrepid noses from 04 in order to compete at most tracks.
