Chevrolet News:Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon To Arrive In Late 2014?

General Motors has been hard at work on the North American versions of the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon and we know the trucks will be arriving sometime after the new Silverado and Sierra. Now it seems we have a possible timeframe of when these mid-size bruisers will be arriving.

The Detroit Free Press recently talked with GM's President of North America, Mark Reuss. Reuss revealed that introduction of the Colorado and Canyon would be timed with the introduction of the next-gen Ford F-150, which is expected to come out around late 2014 or early 2015.

“We are going to have a midsize truck that we launch right down the alley. When they bring out their F-150, we are going to have something no-one else has,” Reuss said.

That something will be a pickup that will be slightly larger than a current Toyota Tacoma and be aimed those who want a pickup to haul things around, but want better fuel economy.

“There is a buyer out there that doesn’t need everything that a full size truck does. We are going at it with Chevrolet on a lifestyle basis that will be quite different than a Silverado and we are going to go at it with GMC with professional grade capability in a little bit smaller truck with all of the fuel efficiency and fuel economy,” said Reuss.

I'm very curious what the engines/transmissions will be on these. I'm guessing for NA we will see the new 2.5 Ecotec and the 3.6 V6 tied to a 6 speed stick or 6 speed auto.

I am curious as to how GM will price the new Colorado/Canyon. The last generation was priced much too close to the Silverado/Sierra. A $5000-7000 distance between the midsize and fullsize trucks should help immensely.

Well that screws my timeframe... Lease is out on the Terrain March 2014 and wanted to replace with a Canyon.

Speculation, but I think they better have best in class the following 3 engines at least.

Turbo 4 banger

DI V6

Duramax Diesel 2.9L

All should have at least a 6 speed tranny if not an 8 speed.

I'd like to see 2.5 DI 4 base, 2.9 Duramax and 4.3 DI V6, with 6 speed manuals and 8 speed autos available across all engines and configurations.

If it is bigger than the Tacoma, then it is going to be too heavy to get decent fuel economy, and probably too close in size and prize to the Silverado, which was the same problem last time around. And the Ram gets 25 mpg, I don't see why Chevy can't get 25 mpg from the Silverado. Put a diesel in there with an 8-speed and it should get 26 mpg easily, cut the weight and it could be 27-28. So I hope they are aiming for 30 mpg on the Canyon, otherwise what is the point.

@Avant1963 you should talk to your sales person about your problem, sometimes they will extend your lease til your new truck comes in. I think all you pay is your same monthly pmt.

Hello. I still don't need my hemi to move the occasional crab pot or get up the mountain to ski. BUT, I am an old fat fart that has rolled on the Rubicon and still wants a real 4x4 that fits me and gets decent mileage without direct injection.
