Just wait until you open up both barrels of the carb perched atop the low compression 318 that comes standard in that Road Runner!

Hang on to your hats, boys & girls!

I have to tell ya somethin' though. I used to ride to school with a step cousin before I got my license and he had a '74 Cuda with 318. His car was one of the baddest on that lot, he could lay waste to a brand new '78 Trans Am, among many others.

Yeah, a Cuda with a 318 could still be quick. The tubbier Road Runner needed a bit more oomph though. College chum of mine bought a 73 Charger with a 318 and it always felt like he was hauling around a load of gravel in his trunk to me. Keep in mind I'm a fan of the 318... :)

He traded it for a new '79 Cougar XR7 with a 302, light green/dark green top and interior. I remember at least one of the lower quarters on the Plymouth, rearward of the wheel, was starting to give way at the lower edge with rust. At that point, the car was only 5 years old!

The tinworm had a field day with cars from the 1970s. On a quiet night, you could actually hear my '74 Gremlin X rusting away.

Had a '66 Belvedere with the old school 318 poly motor. It was actually a rockin machine.

Also had a 73 W200 Power Wagon. It had the 318 small block. It wasn't very rockin, but damned durable.

My buddy had a 318 150 Hp V8 in his 1975 Dart. It was reasonably quick but it was the bulletproof nature of the engine that always amazed me. He ran it out of oil, overheated it to the point it stalled out, beat the tar out of it and still that damn thing ran as smooth and quiet as could be and fired up every day. I couldn't say that about various Ford 351's, Pontiac 301's or Chevy 305's from the 70's.
