As part 1 of my vacation this week, I was in N. California for 4 days driving a rental '12 Cadillac CTS 3.0. I thoroughly enjoyed it in a variety of driving situations--Bay Area freeway traffic, beautiful winding Sonoma and Napa county country roads, driving around town in Sonoma and Napa, etc.

My only previous CTS driving experience was a couple short local trips in a black 3.6 a couple of months ago.

All in all, it drove quite nicely...this appeared to be a base model w/ small wheels and standard suspension, but the road feel, steering, etc was excellent. Not too many nit-picks to point out..I couldn't find an aux input jack, and the cup holders seem to be too close together to fit 2 Starbucks venti lattes effectively.

The main event of the weekend was going to the Sonoma Indy Car Go Pro Grand Prix at Sonoma (formerly Infineon) Raceway. Cadillac and Cadillac Racing were sponsors of the event, and had many cars on hand...saw a row of about a 1/2 dozen ATSes at the hospitality tent.

At the track, they had a display set up w/ a red ATS, 3 metallic black CTS-Vs (one of each bodystyle), and a CTS race car...I sat in the ATS--quite nice...initial impressions--I really like the design and detailing of the exterior and interior. Trunk opening looks small, but the trunk seems spacious inside.

They also had plenty of merch, I picked up a nice black Cadillac Racing polo shirt.

The rest of the time was very relaxing, doing some wine and cheese tastings at wineries and enjoying dinner in a few of Sonoma and Napa's excellent restaurants.

Part 2 of my vacation is a few days in Ohio for Labor Day weekend..will probably have a Malibu or Impala rental..

How does that CTS 3.0 compare to the CTS 3.6?

Can't really say, probably a bit slower in acceleration....the 3.6 I drove a couple months ago I never got above 40 (was a dealer loaner, made a couple short trips around town), but the 3.0 seemed quite adequate in freeway driving..
