What if GM took all those great, efficiency-enhancing insights they learned while developing the Volt and applied them to a conventional gasoline-powered sedan? Actually, that's just about what the Cruze Eco is. It's no secret the two cars share platforms, but nothing trains the mind on efficiency quite like creating a car that depends on a battery (at least sometimes), and many of the Volt's teensy and seemingly improbable efficiencies have reappeared on its much better-selling gasoline-only alter ego.

Looks like GM is finally getting some good press for their excellent work!

Seeing reviews like this are really tonic for the long suffering GM fan... The Cruze is a great car and deserves to be recognized as such.

The Cruze is second in the comparo to the Mazda3. Could anyone have seen this in the Cavalier or Cobalt era? GM has finally learned to build a small car import buyers might actually pay with their own money. I did not think that this could happen, especially given GM vs. small car history.

My very short (3 months!) ownership of a 2012 Cruze 1LT 1.4T 6 speed manual was in no way reflective of the car itself. If someone came to me and asked which compact sedan to buy depending on their budget, I'd say Cruze or Verano in a heartbeat of America.

Impressive comparo, but I disagree with their end result. I would have had the Cruze first, then TDI and Mazda 3rd based on their own testing methods.

If nothing else...based on styling alone...the Cruze beats the Mazda three by a landslide.

It's got some of the nimbleness of the Mazda 3, some of the sleekness I like in the Jetta, the build Quality and attention to detail of the Ford...and none of the cheap feeling the Hyundai in the test has, IMHO.
